This is awesome. Glad that had worked out so well. It is quite interesting the difference in sound from first introducing the queen to after they had become more acclimated with each other.
What I think is awesome is the fact that you picked up on the pitch change. It is one of the gauges I use to determine the temperament of the hive and the willingness of acceptance. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I was surprised myself at first. They're such amazing insects. They display a level of understanding you wouldn't necessarily think possible. Articulating their pleasure or displeasure in something in a way that is more human than it appears at first glance. Their lives are much more complicated than most give them credit for.
Thank you for your blessing and your very kind words Stephen, they are greatly appreciated. You are correct, I do love wrangling bees. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Good morning kind sir. This was the video I have been waiting to see. Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to just go do it. The gentleman that got me started in beekeeping died just less than a year after I started, so now you are my guidance. Thank you Mr. Ed.

Great job Mr Ed, It's usually pretty easy to tell if they want her but it's always a risk, as you pointed out if she's in a clip they can get to her so better if she's in a cage, the best method I've found is to make a push in cage out of hardware cloth (wire mesh) pressed in over a patch of emerging brood the new bees take to her automatically and she will commence laying, so far I've had 100% acceptance even in strong hot hives. When she's just sitting there she's aware that they aren't her bees and is being safe, if she were to run in it might provoke an attack so she'll wait until she feels safe before moving off. (Clever girl) when they are hopelessly queenless they'll usually accept them very quickly, I love adding queens like you did but it's not for the inexperienced to try as it could easily go wrong if they don't read the signs right. As you said tongues out licking and fanning Nasenov are good signs, gripping the cage and biting it are the opposite. 🙂 Sad beginning to the story but a great ending, I hope they make it through to the Spring for you 👍
No doubt a queen cage is NOT what you want to use to introduce a queen into a hive, but as the hive had been queenless for 4 days, those bees were desperate for a queen and knew there was no bargaining in the matter. Still there is always the possibility of things going south real quick which is why I was standing over them to intervene. I love the idea of pressing her over a patch of brood, what a great method, and I will put that idea in my book of tricks. I know I'll be feeding these girls through the winter, and if they make it, I will do an update on them. Thank you for your contribution Jeff. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Thanks so much for sharing your miraculous missions with us. I thought about these bees during the week. Hoping everything continues to work well for them.

I sure learned a lot by reading the description and listening to you, Mr. Ed! It was interesting and a wonder to behold! I get the sneaking suspicion that whoever was first, probably saw another animal attempt it first in the beginning of winter and hunger got the best of them to at least try it. What a surprise that must of been!
@@goodphrase1 That seems pretty unlikely ( that they were near the first ) Wild animals have been eating honey forever, it seems very hard to believe that a smart hunter gather didn't watch them and find out what the fuss was all about :). (and get stung )

Here in the Arizona desert, bees build hives out in the open...they hang them off limbs of trees and rock overhangs... Last summer here in Mesa, I was walking by the library and several big slabs of honeycomb fell out of a huge Ponderosa Pine tree. Missed me by a couple feet. Probably a gallon of honey anyway. I gathered up as much as I could and carried it home. Dee-lishus!
@@JeffHorchoff Several years ago I was hiking in the McDowell Mountain Park in the north part of Scottsdale. From a high rock overhang there were exposed sheets of honey comb. Probably six or eight running parallel. Hanging down three of four feet and maybe eight feet long. Possibly a foot thick. When they get too heavy, they fall off. Every year a couple hikers get killed by "Africanized" bees. Stung to death. You can hear them long before you see them, which is why I give them a wide berth. They are very territorial. I've never had a problem with bees. Sometimes in the spring you'll see a swarm flying across the desert floor in a long black cloud. Like a horizontal tornado. Likely looking for a new home. One trick to use if you do get chased by a swarm is to run and hold your breath as long as you can. Bees home in on the CO2 when you breath out. If they can't attack your face and eyes, they'll likely lose interest. Vaya Corn Tacos, amigo...
I just stumbled on bees on here. I have been watching a guy remove bees. I am hooked on watching this stuff. I couldn't have one I am highly allergic to any bees, wasps, hornets, you name a bee I got 20 minutes to get to ER. Played around 1 to many hives as a kid.

