I trained my own dogs and ran them in hunt tests and field trials. Watching the dogs around Charlie I can tell he is not an abusive trainer, the dogs don't shy away or sulk around him their all very happy to work for him. He is someone I would let train for me or buy a dog from. I can tell a big improvement with Fred especially his steadiness.

I trained my first retriever at age 14 after studying a book by ? Jack Lamb entitled "Training Your Retriever" back then there were no videotapes or DVD cassettes were new too and Betamax was still an idea.

That was awesome! Ive seen some of the brookstone videos and it's a ton of info. Loved how there was so much more fun and learning involved, Fred is in great hands, can't wait to see the work payoff.

Thats also why its a good idea to teach a dog to retrieve ny their name and to choose a short one syllable easy understood name for when they are working with one or more other dogs

Awesome video Fredrick is looking Good, and learning what he should. Hell of a trainer. I am very impressed with what he can do with a dog. Make the dog happy and it will work for you as long as you make it happy!!! It is all the same if you are fetching a ball or retrieving a downed bird. They want to have fun just like us!!! BW

Bobby I train labs and other gun dogs and I’m a super big fan. I think you should get a whistle and condition Fred to it. I see in a lot of your awesome duck hunts he will be out really far retrieving a duck and you have to yell here really loud to get him to come back. If you condition him to a whistle it will be 10x easier and will make your hunts even better. I beep the whistle one time for sit and 2 or 3 times for here it don’t matter for here as long as it’s multiple times. Just a little tip from a big fan🤙.

Great advice for young dogs I see alot of people pushing young dogs to fast at an early age
What are the things that you would absolutely need to begin training your dog? Are bumpers, shock collars, live pigeons all necessary? Obviously it would help to have all of these, but on a tight budget what can you get away with to get the most out of your dog?

My gsp loves the outdoors she runs like crazy but gets soo distracted with any little insect but she loves birds soo hopefully we can start with live pigeons soon shes 6 months already soo i want to get the live fire started with her

I bought a started dog as my first retriever but then I bought a pup and worked with them just as you were explaining as my second retriever and I have to say the pup I bought listened a little better but either way I enjoyed it
My golden retriever is 5 months old and is retrieving ducks great

@@KA-om9oz yea, I train my own dog. Takes this weird thing called effort. done his working certs and has a few titles; good enough for a hunting dog.

My second lab is at a trainer. Way worth it. Most of us don’t have time it takes to do it right.

Thanks, for the training video though. It's timed perfect because I just got a German shorthair pointer and because of you am going to train her to duck hunt. You got me interested and I jumped off the cliff. The whole family is excited for this adventure.

What does blazes pedigree look like? I run my dogs at AKC and UKC hunt test. And I have spent a pretty penny on pups but not a $3500 penny lol I’m just wondering what it looks like.

So, I have a 6 month old puppy, and he is crazy when it comes to play time. But, I don't know where to start. I also don't want to pay for a service that I don't know if I'll be able to follow or will work. What do I do? I want to get him trained within 6 months. What do I need to do?

Bobby make commands once or maybe twice any more lets him think you do not mean it . Sit should mean stay sitting till told otherwise. Praise for older trained dogs should be withheld until the retrieve is completed not on the way in etc (he didn't do good until retrieve is fully completed correctly) but I know its hard to make yourself do it that way.
Can you use a cap gun before the pup is 6 months old?
