    Safely getting tattooed as a diabetic has more to do with your blood sugar control than the specific type you have. If your blood sugar control is pretty decent (an article I read recently recommended an A1C below 8.0), your body’s ability to heal is pretty normal. A good thing to discuss with a doctor beforehand.
    Not an expert or doctor, just a diabetic interested in tattoos. 👍

    I saw you did a video where you addressed telling a client that their design isn't a great tattoo idea or isn't something you'd like to have on your resume without coming across rude or hurting their feeling, but how as a canvas can you communicate to your artist that what they have drawn up isn't what you had in mind without hurting their feelings or making them feel like they wasted their times? Thanks a million man

    I’d love to hear you talk about tattoos and moles. I’ve got a lot all over my body. None are raised, my tattoo artist that I see now said she considers them freckles rather than moles, but another called them moles. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I haven’t gotten tattooed anywhere that I have a lot, but I do want tattoos on my arms where I do have a lot of my spots lol

      Christine Tharp good question. I’m not sure if I should make a whole video about freckles and moles or if I should answer it in a qna. In short though it’s not good to tattoo over moles as it can cause them to become malignant. This depends on the size of the mole and is a small chance but I avoid them when I tattoo and just go around them. If they’re just freckles I go right over them

    I don't know if you've talked about this before, but I was hoping you could speak about the long term health effects of having tattoos (e.g. risks of cancer, metals in the ink seeping into your liver/kidney, possible weakened immune system, etc.) and what level of caution/concern people with tattoos should have, whether they're covered with tattoos or just have a couple. Big fan of your content btw.

I just recently started lifting weights and trying to gain weight, so I can maybe get to an average size where it won’t matter. Looking to get one at the end of the year or maybe next summer, but I’m worried they’ll still be the same. I don’t really want to wait until I’m 25 to get one.

    Thank you for your expertise, I am actually a physician who is looking to get my first piece done - that’s how I stumbled upon your channel. I’m sure somebody already confirmed for you regarding diabetes, but the difference between type one and type two is that type one patients are no longer producing insulin in their pancreas, and Type II means that they do make insulin most of the time but they’re not responding to it/are not sensitive to it anymore. regarding the safety of tattooing in a diabetic: the type of diabetes they have plays lesser role, but what does matter is how well their diabetes is controlled. if they are able to control their diabetes well, then they shouldn’t experience tremendous side-effects or slower healing than you normally would expect.

Also, when traveling for appointments with an artist and you need to do a lot of tattooing in 1 or 2 days, what is the realistic expectation of how long the sessions can be or to work on the same area in consecutive days without the usual healing time. Thanks!

    Video on healing? Saniderm vs conventional? What you recommend? Difference in healing process for colour or BnG? /time it takes?

    • @spidey_things
      @spidey_things Рік тому

      I know this isnt directed at me, but I feel the need to reccomend saniderm or derm for short. Saniderm is awesome, I've been getting a big piece done, and saniderm has sped up my healing process significantly. It helps keep your tattoo, and your skin protected from the elements for a few days to a week. It helps keep friction off of your fresh tattoo, and whenever I've taken my saniderm off a few days after getting a tattoo it started off in the peeling stage of healing. Which normally takes me a week to get to naturally.
      If you do decide to use saniderm, take it off in the shower. The heat loosens the adhesive and makes peeling it off so much easier. Dont take it off without warm water, taking it off dry can cause great damage to your tattoo by ripping off scabs that won't be ready to come off yet. It can scar you. Pull in the direction your hair grows, which is normally top to bottom, dont pull against the direction your hair grows. You want to peel the derm off, not wax your healing skin. I hope this helped 😊

    Hey James, what are your thoughts on involving two different artists for a single piece?
    I have three cases:
    - I agreed to a tattoo design, got started with the outline, but the tattoo artist made me feel uncomfortable by suggesting changes in the shading/color scheme (Disagreement with original artist)
    - I also have my buddies who: got their tattoos partially finished in one country, but won't be able to return there to finish it, OR, the tattoo artist passed away before finishing the work. (Extreme circumstance where original tattoo artist cannot finish the work.)
    I know every piece by a proper tattoo artist is the artist's work, and it's considered disrespectful to ask another artist to finish it off. The last thing I want is to disrespect anyone, but I'm asking you, the professional, purely for curiosity's sake.
    Thanks!

