I'm a 57 year old man, worked in the trades for almost 3 decades, and I've gotta say, I am totally jealous of what these kids have here. They got THE coolest playground ever. I wish I had a playground like that. Man, I'd spend the rest of my life building all sorts of crazy things.
That's just awesome!

I am 56 and i am a backyard miner with no gym. Lets go for them drift tunnel dreams. You aint old till you hit 90 or something.
Squirrel Town don't let cost stop you. Go around to job sites in your area. Ask them for any excess materials they they are just gonna throw away. Show them your videos. They May even setting stuff aside for you. Take your parents but you do all the talking.
Ask for the superintendent. Don't just walk on the sight. Have your parents make initial contact. Since children are not allowed on job sites.
Many times it actually helps them out by not having to haul off excess materials.
Be nice but confident. Don't start pushing or begging.
If you get a good reputation and relationship with them, they might even call you when they get other job sites. Hell in time they might even hire you to do it for them. Or even give you a job.
You could even ask for scrap metals and get money from recycling.
Keep up the good work.

Seriously? Worst piece of trench digging I have seen, the walls will probably collapse on someone, so very stupid!
@@PaulStrickland you sound stupid
I've actually had the same thought, the walls look kinda weak, if the tunnel collapses it may trap someone, I actually saw that happen to a crew hand digging the foundation of a house for external waterproofing, it turned out rather ugly...

My question is y’all using untreated wood, how long will it last? 😂
You're actually supposed to make the frames with the big pieces going over the small ones. That way, weight doesn't simply split the wood and push it past the nails.

just the music gets me fired up!!!!!!! we must band together and not go quietly in the night.
Agreed, and I like the music too... but why did they make it out of WOOD? It will rot in a few years. All that work.
Good times! That was how we played Minecraft when we were kids in the 50 & 60's!
All good fun until it collapses and you're pinned down by the wood with 10 tons of sand pushing down on you.
True story, but humans never listen to wisdom.
10 tons is 10000 pounds? it would probably be like 200+ pounds
Why would it collapse
Rob H you must be a sissy liberal
As a kid my friends and I made underground clubhouses almost the same way they do here. As time went on and we learned of flooding we started putting a thin concrete floor in with a drain as they were usually on a hill or side of a ridge it made it easier to drain also we used thick plastic around the sides and tin on the roof before putting dirt back over all of it. Used a hatch or trap door for entry and one even had a fireplace made from an old metal trash can. Good Times! Kids today are more into couches, video games and tater chips lol
+ninney 79 WOW those structures sound like they were amazing!
trust, me.
if i had the backyard i'll do it
for now i can just create things digitally as i have no budget for real stuff
damn, I really want to do that with my mates but where did you get the funding? I guess concrete and plastic sheet was cheep a while ago.
if I lived out in the country I would. Growing up only two of my friends were lucky enough to live in the country, me and everyone else lived in towns where we weren't even allowed to dig holes deeper than 2 or 3 feet if that

