- The remnants of Beryl brought severe and destructive weather to parts of the Midwest and Northeast, as 130 million people were under heat alerts around the country. More than 1 million remained without power in the Houston area after Beryl brought down power lines in the region. NBC News' Kathy Park reports.

Don’t blame the power company when Greg Abbott is to blame.
This is a tragedy in the making. The temperature is in the upper 90s and with the humidity heat index is already over 100 degrees. In a few days it will be 106 degrees!
The only thing companies understand is money. They need to give every one a massive credit on their bill. Maybe no bill this month.

I recently left Florida after 27 years to move back to Massachusetts. Hurricanes, and their potential aftermath, was high up on my list of reasons why.
Man, im praying for texas. California has been in the 100s for a week...i could only imagine how hard that is without power. Sending hugs and pryaers

As much as I'd love to claim "corporate greed" on the utility, perhaps local governments and developers have some blame in approving and building huge sub-divisions in areas that might be considered borderline swamp?
