Grace was so kind to those two, and gave an honest interview. She could not plumb the depths of her worst alcohol-induced behavior, but gave a strong warn-off to alcohol and the drugs. One of my favorite short Slick interviews - the old salt speaking to naive, kindly, but not too bright kids.
+Melissa Wright Yeah, and I like how she can draw too, besides sing, and has done some good art since then. I heard an interview with The Guess Who singer who opened for Jeff/Air in concert once. He thought the Guess Who would be a tough act to follow, but he was wrong. After the first few notes of "White Rabbit," the place went nuts.
Not really. They are all long time veteran musicians who were each successful. You think Donny and Marie weren’t fans of Grace? You think they never listened to rock music?
my reaction too. never liked Donnie & Marie's music, & never saw their show, but they do a better interview here than a lot of performer interviews I've seen. They've got a nice interaction between them too. makes me wonder what other equally improbably sounding interviews they did. Dylan? Zappa? Baez? got curious enuf to do a youtube search, and amid the sea of vanilla I see Stevie Wonder, Count Basie, Richard Simmons, Little Richard.
"bald" = "no hair on head" "skinhead" is a modern slang that implies "by choice" or even "as a statement" (tho there are many diff personal statements thus made) "bald" was the word for no hair on head back when few if any chose to shave their heads. my impression is it is now only used in reference to people who can't grow hair ... but there is probably still a lot of crossover between the 2 uses for many people becuz "choosing" no head hair is a recent new style (at least "recent" at the pace at which languages evolve specific new terms). I've no idea which +abyios is saying Grace is.
This is actually quite surreal. Donnie and Marie, the quintessential goody-two-shoes just really truly do not understand Grace, what she was about, or any of that scene at all. But they give it a good honest effort and end up getting a pretty good interview.
Yeah...I'm sitting wondering how she ended up on their show. I just can't see the two of them sitting around brainstorming about who to have on the show and coming up with Grace Slick. They both go to questioning about drugs, but Marie is pretty condescending. Grace handles herself very well, honest and up front while still remaining a polite guest.
@@turnipgreen17 absolutely not! She was a long time veteran musician and trust me, she’s been through a lot. She was very respectful and I think she really liked Grace and definitely knew her music and talent.

Just when this interview was getting REALLY good. . .Donnie and Marie had to cut away to sell some cornflakes or douche powder. What they SHOULD have done was allotted the entire hour to Ms Slick. Her intelligence and wit far outstrips most of those around her. This kind of interview you just can't get anymore.
I'm reading these comments and all the jokes of people making fun of bad girl Grace Slick being interviewed by goody two shoes Donny and Marie. The truth is it was a very good interview, I think the most insightful one I've heard. Maybe it was so good because Grace and Donny and Marie being so different that brought out subject matter that someone who was Grace's peer would have never thought to discuss.
I agree. The comments are unreasonable. All three of them come across as pleasant, positive, and cheery. Far from being "out of their element," the Osmonds come across as chatty, curious, and respectful. How unlike interviewers today who always insist on putting people on the spot.
Marie and Donny, because of their genuine innocence, ask the best questions. Grace's life, and The Osmond's lives, two opposite worlds. Great interview.
The Osmonds got stoned right before the show: Grace had done so many drugs up to this point she is clinically high the rest of her life. Murder Was the Case That They Gave Me.
Three 70s icons from very different worlds meeting together at the end of the 20th Century to talk and coming across as reasonable, mature, and pleasant adults. Wish all superstars could pull that off. Remarkable interview.
Grace is one of those people who would be tremendously interesting to spend time with just talking, she always seems to cover a good scope of topics. Donnie and Marie were totally out of their element with her and I completely enjoyed it seeing this.
yeah if I could sit down and have dinner with somebody famous this would be the lady - i'd love to hear her talk about her shotgun standoff with the cops.
@@davidpanzer1166 they were very gracious and kind, but they weren't ever going to be able to pull the kind of deep dive from a musician like Grace. What I said stands, you can be mad all you want, but Grace Slick is not your ideal Donny and Marie daytime TV guest and seeing them struggle to get her was hilarious.
What makes this interview interesting is that its an odd pairing of people that works. Its too bad that we cant all be so positive and respect everyone elses differences and learn from that in 2017. Grace is clearly a rich white girl who followed her mind in the 1960's and has survived the consequences of the spinning wheel. Today we have a different drug problem killing a generation of people in their 20's and 30's. The wheel they spin was not as fortunate, but those of us with open minds can watch this interview and really understand this conversation. Especially when it is conducted by the hottest 'bubble gum' teen act of the 70's. Their experience was totally different from Grace as far as drugs go. Marie lost her son a few years ago. Triumph and tragedy doesn't exempt itself from us weather we are rich, poor, drug free, drug user, good or bad images, democrat or republican. Great interview!
Growing up during the 60s & 70s we heard so many different kinds of artists all on the same stations. I guess that's why this doesn't bother me to see Donny & Marie interviewing Grace. We flat out had the greatest musical artists ever to be the soundtrack of our lives!
Yes! Not to mention on the same stations you’d hear James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Aretha, Dionne Warwick, Supremes, Beach Boys, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Bobble Gentry, Ronettes, etc etc
Not only does she have a Great scene of humor, she's really down to earth and it shows! I know these interviews are a pain I'm the @$$ , but she is always so gracious. With the voice that sounds like no one else, she has paved the way for many female vocalist!
Kids today get kanye, beeber and x factor contestants. They had Hendrix, Jefferson, Psychedelic era Beatles and psychedelic rock in general...Even my generation had Britpop and Grunge which was basically a homage to the 60's and pretty wild.
I always had my own interpretation of White Rabbit which very well translates to the use of drugs but Grace has a very legitimate point about the story books we were read and read as children. Our innocent minds go gaga with the transformations the characters went through. I'm surprised Cinderella wasn't mentioned. Imagine the TRIP of the changing of mice, pumpkin, attire and having to be back before the clock strikes midnight. Only vampires and werewolves paid heed to that warning.
