August 1st, 2024 New Jersey/Delaware Bay Fishing Report with Jim Hutchinson, Jr.

The Hemingwayesque tale of Young Man and the Sea (25:55) leads off our weekly report in the New Jersey, Delaware Bay region this week, albeit at the end of our segment. But before breaking down the hoax that broke the internet, we turn the page on July, and tear open the freshly printed pages of the August edition of The Fisherman. A couple of fluke tournaments (3:25) going on this week, and surfcasters reporting fluke in the suds (7:15) on jerk baits which you'll learn more about in Jenni's "Open Boat" segment this week. A pending tilefish record (15:10) on the offshore grounds with updates on tilefish gear, with tips on snaring squid (18:10) as we wait with baited hooks in hopes of lightning striking twice at Seaside Lump. We've had multiple reports of cobia here at the Jersey Shore this season, but we highlight a pair of these big, aggressive fish (21:20) this week; just remember the regs, one per vessel and a 37-inch minimum size. George has your freshwater report (23:25) from the Poconos before we rip the lid off the "fake news" debate (25:55) and break down the timeline on the Nantucket sleigh-ride at Flynn's Knoll. It's the latest hoax to break social media, but what else has been broken in the process, and why should we as anglers care?

I was so exhausted hearing about that tin-boat tuna story, but leave it to Jimbo to make it interesting and entertaining while getting to the bottom of the whole story. Great reminders in that segment that apply to much more than fishing news too.
