      Melbournian here Surina. Great to hear your thoughts on working here - and thank you for coming out here. We love the UK docs here!
      But I agree, those 6am starts sound mingin!! 😂 (is that the right word?! Lol)
      Really hope you are enjoying your time here. Best wishes, and thanks again for your service in medicine here 🙂

    Lucky me in my job in Australia, I only work 7 days a fortnight, but I do 12 hours shifts. I get paid 6 weeks of Recreational leaves and 10 sick leaves. If they ever ask me to work overtime, I get paid double and the decision to work extra hours is entirely mine, no one can force me. We have people in our department who work overtime by their own choice, but they still keep whinging. I technically work only around 4 months a year here in Brisbane, but I think it all depends what you are doing and who you are working for.
    I went to UK to work, but then came back as the weather was terrible, pay rate wasn’t great probably less than half what I am getting paid here in Brisbane and more working hours in UK. Glad, I am back in Australia.

    Guys, come out to Australia too, we’d love to have you here as well! 😃
    Just to clarify, there’s a difference between rural and outback Australia. Outback would be the middle of nowhere as you guys put it. Rural Australia outside the major cities is still reasonably built up with larger towns and smaller cities. Of course not as dense and built up as the UK. They do make it much easier for GP’s to go to regional areas as there is quite a shortage there - and there are some great parts of regional Australia that are very liveable.
    Great video though - it felt like a chat session with friends 😀
    Some come on down guys. The colonies need you! 😂

    Great interview! Starting on a post where one needs to prep for 6AM ward round sounds brutal

    Having worked with the NHS, I’d say all the hard work is over focused on procedures rather than the actual work of treating patients.

    Great video guys! How long does it take before one can get into a surgery training program?

    • @ScanningTheMind
      @ScanningTheMind  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! After med school you have to do 2 foundation years and then you can apply for 2 years of core surgical training. After that you apply for a further 6 years of subspecialty training in a particular type of surgery (ENT, Ortho etc). How long it takes you to get into core surgical training and then subspecialty training depends how well you do at interview/CV etc. Some people get in first time, some people take 2/3/4/5 extra years.

      @@femie6464 Hey! Generally speaking it takes a lot longer to get onto surgical training programme in Aus than it does in the UK. Typically you'll do 2-3 years (often even more) of non-training jobs before you get a number. The training programme is a lot shorter than in the UK (?5-6 years) but just takes ages to get on!

    Over the years every worker has had a "wage cut" because wage rises that are below inflation .........so why do the doctors think they are a special case and should have their salaries restored ???????????

  • @justabloke1806
    @justabloke1806 Рік тому +1

    And that’s the problem in that they all just want to go to the cities and are useless to country Australians.
    New doctors coming to Australia should be forced to do time in smaller towns that need them the most.
    Cities already have an over abundance of doctors.
    City doctors do not care about patients only about money.
