As an Evangelical Law Professor from Portugal, I started reading and studying the Church Fathers as I worried about the corrosive effects of new-marxist and post-modernist acideologies and decided to become a Catholic. My wife and 21 year old boy decided to do the same.
I’m a Catholic Highland Scot.. Yes we had the straw kicked out of by the Anglican Aristocracy. We were only able to build Catholic chapels were only build after 300 years of bigotry, which has not ended. Yes, we are second class citizens. The fight for our identity goes on . Yet, our faith/ ideology goes on, the light of Christ goes on as it did during our those years of persecution.
if memory serves, the Tridentine Mass was an attempt to unify or standardize the Latin rite Mass which over the centuries had developed all kinds of variations all over the place. Not only the ambrosian rite which still exists, but various religious order rites, not to mention the many dioceses.
One of the best interviews I've heard in a long time. I'm a big fan of Michael Knowles, and it used to bother me that some of his best talks, like this interview or his lecture on Donte, get relatively so few views and interest, while his comparatively lowbrow political shows get so much, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I realize that to be a Catholic is like being well-read or thoughtful these days, it's puts you in a small group, and we shouldn't aim to be loved by the world. I hope Michael keeps doing serious interviews and talks like this.
I’ve been watching the YT channel “Reason and Theology “. Michael Loftan’s channel. He is working on a doctorate in magisterial and papal authority. Very balanced and hopeful. He used to be a Protestant, then a Radical Traditionalist Catholic, then a true obedient Catholic and not critical of our authoritative Church teachings or the Pope and brings a very balanced and intellectual approach to what people say the Pope says and what he actually says. His insight is invaluable and excellent.
Mike is totally wrong at 14:00, Orthodoxy is the only Church to go to for all the answers. BTW; the Orthodox know about the Marcion heresy too......sigh. Wake up Mike.
With all due respect, both of these Catholics need to take an Ecclesiology 101 course.......Michael Lofton is a Professor and teaches a course on the Magisterium at a college. He would make a great guest on this show. Unfortunately, it's probably not gonna happen.
The councils of the Catholic Church determined which books belong in the Bible. That process wasn't completed until the 4th century A.D. And it's not the RCC. It's just the Catholic Church. There are over 20 other rites. "Roman" (actually "Latin" is the correct term) is just one of them but they are all in communion with each other and have the same teachings. Unlike Protestant or Orthodox.

This discussion is brilliant…..young man, old man, American, British……true Catholicism at work. Best show ever!

In your charity, professor, please help me pay my rent. I've been out of job in more than a year now. Deus o abençoe.

@@Dee-mj3pu I would love to, but I don't even have the means to do anything right now. I'm in a terrible place.
what a wonderful converstion. thank you for this!
Wonderful discussion! Thank you both!
Knowles' optimism and "joyful warrior" spirit is so refreshing. Thanks for the interview!
Two of my favorite people and Catholic commentators. Thank you for this video. Intelligent, inspiring and hopeful.
Christ is King!
Wonderful conversation. Deserves so many more views.
Thanks all. Any conversation with Dr Ashenden is worth its weight in gold
What a great interview. I could listen for hours. I appreciated Michael's optimism as these are dark days but we must have faith. Thank you Gavin.
I love Michael’s explanations.
Always great to hear Michael's optimistic take on things.
It is always useful to be reminded of what we already know. This whole discussion is a 'Tour de Force'. More please.
The Gavin Ashenden impact is evident. Am getting stronger in my faith.

This has been a wonderful discussion between two very articulate and knowledgeable commentators. Thank you. It needs a wider audience.
Delightful to encounter this level of intellectual conversation. Thank you!
A great talk between two great Catholics🙏
God bless you both and keep up the good work🙏
Thank you.
Gavin Ashenden is a brilliant man and we're lucky to have him !
Great interview and nice to see Michael have an interlocutor that knows at least what he does about catholic history.
Very good discussion.
Mr Knowles showed more thoughtfulness than I credited him with.
A great time to be and grow as a Catholic!!
A great time to be and grow as Eastern Orthodox.
I learned such a lot. Thank you. Greetings from Berlin Germany.
great!
That felt like a very interesting and vital discussion was cut way to short.
Thanks though let me know when and if there is a part 2.

hi Gavin. I'll save and listen later
Mike should do another interview entitled; '.........and how the ORTHODOX Church can save the West.'
Catholicism has built-in checks & balances!
Dailywire UK? Why not?

How I wish that we had a Catholic pope 🤷🏻♂️

I agree with Cardinal Sarah. Our job is not to "Save The West".
Truly excellent.
"... and it's very nice to meet you in person"?
Michael misses the point; Boniface VIII did not - unlike Francis - actually attack the RC faith.

Neutral on what?

I’m sure Mr. Knowles supports the type of “Catholicism” that his employer, Mr. Shapiro, finds acceptable.
