Coming from a 76ers fan here, love Mobley and the cavs “twin tower” lineup of him and Jarrett Allen. In only his rookie season he’s had an tremendous impact on the cavs franchise, helping them to the 4th seed in east (as of right now) when most people thought they would be barely be in the top 10. easily rookie of the year for me.
Future DPOY annual candidate..I have watched every game and the man has incredible feel on the defensive side of the ball in the paint AND on perimeter.
played against this guy in aau in hs. he wasnt as polished as he is now. definitely a raw prospect when i played him (we were like 15-16 at the time. same age group). but def had alotta potential. the rim protection was always there tho. i got my shit swatted twice by him lmao. def can develop into a great defensive and potentially offensive 4 or 5.
Always a Cavs fan but I have not be so in tune with the team since the arrival of Darius and now Evan. Down to earth and a joy to watch. His demeanor really reminds me of Tim Duncan.
He got really long legs relative to his height which makes his upper body really light, lowering the center of mass. That allows him to move really well by sliding his feet effectively
@@christophergooding9820 You should read comments clearly before you comment. He’s a rookie, the question was how he guards NBA players as if he has done it before. His answer may change throughout his years in the league where at that point his answer to this question would be more insightful and logical.

Why would he be compared to centers when he plays PF every single game? Also to answer your question, he does just fine guarding most bigs. Elite bigs? No one can stop them so just stfu.
This might not seem fare here to nock a great rookie on his promotional video, but it is a promotional video fighting for ROTY so let’s do the fighting here for it. Not that I think Scottie has to promote himself for ROTY, but someone should be. That’s what he is, the real ROTY. As I stated elsewhere: Let’s be real! Can Cade do exactly what Mobley does, and vice versa, at a high levels? No. They each play their individual positions at a high level getting buckets while doing so. Mobley is definitely better than Cade. Now, can Scottie do what either of Cade or Mobley does at a high level? Yes and has. But, neither can do “everything” Scottie does at a high level, period! Scottie was tide at the highest EFF rating with Mobley at 9.2. Cade doesn’t even come close to their EFF, and his points & ast come from being the sole generator on a losing team and he takes his stats were he wants them; so pretty much count him out. Put Cade on a current top 6 team in either conference with a top level PG and he’s likely coming off the bench. Mobley is lucky he was paired with Allen with his help around the rim occasionally being able to get out of his role while being fed by Garland on set plays to beef his stats. Back to Scottie! He’s the fifth option on a starting lineup with the other 4 being VanVleet, Siakam, OG, Gary Trent JR who are at the top of their game, with the stats to prove it, and regardless of which one is out he filled their shoes and positions while someone else takes his. Scottie steals his stats in the mud without having plays called for him: 15.3 pts/ 49.1 fg%/31.4 3p%/ 73.2 ft%/ 2.6 oreb/ 1.2 stl/ .8 blk. He beats Mobley out on every stat dam near across the board. Sure, Mobley beat Scottie in dreb and blks (barely) to bring his EFF up to Scottie, but so he should; it’s his natural position as he’s 7 feet tall! So let’s continue being real! Scottie has been compared from Magic to Draymond Green, to Pippen to Giannis to Rodman (depending on which US broadcaster is seeing him on any given night while in their broadcast area while he’s filling that role), and Scottie sits above rookie Shaq on the 25pts/15blks/5stls of the rookie club after posting 28pts/16reb/5stls/4ast/1blk/87.5fg% in a game. Scottie guards top stars on current teams at any position on any given night because he’s assigned to them, not because they switch on to him for US highlight reels. He has several highlight against them per game. So let’s stop the b*llsh!t. Let us not have a LeBron attitude because you been schooled by the rookie the first half of your first meeting with him! Be a Durant or one of any of the other stars he’s guarded and picked, and who has given credit where it’s do! The US media and writer are not doing that. They are being LeBrons. The media need to keep it real! I’d love to see a UA-cam compilation of the broadcasters and writers being interviewed stating their individual comparisons of Scottie to current & past stars from all the different positions on the one night and game of the year they will take the time to watch Scottie when he’s in their broadcast area. They’d finally get his diversity. It would likely embarrass them into admitting the truth. Or them stating prior to the games their current front runner while also stating they have yet to watch Scottie play and are excited to watch the game. Makes me wonder what they base their votes on. Do they base it on other US media and writers that yet to watch him play? There my rant of the day😂
He reminds me of Tim Duncan, he doesn’t really say much and he lets his game do the talking 🗣

dont forget markkanen,,, cavs got that triple towers
people didn’t even think they’d make the play in, incredibly impressive season from them
I love how he talks such a soft spoken person
He really does defend like a machine it’s sort of … beautiful

This man just started doing this. Give him years in the league before asking him this question. 🤦♂️
Bruh he’s gonna make an all defense team in his rookie season lol. He’s a perfect player to ask

Scottie for ROTY
And how is he doing against other centers?
he does fine for the most part but as of now PF should definitely be his primary position.

Cool Scottie Barnes ROTY tho
Naw it’s mobley by far he is a big reason why the cavs are the 4th seed
Nah
Only reason they the 4th seed is cause of 2 all stars, Mobley is not the ROTY is going to be Scottie or Cade sorry Cav fans
Scottie Barnes definitely ROTY.
@@salshan20 He's not, man. Mobley's already one of the best defenders in the league. Barnes is really good for a rookie. It's not particularly close.
Show him defending an Elite Big like Embiid… oh wait …
that’s just hating. He’s a rookie with good defense and you want him to guard the possible MVP of the league lmao
Hé is skinny asf he can’t guard a 300 pound demigod that can dribble and shoot step backs like a guard
As if anyone can guard him rn, learn common sense bozo
He plays small forward, you can't expect him to defend an mvp candidate, especially when you have Jarret Allen on your team.
