Phenomenal job on not only my pick for the worst film I have seen this year but one of the worst films I have personally seen this decade. The Predator was that fucking bad. I was at a loss for words sometimes to express how truly terrible this movie was. I knew it was going to be horrible, but I had no idea, nor could I have ever possibly imagined it would be this horrible and this much of a disgrace to the franchise. This film is The Predator Killer. It killed the franchise. Knocked its fucking head off and put it on a pike. It was so putrid and pathetic that to quote John Wick... "Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back!" Back to put this fucking film in a body bag.
Sounds like the Alien: Covenant of the Predator franchise. Just when you think they can't sink these franchises any lower they somehow find ways to surprise you.
They should have gotten the guys from JOHN WICK to direct a Predator movie. Shane Black is way overrated and Fred Dekker hasn't done anything good in 30 years.
Good points there TheTripleEight, i too was fortunate enough to have lot of fun watching this in theater with audience who also had a great time with it, and i'll be honest, that helped a lot to get through some problems the movie has. I still liked it and would gladly watch it again whenever i watch first two classics, but i sure as hell wouldn't consider it to be just as good as those two. What i mean is, i also liked the cast, gore and bits of action and all, but is it so fucking obvious that this movie went through some shit or what. Even with the problems it already had going back from original script, the studio interference really just fucked it up more with forced re-shots and re-cuts and that awful last scene.

It was awful. From the Syfy Channel CGI dogs and water balloon blood to subtitled, talking Predators to the War Machine suit flying on the lab guy at the end. I don't know who could have been involved in making this and thought this was doing the series justice. This seemed like it was made by people who hate Predator; even twice in the movie mocking the name Predator. The comedy bits throughout are truly cringe-worthy, but that's not even the worst of it... There's this moment where the Stargazer people show Olivia Munn the Predators from '87 and '97 on a tablet and it's literally screen captures from the first 2 movies... one of which being the Predator when Dutch was covered in mud, when it comes out of the water and it can't see him. Like... someone was there and took that photo. This movie had no pacing and it was edited so badly that you can tell there was no thought-out complete story while they were filming it. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about. In the teaser trailer, McKenna says, "We're assassins. Isn't posing a threat kind of the point?" In the redband trailer, McKenna says, "We're rangers [as it shows the guys from the bus]. Isn't posing a threat kind of the ****ing point?" In the movie, McKenna says, "I'm a sniper. Isn't posing a threat kind of the ****ing point?" Why were there 3 alternate takes of the same scene that completely change what he's saying? In the redband trailer, when Olivia Munn is handcuffed to the chair, Sterling K. Brown is introducing himself and talks about how Predators conquered space. In the movie, it was well past the point they'd already met at the Stargazer lab. Multiple instances like that where things are in the trailers that aren't in the movie at all, such as McKenna looking up at the sky and saying, "come and get us mother ****ers." In the scene where the looney crew is getting on the RV to escape the middle school while the big Predator kills the fugitive Predator, it shows a pitbull from the football field running toward them and it cuts away. They don't take the dog with them and the dog is never seen again. You can't tell me Shane Black is a smart writer and had a vision of what he wanted when he made this when the whole thing was cut and paste scenes from alternate stories. Jake Busey's cameo as Keyes' son leads to nothing or any exposition dialogue about Peter Keyes from P2. At no point does anyone in the movie talk about hiding their body heat from the Predators. For some reason Olivia Munn is able to sneak up on the big Predator at the end by using the invisibility orb... which shouldn't mean a damn to a creature with heat vision. For some reason the Stargazer base has the mask from P1 but not the mask from P2 that was left behind at the slaughterhouse. Why are they called Stargazer rather than OWLF like in P2? Just a lot of WTF things that could have been easily fixed with a script doctor. It would have been a truly meta moment if, at the end, the "Predator Killer" that came out of that pod was Shane Black, because he has done an effective job of killing the franchise.