    • @JamesWithee
      @JamesWithee  3 роки тому

      Thx. On a sleeve it can go either way. I prefer ppl to just have a theme with a few pieces of subject matter that need to be in there and just let me handle all the planning of the composition. When ppl come in and start running down all the details of where shit will be placed, how big it will be, and what color things will be I’m apprehensive cuz I know it’ll look weak in the end if they make all those decisions. Once in a while they have good ideas for all that stuff though so it’s all case by case. Come in with a decent plan but ask the artist what they think and they’ll usually improve on it

Now I'm 170 but have gotten down to 153 as recently as 4 years ago because I was working in the heat to clean out my house to sell it. A year and a half ago I started working out every day and now I maintain my weight much better. The kicker is I got piercings back then but never a tattoo. I am one of the unlucky ones who have had allergic reaction to red ink, or rather a dark pink in my case. Red pigment non the less. Luckily it's just a tiny part of my tattoo. It did heal perfectly, but i have had several reactions in the months after. For me it's kind of like getting a mosquito bite, just strictly located to the places with the certain pigment i react to. My skin also gets raised there, I've mostly been able to avoid itching but sometimes it starts during the night and i wake up having itched on it. So it has left me with scar tissue on a few small spots sadly. Will get a touch up with a different ink later on to fix this.

I’m asking since I have some tattoos on my inner forearm each piece from different artists and it seems like my minor blowouts only occur on my arms (they’re scar coverups) I have tattoos on my hip and ankles with no blowouts so I’m very curious as to why this happens.

    Know this an old video but you touched on text tattoos and addressed the fading/blow-out potential of the line work in the text. I'm curious about what the smallest size text you would recommend to do in order to keep text legible for longer. I have an idea of what I want to do, but no one I have asked can give a straight answer unless I schedule an appointment or consultation.
    I don't want to waste the time of the artist and am not asking for a design or layout, just wanting to have a general idea of what size text stays legible the longest. Know there has to be a rule of thumb on the subject. My concern is if I schedule a consultation and what I am after is either too small or too large for the area, there would be a good chance that I'd pass and end up wasting both of our time and money. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

    I understand where you come from about being self taught and your reasoning for saying you like the apprenticeship. My question is that why do some of the artists that went through the apprenticeship look down upon and might even hate the artists that are self taught? Because at the end of the day that is how tattooing started by inventing and self teaching themselves how to do it better just like everything else.

    I have an interesting situation for you. 7 years ago I apprenticed in a Street shop for about 3 months before the owner closed up. I moved cities shortly after and was unable to afford another apprenticeship and also didn’t want to start over. I began learning more and improving on my own until I was fortunate enough to work in a pop up shop last year. The owner wasn’t an artist but a barber and so the shop closed up 2 months later. I was able to improve my work exponentially with the help of another more seasoned artist in that short time. I have been on this journey for nearly 7 years now and still can’t seem to land a position were I can work full time. Every shop around town typically fills up with artist as they hold each other in a tight nit community, only allowing friends or people they know into a booth space. So what advice might you have for me? Should I just consistently show my face in shops until I can get in, try to arrange my own studio, should I move again, how have other self-taught artist gotten to tattooing full-time in your experience?

I already have pieces on my forearm and bicep that are visible when I’m wearing my polo shirts for work. I’m not supposed to get more visible tattoos if I want to stay in this “professional” world. I already have an idea for a full sleeve tattoo, and I’ve have the plan for years. Would you suggest just sticking with a half sleeve until it becomes more acceptable to have tattoos in my profession, or should I just stop getting tatted on my arms and keep my two pieces I already have?

