Is it weird how my brain finished the riff you played at 4:22 by itself lol? Like it just filled in the other half before you even touched the guitar again. It was.. predictible. is predictability good for metal..?
When you add chord C and A into the riff for variation did you just happened to choose C and A randomly or is there a reason behind it? Thank you very nice video.
i will agree and note that any chance you get to record do it ... everyones been shmitfaced at somepoint and been like " dude let me show you this riff" then forgotten it ... record that sheeeet if its on the phone or through interface get er done
Brother greetings....can u do a breakdown on Slayers riffs or ideas behind them...may not b your favourite band but plz decode a few things like their typical dissonant song structure...keys etc...thanx in advance.. stay metal...stay safe
Your an excellent musician and you have a lot of cool tools. I usually just do all this shit in my head. I like to write rhythms with sus chords. I also use that harmonic minor or the metallica scale.
Thanks! That's great, I also usually just go with what I have in my head, but tried to break it down in order to teach whoever is not familiar with this kind of process (:
That sounds awesome, I'm gonna learn that. Question. The song was in E harmonic minor but when you moved to C, what it then C harmonic minor or were you still I using the E harmonic minor notes? Are they the same even?
Your videos are great but when you show the riffs you play the angle your at is so confusing. maybe a close up straight on view would make it easier to see what your doing..
Hey. I really enjoyed watching the vid. I think I can say I learned quite a few things about composing. But damn, i can't understand what you're talking about when you say sharp 4 when you're on 7th fret... Not native english-speaker, sorry
He's in E Harmonic Minor Scale(E,F#,G,A,B,C,D#). As you can see the 4th note is A. He is just saying to make it an A# instead. Then you get this scale: E,F#,G,A#,B,C,D# which is "E Harmonic Minor #4"(it has other names too like E Hungarian Minor, E Algerian Scale, etc.) Ritchie Blackmore has used this scale, it's a really cool scale.
Sharp 4 means you raise the fourth note of whatever scale you’re using by a half step. Flat 4 would mean you go down a half step instead. So basically move up a fret from where it would normally be.
Realy? first u choose key than meter and subdivision? so u chose 7/4 etc,…etc,……than root of the note,...right? Sorry but hell NO! Kids, that is how u write music if u are IA or a mathematician and wanna try to compose on a guitar. And ending up sounding like a robot . Generic and stiff. Guitar is not a symphonic orchestra. In my 35 years of playing guitar in a band i never heard anybody do it your way. Man just jam, preferably with others and songs will come, as well as riffs heavy as thall! Than u can figure out key, tempo and subdivisions if you want. Knowing music theory can't hurt u but it is not necessary for making amazing riffs and amazing music in general!! Forget about music theory and just play ( I repeat, best if u can play together with others) riffs will come!
Honestly, this is a really great lesson and I really like your creative process but I swear I can't help but cringe every time you say you want to do something because it's 'cool'.
What do you need a tab for? He's telling you exactly what he's playing. Harmonic minor, playing around the root and fifth, and occasionally the third. Pretty simple to get this riff by ear.

Your guitar body paintwork is awesome

Really good breakdown of the process, thanks!
Thank you! Glad you found it useful
I find it funny how you start out saying tune your guitar as low as you can and end up staying in E standard 😂 all the love though my man 🤘
2022 so far kicks ass thanks to your vid man.u kicked down my wall of repetitive noodling thanks bru
I learned so much from this video. Thanks for actually teaching and not just shredding your face off to flex how good you are. New sub!

I feel like I'm just on the verge of grasping this concept. Time to go pick the guitar up and put in some work.
Very nice riffs, thanks!

2ND ONE WAS AMAZİG
Is it weird how my brain finished the riff you played at 4:22 by itself lol? Like it just filled in the other half before you even touched the guitar again. It was.. predictible. is predictability good for metal..?
It isn't good or bad
It depends in the intention of the author
Well this riff is cookie cutter
For prog metal, I'd say predictability is about as good as a death sentence. Interpret that however you want.
When you add chord C and A into the riff for variation did you just happened to choose C and A randomly or is there a reason behind it? Thank you very nice video.
Never thought it was this easy
Easy to follow and comprehend, thanks dude!
you are very welcome!

Cool
It looks so easy when you do this! But you are real musician, not amateur like me 😉
Brother greetings....can u do a breakdown on Slayers riffs or ideas behind them...may not b your favourite band but plz decode a few things like their typical dissonant song structure...keys etc...thanx in advance.. stay metal...stay safe
so cool man !
Very good riff but quite difficult with my pinky.
This a great lesson! I appreciate it.
Thank you Brian! Glad you enjoyed it

Same ask
Tabs? I'm a beginner and want to play it?
Where can I find the tabs to this riff?
What kind of guitar strap are you rockin?
lol
It's from his gym bag.
A cool strap
@@arunbissoon4630 LMAO
Can realease Tab? I'm noob haha
I love the sound...but I'm just now starting to play can you teach me???
So like.. palm mute The lowest note on the guitar
Throw in the octave of that note on the a string which is the 7th fret
Add other notes
?
Profit
I can definitely teach you through our platrofm at Lessonface! www.lessonface.com/music-instructor/yoel-genin?ref=2f77a03b
are there any tabs available for this riff?
Your videos are great but when you show the riffs you play the angle your at is so confusing. maybe a close up straight on view would make it easier to see what your doing..
You say: skip a downbeat! Can you pls explain where you actually skipped it?
when he played the riff for second time
Sounds cool though.

all downpicks??
Always
@@carcar5084 lol
way too 'cool' for me :D
You clearly need to listen to mercyful fate and get taken to riff school
isnt it 7/8 tho
It's a hemiola
איך שומעים שאתה ישראלי אחי😂

Choosing a common time signature defeats the idea of "progressive" metal
well it's common to Prog Metal, and also, you gotta start somewhere (:

bad NO TAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole idea was to create your own...