The Predator franchise was already in the shitter because it is not like Predators or three AVP films were that great either. But at least the AVP films did not act like comedies. At least they were being serious. This film is just............ BLLLLAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!
Alien covenant is actually way better than The Predator. At least it knew when to not constantly make unnecessary comedy that gets annoying to a certain point, if anything, the comedic relief in covenant at least knew when to not joke around.

I refuse to acknowledge this film as being part of the main franchise. The way I see it you have Predator 1, 2 & 3. Then you have AVP, AVP 2 & The Predator. The latter being a spin off from the spin off series which is no longer canon in either the Alien or Predator franchise so neither is The Predator. It is an abomination which makes the AVP films look good (and that is something I'd have said was close to impossible!)

It wasn’t a horror film like the previous movies but a non stop mindless action film. I did see some people walk out the theater close to the ending of the movie. The lead guy sent the Predator tech to his PO box. The mailmman delivered the package to his home because he didn't pay his PO Box bill/subscription. The mailman says that to the kid. This has the worst third act and ending of all the Predator sequels, in my opinion.
I was watching predator 2 the other day and I noticed something cool in the spaceship. When Harrigan first enters the space ship, he’s looking up at a specific spot in the ceiling and looking at its pattern. Right after the elder gives him the gun and tells him to get out, Harrigan finds his way out of the ship in that short amount of time that he had by running and looking up at that same ceiling spot he first sees when he enters. He knew that was the way out. Next time you watch predator 2 look at when he first enters and when he’s exiting the ship, he looks at that same spot both times I think that’s really cool
I know you don't like Predators as u said in the video. But imo Berserker Predator was a much more bad ass and intimidating villain than the ultimate predator.

I'm surprised how calm you are. I won't lie I love all 3 movies, including Predators. I nearly wrecked my room after seeing this movie. It's worse than Prometheus and Alien Covenant combined. FUCK!
He has become jaded and numb after all the trash that has come out. Trash like this isn't shocking anymore after all the other franchises have been screwed. And fans continue to eat it up and for some reason want these beloved franchises to be processed like rotting zombies instead of just letting them rest in peace and enjoying them forever on home video. I'm sorry this turned out like it did for you. I was hesitant on seeing the movie in the theater but now this might conclude my decision. I might just stay home and watch Predator 2 instead.
"Predator - should have stopped after the second one" . This is the only statement in this video that I slightly disagree with. People shouldn't have bitched about the second one, and then we might have gotten a solid third one with the original writers instead of Robert Rodriguez.

Wow. Wasn't expecting this review/rant for a few more months. Mainly when the movie is released on Blu-Ray/DVD. But I knew it was going to be a rant video and maybe an epic rant. I've seen a few reviews on UA-cam. They were mostly negative reviews and some tore apart the movie. And with all the negative reviews I've seen, it's pretty dang easy to believe Matt/ramboraph4life that the movie is as awful as he says. If other people are/were giving it negative reviews, I could see Matt giving it a negative review too. And some of those giving it negative reviews actually liked the trailers while Matt hated the trailers. So that's when I knew it was going to be a rant review from Matt/ramboraph4life. I'm definitely skipping the new Predator now. I'll just stick to the first two, which are really the only ones I saw.
I wanted to get Predator on Blu-Ray but I remembered the issues with the "wax figure" grain scrubbing from some of the releases. thanks for bringing that up

Thanks Aaron. Yeah...when this film had a scene where the Predator takes a severed arm which has a Thumbs Up...then puts it through a window to fool a guard into thinking everything's okay...you just have to go 'What The Fuck'...
Great rant. The movie didn't bother too much though. As a goofy action comedy, I thought it was serviceable popcorn entertainment but it's definitely the worst in the franchise (minus the AvP movies) but I do like all 4 Predator movies to varying degrees. Love 1 & 2, don't mind 3 & 4. I liked the idea of The Loonies (would've preferred to see them in their own movie tbh) and it had quite a few lines that made me laugh, which is more than I can say for a lot of recent comedies.
I honestly liked Alien: Resurrection and Alien vs Predator better than this piece of shit. Shane Black is a great accomplished writer and director and I really think him and Decker analyzed the current state of movies and realized franchise movies make a boat load money. So I'm thinking, on purpose, they decided to write the shittiest script possible and see if it makes a profit as a joke.