Amazed it didnt start with....."Hold my beer and watch this."..........................................its a death trap...waiting to happen....
1234568890
it has inches of dirt above and well fortified walls decay will take 5-10 years before it starts caving in thats gunna happen slowly not some sudden collapse.....
It's my dream to have that in my yard to have a trench so I can defend myself when they come
that's pretty kickass, reminds me of the days of building forts and towers in trees. Never let the kid inside you go, always have fun and be creative. makes me want to build something now that I have a bobcat and other machines to do it.
I can't believe there are young men this age that are willing to do this kind of work, I'm impressed.
Thank You! We are all future engineers and love this kind of stuff!
We used to dig underground forts when we were kids. In AZ it gets hot so we could hang out 6-8 feet underground during summer and stay cool. You guys make good progress with lots of people. Good job!
Well well well. There's actually hope for the next generation after all. Great job guys!
Safety Warning: I think what you guys are doing is superb and incredibly impressive.
But please note that one cubic metre of water = one metric tonne weight. If a section of earth becomes saturated during rain fall and suddenly decides to shift, thats a fucktonne of weight bearing down on your wooden bracing. Your design and materials are solid and quality ... but there are a few areas where putting in a cross brace or two would REALLY provide mechanical support to the wooden structure. 2 inch thick wood either side of a tunnel is great ... but you need something to stop that bracing collapsing in on itself. Throw in a few more struts just for good measure.
Apologies for being the armchair expert, I think what you are doing is awesome, I just want to see you stay safe.
love this. you might have done some pre-project research by watching "The Great Escape" a couple of times for hints on proper tunnel construction tips.
Here after Colin furze vid
I'm a grown man sitting here like wtf, if I did 1/4 this work I'd have dirt all over me, how are they so clean!?
hopefully that wood won't rot or be eaten by termites...
Another idea would be to use the same water soluble all surface sealer mixed with 50% water or less on the sides & bottom of the tunnel before wood supports & walls are put in. They will water proof the sides & bottom of your tunnels for a few years. You could also soak the wood for a few minutes in that & dry them so they won't rot so easily & last longer.
I wondered what kids did when theyre werent any drugs around.. glad i found the drugs growing up...
When I was a younger man, I would do very similar things in my parents yard. That is very well done awesome work!
+Carl The Diesel Guy Nice! And thanks! The parents sometimes don’t like all the construction but they learn to get over it lol
Mine had a similar sentiment!
You lads would have made brilliant fox hole diggers.
It's dope to think these guys are outside doing something awesome instead of sitting in their room all the time
Im working on something very similar, except my tunnel will be about 100 feet long and the main room will be under my workshop
Good job kids...keep it up....a good job in construction or engineering pays well. True skills you can use in real life right here. Kids like yall are America's hope and future!
Yes! Dude I do this alone and how fun would it be for the boys all together like that sick! And literally the very apex of whole body workout in digging. It’s my meditation, just free to create with I love it. Awesome dad points for sure great job!
This was so cool. Great photograpy and music. If I ever need a squad of combat engineers to build a deliberate platoon defense with covered fighting positions and bunkers, I'm calling these kids.
Awesome guys I do hope you don't get a mold problem with the wood getting wet
Was pressure treated wood used? This was very cool I build one similar and dig mine at least 7 feet deep and turn it to a rootcellar/tornado/nuke shelter
imagine a scenario where you are suddenly caved in with earth on top of you, obviously a few inches of dirt would be easy to get out, but what about 1 meter of earth on you? what tool would be useful in that case? a pocket spade? lol
Don't do this. Two of my childhood friends suffocated and died in a collapsed tunnel they had built in their backyard.
Good effort. For cheap waterproofing, assuming dirt covers the top, you can invest in water soluble all surface sealer, the kind you can use on brick, wood & porous stuff. Buy a few gallons. Mix in 50% water. Spray on top of the dirt including a few feet from the sides. When it dries the dirt will harden and be water resistant for a few years. Your big problem though will be seepage in the tunnels.
Yea we’ve had a lot of seepage. We kind of been just hoping it isn’t flooded when we go out there. But yeah we should invest in something like that
These kids would have quit after 5 shovels at my house. Every shovel attempt hits big ole 6-8” river type rock with mid sized rocks in between. That looks like some seriously nice dirt to throw there. Pretty cool underground fort being constructed. Personally I would have went at least standing height. Their backs would have thanked them for it after a few hours in there lol.
My friend in elementary school died making tunnels like this, dont do it
Local missing girl found locked in underground tunnel cave
Lmfao that's what I was thinking...these boys just building a rape dungeon to kidnap the head cheerleader at their school. I mean fuck...who wouldn't if you had a badass bunker right? Gotta put it to use somehow...
This looks like a trench build. Now all you need are the machine gun emplacements and you’re good for a fun trench war game
That would be fun! We also do some paintball every year in Squirrel Town as well. We should have a video out on that soon too in case you’re interested!
This is wast of time it's better to make a tunnel of masonry instead of wood
Mom and dad need to go outside once in a while.
Timber frame directly contacting earth? What about rot??
Man, if you're doing all THIS at your age, just playin around, then SKY'S THE LIMIT.
Local veterans suffer a major PTSD episode and begin digging trenches in their backyard
this reminds me of trenches in ww1 and 2
I remember being about 3 or 4..trying to dig to China..fun times!!! This is a cool set up you made..how is it after a good rain?
Way to go! Awesome! Might want to consider a cheap cement floor for some things however. A bit of drainage, waterproofing. Rain, moisture, and such might mess up some of this work over time and turn this into something hazardous. Think WWI trench. Rot, water buildup, mosquitoes, etc. Looks like a lot of fun though. Memories you'll have to cherish when older. Thanks for sharing!
Hey thanks for the advice! Yeah we’ve thought about cement floors and we should probably do them. We’ll make a video on it if we do!

