Originals are for the real collector, reissues are for the music fans, of which I'm both. I'm anal about having 80s metal originals and wont buy reissues, I'll settle for the CD until that time comes (however long...). Other than that I'm happy to buy resissues. Not a fan of remasters myself, like you say leave it as it is. The whole argument about having an "And Justice For All" remaster with bass would not sound right at all to me, I love the original, no need to change it.

I usually try to get as close to the original if I can get them for a good price and the disc is in good shape, unless there's an all analogue reissue cut straight from the master tapes. Analogue Productions stereo reissue of Beach Boy's Pet Sounds stomps all over the original

I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this video before. I believe the same things to try to get that original version to capture that “moment” in time

I've got tons of 1960''s and 1970''s originals. I was there when they came out. They are almost impossible to find them anymore. I rarely sell them, cause I'll never see them again.

Is there any vinyl collector who prefers reissues or remasteres to originals? I have not run across any on UA-cam. Everyone wants the originals as their first choice.

I’ve seen a lot of collectors that just want to amass a large collection and don’t really care about the pressing. And yes, some prefer new pressings so they don’t have to deal with grading when they buy something online.

I prefer the remasters unless it’s something sentimental.
I’ve never had a single bad issue save for my Nina Simone needed to be cleaned right after opening it for the first time...weird!? But whatever’s
      All mine sound GREAT
I honestly so far can’t say a single thing bad about reissues I’ve bought....
Whereas I could write a very big book about over priced, crackly vintage stuff that you sort hours through other crap to find...and STILL clean and STILL wind up with snap crackle pop. 🙄 bent corners,a name written, missing lyrics....ALWAYS something it seems, and if not
      Buddy they charge....
      oh BOY do they charge!
Half the people making a deal about it are usually just listening to loud noise anyway.....
not like actual music or something.

I go for a reissue if it's all analogue cut straight from the master tapes

Save your money and buy an original. New vinyl isn't cheap either and you'll regret buying a repress. The only exception to this rule would be a record that has bonus tracks or a remaster/mix that sounds totally different on purpose. Like the new Iron Maiden TNOTB Beast at hammersmith live. That's worth getting!

This was my exact thought. I just bought an original press of dark side of the moon for 40 bucks and has original papers inside as well.

I am so fu..... tired of warped or noisy new vinyl. All the masters of vinyl pressing from back in the day has retired. Sad! It’s true. Almost every release from Nuclear Blast is warped. I usually buy from Amazon as their return policy is great. A warped vinyl is a defective item, and I have never had an issue returning them.

    • @georgedoughly8682

Yes, it seems like these vinyl pressing plants these days have NO Quality Control whatsoever. There only concern is to pump this crap out as fast as possible. Most of the newer vinyl I buy has some kind of flaw to it: either warped (dish warped and edge warped), off center, and have spots of non fill (dimples) in the vinyl. It’s really frustrating.

You are right pal, we all can remaster records with any application....I like vinyl and better original pressings it's closer to studio recording and that's what I want to listen!!! cheers

Good observations in this video . I think Similar. The only format that i love to hear improved are the cassettes of nowadays. Sometimes they sound much better from what people think they do. But sticking to vinyls, i prefer the original pressing and if i buy the remastered version of it i think also depends of the mentality of the band and the producer who will determined the sound. For example if Rush, Pink Floyd or a another band of nowadays make a remastered the sound. The record might sound good maybe it doesn't. But the thing is that i haven't heard enough new pressings of remastered records. All i can say is that i have old records that i owned from other persons most of them original pressing and they sound really good in a solid state amp.

I got sick of vinyl because of bad pressings and sometimes bad editing of the tracks, with songs cut short.
I have never tried modern vinyl so far.
The modern vinyl argument also applies to modern CDs, where the old ones sounded more like vinyl, wheras now they add so much comprseeion on the sound it flatlines at the 0dB level, usually with clipping as well.

  • @sabbathbloodysabbath3351

Almost agree with all of your points, though there are some very good remasters out there. I collect CDs and sometimes there just isn't a good CD pressing (the most recent album by the Who is really compressed) though I do like the 1995 Live at Leeds remaster (even though it does use some compression, the remaster itself doesn't sound bad at all). Speaking of good remasters, I love the 2009 Japanese remaster of Gentle Giant - Octopus and the 2002 remaster of Terry Reid - River (released by Water Records). For Thin Lizzy I definitely prefer the original German CDs from the early 90s. It's all about the mastering. Though originals (if in great shape) are always great to have.

@@OldHead Yep, same here. Some of the ones I want are up there in the $80-$100 range, but I'm still willing to save up for those instead of settling for a ruined remaster. A good remaster, sure, but not a flattened one.

Great video. Why do you think there are less issues with older records? They were destroyed and not sold on. Trust me...there were tons of issues with Vinyl back in the 70s and 80s.

The Beatles In Mono records from 2015 are replicating the original pressings with old lamination and flaps and even weight of the record and the sound even better then the original mono presses! Somebody could easily mistake the 2015 records with the originals if anything