Although I have not watched the film, this and Iron Man 3 confirms to me Shane Black can't work outside his buddy cop, Kiss!Kiss! Bang!Bang!, Nice Guys, films. This begs th question, why didn't he do that but with a predator(and take the predator seriously)? Or hey what is John McTiernan up to? He's free, get him to direct this! I literally cant stop laughing at you clutching that "Mike Harrigan" doll during the entire rant. It really drives home the fact that you're a huge fan of P2 'The Predator' was not only the worst Predator movie made, but probably one of the worst actual movies ive ever seen in my entire life. The movie isn t out yet over here, I ll probably go to see it when it will came out in October but I trust you.. usually you got things 100% right on your reviews.. Also I highly doubt that a modern sequel, prequel, remake or reboot can ever stands up to the level of its 70s or 80s predecessors.. I gave up with expectations on modern flicks long time ago.. Terminator Genisys was the worst sequel to me I love 1 & 2 to death Arnold was great in those I even liked The TV Show & Terminator Salvation but that killed the franchise for me. I can understand why you don't like Alien even though I like Alien 3 but nothing will ever touch Aliens cause that is more than likely my favorite movie.

My brother saw White Boy Rick last night and he said that was a pretty good movie. Go see that instead! Also, respect to your brother in the military. And I didn't see the original but why did they turn the Predator into an experiment where didn't the Predator was a cold blooded killer. And I hope this film bombs because of what Olivia Munn went through and I hope Shane Black doesn't get anymore work for the sex predator defense scandal!
The low point for me is when they show a random shot of the 'Earth' dog running towards...something? And it is never seen again??? I remember you mentioning the leak about a predator looking at a naked lady, so now we know the scene was quite different in context. It is definitely one mess of a movie.
The only thing I was anticipating was your review. Predator 2 is epic. That film has gunfights and action scenes like the train I’ve never seen before or since.
The more I hear about this movie, the less excited I am to see it. The original Predator is my favorite movie of all time, so the idea of tuning it into a dark comedy isn't exactly appealing to me.

This was a damn parody that was just using its name. -Insults people with autism (Among those being me since I have it) with the Yautja trying to weaponize it as the next step in evolution? Like wut? Who wrote that idea in the script? -You know the movie is bad when they have the Predator of all things use a severed guys arm with a thumbs up and stick it through a window telling the driver everything is okay. -A father using normal mail packaging that contains advanced alien technology and shipping it to his house where his son is. Nothing can possibility go wrong there! -Have a kid accidentally murder a guy at his house with a Predator mask and brush it off like nothing and not horrified he just committed murder. -Have forced cringey humor like "Fucking an aardvark". Before you point it out Predator and Predator 2 had levity, that's the difference. Not cringey humor like what was shown in this parody as I would call it. -Ignoring what made the Yautja unique to begin with being hunters with strict codes to suddenly deciding to take over the earth as soon as humanity dies due to global warming. -Ending with Predator suits looking straight out of Power Rangers. Like really? Who wrote this film and thought all of this was a good idea?
I just saw a day ago, It was okay, not quite perfect enough for sure, he-he, but that’s just me, I was getting the impression of both a film was quite not perfect enough and a script that I read long ago was quite better in its concept. Though what I got the impression again from the film that it seems like it wants to jump into the action, it wants to get fast and pronto, if I’m getting myself wrong, but though I just thought the ending was just awful, what the heck were they thinking with reshooting it from the original script to the new ending.
Exactly. I wasn't even the biggest fan of the original ending from the script, but watching the movie again and hearing from sources who were at test screenings about the version which was filmed, i would gladly take it over the new ending. It goes to show you how late it must have got cut out and changed considering how trailers show so many parts of it, like McKenna and Nebraska riding on APC and one of the other vehicles from their convoy exploding. And you're right about too fast pacing. Maybe the movie would have been better and wouldn't get so much hate if they at least left rest of it alone and not cut it the fuck up to the point where it turned into huge mess.