Ahhh at 7:37 there's a poor bee flat on its back looking very dead..what will the other bees do, do they clean it up. .what a lovely Queen, lucky bee getting fed like that, so interesting. Hope she's ok
Unfortunately, there were a lot of dead bees on this removal due to the fact that many of the robber bees had been vacuumed along with the hive bees. You are correct, the bees will clean up the area and there will be no evidence of the death shortly. As it turned out, everything worked out OK and the queen and bees are doing well for now, lets just hope they can make it through the winter. Thank you for this video. I'm planning on building three Warre hives this spring and hopefully populating all three of them. Mr.Ed Wouldn’t you want to know why her previous hive absconded with out her before deciding on place her in your yard? I’m new and this is just a question from a cautious learner. God bless the work that you do. I love watching you and the Dirt Rooster
Great video, and wonderful news that you managed to find a queen for this hive. I hope theyre doin well! Possibly a stupid question but, what would happen to the hive without a queen? Would they survive? Would they raise a new queen? Such an intricate and fascinating system they have, I really had no idea I would find these videos so interesting! I can see why you love what you do. 💛🖤💛🖤
If a hive does not have a queen it will perish. However, if there are eggs young enough in the hive, the bees can make another queen from it. So glad you are watching and asking questions. Till the next time, God's peace. Mr. Ed
Jeff Horchoff Bees - thanks so much for your response. I wonder if I can trouble you with one more question...? I moved into a new home last summer, and noticed what I believe are bees living around my home (possibly in the roof) - and it seems this summer they are back. I just wondered what happens during winter, do they generally survive? I always thought that they would only have the same nest site/hive for one year... I think this is different for honey bees, so can you tell me what will happen to them during the cold winter months? Many thanks for your time. Your approach towards bee keeping and your videos have really sparked my interest!
During the winter, the number of bees in the hive is greatly reduced, this is a survival trait. Then, once things start blooming again, the bees start reproducing and the hive starts growing. Many folks think the hive died over winter, and that does happen, but most often, the hive starts growing again. I'm delighted your interest is sparked, next thing you will be asking me is where can you buy bees from. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Jeff Horchoff Bees - haha there are plenty of bees for me to deal with at the moment so no need to acquire any more just yet! But I am very grateful for your input and will be watching “my” bees, and yours, with interest over the coming months. Thanks again, I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around! ☺️👍🏼❤️

It's wonderful to hear the excitement in your voice as you work wit the bees it's obvious you love what you do. God bless you sir.

Good morning kind sir. This was the video I have been waiting to see. Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to just go do it. The gentleman that got me started in beekeeping died just less than a year after I started, so now you are my guidance. Thank you Mr. Ed.

@@JeffHorchoff well I know I will.
Great job Mr Ed,
It's usually pretty easy to tell if they want her but it's always a risk, as you pointed out if she's in a clip they can get to her so better if she's in a cage, the best method I've found is to make a push in cage out of hardware cloth (wire mesh) pressed in over a patch of emerging brood the new bees take to her automatically and she will commence laying, so far I've had 100% acceptance even in strong hot hives.
When she's just sitting there she's aware that they aren't her bees and is being safe, if she were to run in it might provoke an attack so she'll wait until she feels safe before moving off. (Clever girl)
when they are hopelessly queenless they'll usually accept them very quickly, I love adding queens like you did but it's not for the inexperienced to try as it could easily go wrong if they don't read the signs right.
As you said tongues out licking and fanning Nasenov are good signs, gripping the cage and biting it are the opposite. 🙂
Sad beginning to the story but a great ending, I hope they make it through to the Spring for you 👍
No doubt a queen cage is NOT what you want to use to introduce a queen into a hive, but as the hive had been queenless for 4 days, those bees were desperate for a queen and knew there was no bargaining in the matter.

I get the sneaking suspicion that whoever was first, probably saw another animal attempt it first in the beginning of winter and hunger got the best of them to at least try it. What a surprise that must of been!

Well we know Moses from the Bible ate locust and wild honey. So not sure if he was the first, but he was one of the first for sure!

Dee-lishus!
What a great story. That is the most unique way of harvesting honey I have ever heard. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed

For me, the challenge would bee finding a queen bumble bee, those girls are plain mean., and have no problems attacking you. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Wow they really take good care of their queen!
Once they accept the queen, they will give their lives for her. God's peace B.

Nice beard action 😊. Mama’s home. Bzzzzz 🐝. cool video Jeff. Have a blessed thanksgiving.
When that cold weather strikes, I'll bee ready. It was very interesting noticing the difference of the sound of the bees from the beginning to when I came back to release her, they are such interesting creatures. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones Jerome. God's peace.
Mr. Ed

Wouldn’t you want to know why her previous hive absconded with out her before deciding on place her in your yard?

For those's that don't know 5:21 Those are your construction bees Dangling> Don't mess with em. It's a must to have construction bees> this is what make a hive grow, Only way to keep them is KEEP THEM WORKING by blank frames with starter strips to keep them producing comb. BEES SUPPOSE TO MAKE COMB this is why i hate cell rite HAPPY HOLIDAYS MY FRIEND
There has to be every job description filled in the hive in order for it to make it. Till next time, thanks for watching, and Happy Thanksgiving! God's peace.
Mr. Ed
yep when the system fails. the hive fails
