Sometimes someone is just so unique, eventhough he was the epitome of "old school", there has never been anyone like him before or ever again. Weather you loved his music or did not, only a few people ever can say they were that original.
RIP Leon...you knew what you wanted to do at an early age and did it........genius.....as you grew older you became more authentic......the one and only Leon Redbone........
“It is with heavy hearts we announce that early this morning, May 30th, 2019, Leon Redbone crossed the delta for that beautiful shore at the age of 127,” it read. “He departed our world with his guitar, his trusty companion Rover, and a simple tip of his hat. He’s interested to see what Blind Blake, Emmett, and Jelly Roll have been up to in his absence, and has plans for a rousing sing along number with Sári Barabás. An eternity of pouring through texts in the Library of Ashurbanipal will be a welcome repose, perhaps followed by a shot or two of whiskey with Lee Morse, and some long overdue discussions with his favorite Uncle, Suppiluliuma I of the Hittites. To his fans, friends, and loving family who have already been missing him so in this realm he says, ‘Oh behave yourselves. Thank you…. and good evening everybody.'”
Ashamed to say that (at the age of 50) I only recently discovered Leon at The Kate in Old Saybrook, CT, last month. Thoroughly enjoyed and only wished that he played a little longer that night. Can't stop listening now. Have a crush.
A few years ago I found some old love letters my dad sent to my mom during WWII. "Their" song was Moonlight bay. Your incredible version of that song embodies the love they had for each other. Thank you! An now I've just found this little wonder, and will be singing it to my grandkids. Again. Thank you! We saw you in Park City Utah last year, any chance you can make up here again? Thank you for the music!
I am running out of things to say about this artist. I guess I shall just listen and be thought an idiot, instead of commenting and removing all doubt. This is so lovely.
Billy Scribbles- he fascinates me for some crazy reason. I didn't know anything about him until I heard him sing a Christmas carol.. It was baby its cold outside I think. I keep looking for more videos but can't find that many.

Love Leon's inimitable style on this classic he recorded in 1981. The oldest recorded version I found was Jimmie Rodgers. Another really lovely rendition is by Michael Nesmith in 1974 - check it out: ua-cam.com/video/ahT-kaqlBCU/v-deo.html Nez is underrated as singer/songwriter and vocal interpreter, such as on this lullaby.
This song and his voice are so beautiful. His music calms me.
yes, I agree
Exactly why I love listening to him 😌

Tried to get my Ex wife to listen to another story, another time, another place but she would rather hate. Oh well, her loss