That's hard to pick, honestly. I want to say Escape Plan 2...but this did have a Predator picking up a 'cut off' arm with a thumbs up on it...then showing it to a guard to fool him into thinking everything was ok...so it's hard to pick right now.
I wish they would just leave Predator alone along with The Alien franchise. AVPR sounds better than this garbage you described & AVPR was pretty mediocre. Shane Black hasn't had it since Lethal Weapon 2 & even then he nearly f'd that movie up cause he wanted to kill Martin Riggs off. I always liked that part on the subway it's my favorite scene where Bill Paxton stands his ground & is taken down by The Predator in that movie. Then there's the scene where Danny Glover confronts Gary Busey & reads him the right act also it's a damn shame that Thomas Jane was never given lead roles or a secondary role in any movies he's just given garbage I wish he'd get to play The Punisher again.
After reading all the comments, im hesitant to say i actually had fun seeing this one. Sure, it had alot of isdues but it was action driven and pretty funny at times. Sucks so many despise it because its direction is more towards gore and adult style humor. Lets face it though, they'll never match the original ever. I did grit my teeth on your review Matt but i can see where you guys are coming from. Altering the storyline, power rangerish anti Predator suit, too many jokes etc... I just recently got a dvd copy of Predator 2, havent seen it since debut at the theatre. I'll obviously enjoy it more as its untainted & more true to the original vision. My arguement in favor to this new installment is most likely pointless, so i will respect your opinion. The RT scores back you up as you're unanimous subs do too. Idk, i might think differently upon 2nd viewing. I see so many franchises doing so much worse maybe im setting the bar too low these days. I am sad they changed the whole plotline but to be truthful, they're making movies for an entirety different audience these days.
Agree with you. Hereditary was a cool little original horror flick. Shows that some filmmakers if they produce something fresh can get it to work well.

It was ahead of it's time in a lot of ways- it had a diverse cast before Hollywood made it a mandate and had a strong female character who was badass and they didn't need to use it as a marketing gimmick. It's slowly getting the respect it deserves.
Honestly this movie was butchered by the company, I heard Shane Black had a better plot in mind and it would have been great if the company didn't meddle in the film's production. Shane Black is partly to blame, but I mainly blame the studio company.
I totally agree, don't get me wrong, I do think Shane can make good movies. But sadly this one was a very bad one, way too many jokes that are pretty much toilet humor at best, and just from watching the trailers, I knew this film would be one of those stupid fast paced movies, the original Predator movie and Predator 2 is way better than this film. The only thing this film needs is a pointless laugh track for the pointless scenes that go on in the movie. You can agree or disagree with me on this, but the AVP film (The first one) was better than this movie, shit it's not one of those "It's bad that it's funny" sort of movie, it's just bad. You can't tell me Shane Black is a smart writer and had a vision of what he wanted when he made this when the whole thing was cut and paste scenes from alternate stories.
Jake Busey's cameo as Keyes' son leads to nothing or any exposition dialogue about Peter Keyes from P2. At no point does anyone in the movie talk about hiding their body heat from the Predators. For some reason Olivia Munn is able to sneak up on the big Predator at the end by using the invisibility orb... which shouldn't mean a damn to a creature with heat vision. For some reason the Stargazer base has the mask from P1 but not the mask from P2 that was left behind at the slaughterhouse. Why are they called Stargazer rather than OWLF like in P2? Just a lot of WTF things that could have been easily fixed with a script doctor.
It would have been a truly meta moment if, at the end, the "Predator Killer" that came out of that pod was Shane Black, because he has done an effective job of killing the franchise.

Based on Matt's review, Alien Covenant seems like it is a lot better as bad as it is. At least Alien Covenant tried to take itself seriously.
Alien covenant is actually way better than The Predator. At least it knew when to not constantly make unnecessary comedy that gets annoying to a certain point, if anything, the comedic relief in covenant at least knew when to not joke around.