    My question for your next q&a. My first tattoo was done by an unskilled apprentice. It was almost 10 years ago. The lines are SUPER blown out, the tattoo is completely raised everywhere, and I have patches of ink fallout. I followed all aftercare, I’m super anal about that stuff, and I definitely didn’t scratch it. I’ve had artists tell me it’s an allergy, others say it’s just because the Tattooer had a heavy hand? It’s just a black outline of Minnie Mouses head. Since then anytime I’ve shown an artist the piece they said the artist went way too deep. My question is this... is it possible to cover this? I want it covered but I’m worried that I’d still be able to feel/see the raised outline which would kinda defeat the purpose? Or should I just consider laser? Thanks man, love your content! 🖤

    Diabetics are vascular insufficient and should not get tattoos on their lower legs. I have a really bad ink allergy. I think it’s summi ink (tebori), every time I even lightly scratch my back or if I get a slap on the back I have absolutely insane itching. It lasts for an entire minute, doesn’t get better with anything, and it’s been 2.5 years now.

    • @JamesWithee
      @JamesWithee  4 роки тому +2

      Shane Jampole damn that sucks. Rather than an ink allergy it’s also possible that it just has to do with the method used to tattoo it though. Tebori is pretty hard in the skin, and in my experience the tattoos that I got by someone with a heavy hand itch pretty badly from time to time. They also get raised up like a Braille tattoo ever couple of months. Not sure if it’s from scarring or what causes that. What colors do u have in your piece? Any red?

      @JamesWithee  4 роки тому +1

      Ascalis is your black more solid or “saturated” than your red ink? Cuz if so it might be similar to what I’m talking about where the areas that were worked over more heavily have that discomfort more often. It’s possible that I’m wrong about black having less risk of allergy but I would say 9/10 black inks I’ve come across only contain carbon, alcohol, and water, so I think mild overworking is the culprit in those cases where a black tattoo itches a lot

    • @shane228
      @shane228 4 роки тому

      James Withee So the outline (which is the only part that itches) was with a machine, all the color is tebori. My teal and red-heavy orange are both fine, it’s really just the Summi (Sunni? The traditional stuff) ink that itches like crazy, It does raise up when it “activates”. It is a whole (I complete, half done with color) back piece and some of the lines are pretty thick, but even the smaller one pass lines itch.

    Why does blue ink tattoos turn brown after it’s healed. Light blue specifically.

    • @JamesWithee
      @JamesWithee  4 роки тому +2

      Marq G if you’re black it’s because of the melanin in your skin. One of the benefits of being darker is that your body creates a natural defense against uv exposure. But when u lighten it by adding tattoo ink that is much lighter than your skin the skin produces more melanin to protect itself in response. It tends to look like a more tan and neutral version of the ink color and can sometimes look patchy because it doesn’t happen evenly all the way across the skin. This also happens more with colors that are opposite of your undertone. That’s why the light blue is more of a problem than other colors. Light blue only looks really good on ppl that are really light in complexion

    • @MarkyMarq
      @MarkyMarq 4 роки тому

      James Withee Thank you for the response🙏🏽. I have a teal color in my sleeve which came out really nice. Would you recommend a darker blue? Like a royal blue? Or stay away from that all together?

    • @JamesWithee
      @JamesWithee  4 роки тому +1

      Marq G it’s tough to say without seeing your skin but in general on brown skin a darker blue tends to look even darker in the skin than it does in the bottle. Sometimes they can look almost black. There are different blues though and the ones that are warmer, such as teal, neutralize less in the skin because most skin tones are also warm so it conflicts less. I’d prolly stay away from all light blues and dark blues that are more on the purplish blue side rather than the greenish blue side of the spectrum. This is a generalization though. If you have a good tattooer they’ll be able to give more specific advice
