i have named 1-26 cells a through z; names that i use in summing the numeric value of a group of letters or a word.
but i want an independent cell to automatically aggregate the letters of a word, interpolating a "+" in order to arrive at a total numeral for that particular collection of letters.
I do not want to type "+" between each letter as I enter the group of letters to be summed.
can you describe the formula ?

I don't have a clue what I am doing wrong with these seemingly "simple" steps, but when I perform the steps and click "enter", it does not provide a numerical total. Instead it an answer of: =B4+C4 Why does it do this??? Frustrating.