Predator 2 sucked.
I refuse to acknowledge this film as being part of the main franchise. The way I see it you have Predator 1, 2 & 3. Then you have AVP, AVP 2 & The Predator. The latter being a spin off from the spin off series which is no longer canon in either the Alien or Predator franchise so neither is The Predator. It is an abomination which makes the AVP films look good (and that is something I'd have said was close to impossible!)

The lead guy sent the Predator tech to his PO box. The mailmman delivered the package to his home because he didn't pay his PO Box bill/subscription. The mailman says that to the kid.
This has the worst third act and ending of all the Predator sequels, in my opinion.
I was watching predator 2 the other day and I noticed something cool in the spaceship. When Harrigan first enters the space ship, he’s looking up at a specific spot in the ceiling and looking at its pattern. Right after the elder gives him the gun and tells him to get out, Harrigan finds his way out of the ship in that short amount of time that he had by running and looking up at that same ceiling spot he first sees when he enters. He knew that was the way out. Next time you watch predator 2 look at when he first enters and when he’s exiting the ship, he looks at that same spot both times I think that’s really cool

Wow. Wasn't expecting this review/rant for a few more months. Mainly when the movie is released on Blu-Ray/DVD. But I knew it was going to be a rant video and maybe an epic rant. I've seen a few reviews on UA-cam. They were mostly negative reviews and some tore apart the movie. And with all the negative reviews I've seen, it's pretty dang easy to believe Matt/ramboraph4life that the movie is as awful as he says. If other people are/were giving it negative reviews, I could see Matt giving it a negative review too. And some of those giving it negative reviews actually liked the trailers while Matt hated the trailers. So that's when I knew it was going to be a rant review from Matt/ramboraph4life. I'm definitely skipping the new Predator now. I'll just stick to the first two, which are really the only ones I saw.
I wanted to get Predator on Blu-Ray but I remembered the issues with the "wax figure" grain scrubbing from some of the releases. thanks for bringing that up

If you have a pc I would recommend AVP2 the video game. All three species have their own single player campaigns with great storylines.

Great rant. The movie didn't bother too much though. As a goofy action comedy, I thought it was serviceable popcorn entertainment but it's definitely the worst in the franchise (minus the AvP movies) but I do like all 4 Predator movies to varying degrees. Love 1 & 2, don't mind 3 & 4. I liked the idea of The Loonies (would've preferred to see them in their own movie tbh) and it had quite a few lines that made me laugh, which is more than I can say for a lot of recent comedies.
I honestly liked Alien: Resurrection and Alien vs Predator better than this piece of shit. Shane Black is a great accomplished writer and director and I really think him and Decker analyzed the current state of movies and realized franchise movies make a boat load money. So I'm thinking, on purpose, they decided to write the shittiest script possible and see if it makes a profit as a joke.

This begs th question, why didn't he do that but with a predator(and take the predator seriously)? Or hey what is John McTiernan up to? He's free, get him to direct this! 'The Predator' was not only the worst Predator movie made, but probably one of the worst actual movies ive ever seen in my entire life. How these scripts get passed big hollywood execs is beyond me.
The movie isn t out yet over here, I ll probably go to see it when it will came out in October but I trust you.. usually you got things 100% right on your reviews.. Also I highly doubt that a modern sequel, prequel, remake or reboot can ever stands up to the level of its 70s or 80s predecessors.. I gave up with expectations on modern flicks long time ago.. Terminator Genisys was the worst sequel to me I love 1 & 2 to death Arnold was great in those I even liked The TV Show & Terminator Salvation but that killed the franchise for me. And I didn't see the original but why did they turn the Predator into an experiment where didn't the Predator was a cold blooded killer. The low point for me is when they show a random shot of the 'Earth' dog running towards...something? And it is never seen again??? I remember you mentioning the leak about a predator looking at a naked lady, so now we know the scene was quite different in context. It is definitely one mess of a movie.
The only thing I was anticipating was your review. Predator 2 is epic. That film has gunfights and action scenes like the train I’ve never seen before or since.
The more I hear about this movie, the less excited I am to see it. The original Predator is my favorite movie of all time, so the idea of tuning it into a dark comedy isn't exactly appealing to me.