Major respect to all participants. And the parents deserve a shout of respect as well for letting these kids be creative and explore hard work, team work etc etc. Well done.
Thank you, and yes we are lucky that were allowed to build these awesome structures.
Nice! Great works Guys! :)

Thomas Buckley tunnel rat...?.
So this might be totally pointless and using wood will make it fall apart in two years.
But isn't this what freedom is all about, their opinion counts.
I figure it will leak like a sieve and fall apart pretty soon but that's only my opinion.
It's so easy to put people down.
But they are not doing drugs, playing with guns, getting into fights or drinking, all the really pointless pursuits. Even if the wood construction does fall apart they will learn something; all that digging will build up their muscles, make them healthier.
I am 100% behind the rights of young men to do stupid things because most men here can remember doing similar stupid things. Men have a long tradition of doing stupid things, we are very good at it.
Don't put these kids down! The whole point of it is to have some where to smoke 😜
And then they learn concrete formwork and marine ply. And it's a full fallout shelter with another 30 years life in it.
God I wish I could do this, especially in my youth. I envy yous!
Its almost like you're reconstructing a WW1 style trench. Awesome video!

Great team you got there. cool. Reminds me of when my brothers and I built or fort.
They should.. have use some plastick to cover the outside off the wall's
I was thinking the same. Or at least made a clay/sand mix to reinforce the sidewalls with. I'm thinking they were using recycled materials
Never have understood why people use shovels like that.. i mean without handle. I wouldnt dig anything without a proper shovel :D
Which idiots would dislike this this is beautiful good job guys. Im also doing something similar check it out in one of my vids. That trench room is awesome.
Now this is truly epic
I don't know if you all are in the prepper movement but a few tweaks & you guys could build a viable SHTF off-grid bug-out shelter. Try learning how to make bullet proof walls though. Cheapest idea I got is sand bags walls filled with 1/2 inch size gravel stones. Another is baked clay bricks if you have a viable source for clay. Much more labor intensive though.
They should make a call of duty map based on this. It would be great! And it looks like trenches! The tunnel would be the middle of the map. Other then that you guys did a amazing job!

Beautiful music. Good hole.
Actually in America anybody who lives in Tornado country, and doesn’t have a basement in their house, or lives in a mobile home or trailer, a project like shown here could be a life saver. In a Tornado you need to get below the ground. Something adequate to get you underground would take a full grown man maybe a month of weekends to construct.
If school doesn't pan out for you, I think you can definitely get a job with the Mexican cartel. They can use some of your workmanship at the border.
Y’all would love the Marine Corps.
So many mistakes made in the boarding I do not know where to begin! I only hope that no one is inside when the first boards collapse as they surely will as soon as there is any significant rain fall and the ground becomes water logged. The weight and the forces will not be held back by a few self tapping screws..there is no point in bracing the top boards, the ones under the least strain, if all of the lower retaining boards are not!..I only hope that it first floods and makes it totally inaccessible and therefore safe..its the only way it will be.
super dangerous, no statics, rather times a question has the idea and knows how to build something like that. check out Andrew Camarata on UA-cam. he knows how to do it. !!!!!!!

I don't think this will age very well when exposed to rain and ground water. It's going to need maintenance or it will collapse

Doing shit like this, it’s gonna land you guys in the Arm Services. “Happen to me”. Lol
Probably should have put some vapor barrier between the wood and dirt so it could last longer, maybe some drain spouts to catch the excess water to stop it from coming in when it rains.
This is awesome. My friend and I made a fort on my channel out of scrap wood from dumpsters but it got destroyed. our next project will probably be underground like this so its more hidden. Great video!