This was not a Predator movie. This was a damn parody that was just using its name.
-Insults people with autism (Among those being me since I have it) with the Yautja trying to weaponize it as the next step in evolution? Like wut? Who wrote that idea in the script?
-You know the movie is bad when they have the Predator of all things use a severed guys arm with a thumbs up and stick it through a window telling the driver everything is okay.
-A father using normal mail packaging that contains advanced alien technology and shipping it to his house where his son is. Nothing can possibility go wrong there!
-Have a kid accidentally murder a guy at his house with a Predator mask and brush it off like nothing and not horrified he just committed murder.
-Have forced cringey humor like "Fucking an aardvark". Before you point it out Predator and Predator 2 had levity, that's the difference. Not cringey humor like what was shown in this parody as I would call it.
-Ignoring what made the Yautja unique to begin with being hunters with strict codes to suddenly deciding to take over the earth as soon as humanity dies due to global warming.
-Ending with Predator suits looking straight out of Power Rangers.

I just saw a day ago, It was okay, not quite perfect enough for sure, he-he, but that’s just me, I was getting the impression of both a film was quite not perfect enough and a script that I read long ago was quite better in its concept. Though what I got the impression again from the film that it seems like it wants to jump into the action, it wants to get fast and pronto, if I’m getting myself wrong, but though I just thought the ending was just awful, what the heck were they thinking with reshooting it from the original script to the new ending.
Exactly. I wasn't even the biggest fan of the original ending from the script, but watching the movie again and hearing from sources who were at test screenings about the version which was filmed, i would gladly take it over the new ending. It goes to show you how late it must have got cut out and changed considering how trailers show so many parts of it, like McKenna and Nebraska riding on APC and one of the other vehicles from their convoy exploding. And you're right about too fast pacing. Maybe the movie would have been better and wouldn't get so much hate if they at least left rest of it alone and not cut it the fuck up to the point where it turned into huge mess.

That's hard to pick, honestly. I want to say Escape Plan 2...but this did have a Predator picking up a 'cut off' arm with a thumbs up on it...then showing it to a guard to fool him into thinking everything was ok...so it's hard to pick right now.
I wish they would just leave Predator alone along with The Alien franchise. AVPR sounds better than this garbage you described & AVPR was pretty mediocre. Shane Black hasn't had it since Lethal Weapon 2 & even then he nearly f'd that movie up cause he wanted to kill Martin Riggs off. I always liked that part on the subway it's my favorite scene where Bill Paxton stands his ground & is taken down by The Predator in that movie. Then there's the scene where Danny Glover confronts Gary Busey & reads him the right act also it's a damn shame that Thomas Jane was never given lead roles or a secondary role in any movies he's just given garbage I wish he'd get to play The Punisher again.
After reading all the comments, im hesitant to say i actually had fun seeing this one. Sure, it had alot of isdues but it was action driven and pretty funny at times. Sucks so many despise it because its direction is more towards gore and adult style humor.

I just recently got a dvd copy of Predator 2, havent seen it since debut at the theatre. I'll obviously enjoy it more as its untainted & more true to the original vision.

It was ahead of it's time in a lot of ways- it had a diverse cast before Hollywood made it a mandate and had a strong female character who was badass and they didn't need to use it as a marketing gimmick. It's slowly getting the respect it deserves.

Honestly this movie was butchered by the company, I heard Shane Black had a better plot in mind and it would have been great if the company didn't meddle in the film's production. Shane Black is partly to blame, but I mainly blame the studio company.
But Shane Black was responsible for the comedy...which is the biggest problem with this film.
I totally agree, don't get me wrong, I do think Shane can make good movies. But sadly this one was a very bad one, way too many jokes that are pretty much toilet humor at best, and just from watching the trailers, I knew this film would be one of those stupid fast paced movies, the original Predator movie and Predator 2 is way better than this film.
