You don’t have to worry about watching the return of cooler until about episode 54ish. In abridged (and canon), there’s a ‘break’ from the action where the abridged movies take place. On a side note, once Cell is introduced, the show becomes 10x better because the writing for him is phenomenal

TFS' introduction to Cell was absolutely peak writing. It's legitimately terrifying.
Which I thought was great, in comparison to the actual show. Granted Cell was canonically creepy, I feel like that aspect of his character was heavily undermined by the show's overall tone, and writing. Which TFS rectified by making the horror aspects of Cell work much better by putting more emphasis on them.

Cell is so good. They do him such justice in this series. This episode starts the “peak” of DBZA.
It does get really good but tbh all of season 3 is amazing

in regard to watching Super.... hmmm DBZa is already a different thing than the actual DBZ. I can rewatch DBZA till infinity, I won't mind rewatching DBZ (with some necessary skipping). I have no desire to rewatch Super, and I would recommend watching DBZ au natural first before diving into it.
Actual original Dragon Ball is something way to many people sleep over, and especially the later half is in my opinion the best the Dragonball franchise has to offer (although arguably DBZA, especially season 3, might be higher up).

One of my favorite things that Team Four Star did was give Nail and Kami voices in Piccolo’s head. In the original show, Piccolo just fused them to increase his power level, treating them little more than glorified power-ups. But the Abridged series treats them as characters while also giving Piccolo, a stoic warrior who often stays quiet, two people to converse with in his head. It’s a brilliant adaptation that I wish the original show did as well.
Dbs showed they still exist in some manner during the ToP but it would be interesting if they had voices
If you where headphones, you might also notice Piccolo's voice is in stereo, while Kami's and Nail's voice have one of the channels.
@@Tuning3434unfortunately even with headphones you might not notice that anymore, seems to be blended together now because of technology rather than one in each ear unless you have older headphones.
Either way, I like that he talks to them. It's a fun relationship and makes things interesting
Loving the makeup and.. uh.. fan service. These are some great episodes. Wish I could go back in time to watch this over again for the first time. But yeah cell is a fantastic character and yes, you’ll see plenty of 16. His time to shine is yet to come.

No matter how many times I rewatch DBZA, and no matter how desensitized I become to its jokes, that line from Vegeta gets me every time.

Yes, the Namekians can create Dragon Balls. There's a whole process to it and objects involved and what have you, but they'll actually go into a bit more detail on how that works in future episodes. :3
Oh, more than that: with Kami and Nail both in his head now, starting in one or two more episodes/specials, one will be in the left side of your headphones, and the other in the right side. I don't remember who goes where offhand, but it's one of many little things TFS did that made the show orders of magnitude better.

That reaction to the first thing you see after the intro to 43...priceless. Best reaction I've seen yet to it. And everyone always has the same reaction, but your reaction captures that energy better than any other I've seen.
Congratulations! You'll want to do the frame by frame thing every time there's another Solar Flare for the rest of the show now, TFS had...maybe a little too much fun with those. But yes, you've officially met Cell! And I cannot wait for the next couple of episodes. 44 is going to have another amazing Vegeta quote. One that's on the shirt I'm wearing today! :P

Fun fact about the gross scene of the guy melting: The original English dub back in the day was usually censored and cut out all of the blood so it could air on Cartoon Network without Standards and Practices getting pissy.
They didn't cut out any of that, though. The most gruesome scene in the entire franchise.
So according to someone who interviewed Toriyama, he really really liked the way TFS had Nail and Kami in Piccolo’s head after fusing and he wished he’d thought of the idea himself

According to Taka, his voice for Cell was inspired by Beetlejuice, Zorak (Space Ghost), and the Wishmaster, along with the original dub’s performance for Cell. It’s… perfect.

A neat little detail you might have noticed since you had headphones is that Nail's dialogue is heard through the left side and Kami's through the right

1:05 Nope, you really don't. Aside from Super being its own can of worms, TFS never did Abridged for the Buu saga of Z, so that's material you'd be skipping.

18:37 So Toriyama's editor hated Dr. Gero for being so old, then he hated the androids for the opposite, saying that now it's just some kids. Now there's Cell and he hated this bug too. He basically said: "Well, at least he can transform, right?". Oh, and Cell is every animator's worst nightmare, keeping all those spots in check. Pretty sure even Toriyama regretted the design, which is why you never see anything this intricate ever again.

Actually ☝🤓 it was Toriyama's former editor (Torishima) telling him 19 and 20 (and then 17 and 18) were too silly on the phone after reading the chapter, if his actual editor at the time had disaproved the designs, 19 and 20 would look completely different and we probably would never get 17 and 18.
Toriyama just trusted the guy so much, as he saved his career and was his editor from Dr. Slump to Dragon Ball's 23th Tenkaichi Budokai arc.
But his actual editor (Yu Kondo) really suggested Cell to transform into a "Freeza-looking" character because they were getting complaints about him being too scary.
This Solar Flare is more tame then the rest.

You'll indeed see, and in turn, hear more of 16. In fact, he slowly became KaiserNeko's (1 of the Writers, Co-founder, Voice of Trunks and sole Editor of DBZA) favorite Character to write.
So the thing about the Namekians making Dragon Balls is that there are two clans. One is the warrior clan, like Nail. While the other is the dragon clan, like Dende. One punches people and the other makes Dragon Balls.
Great googly moogly that's a cute outfit! Also Cell is the best antagonist in abridged.
One of the better jokes here is Cell correctly pronouncing "Makankosappo" (translation: Demonic Light Piercing Murder Gun). Piccolo can't ever say it right, so Kami says "So *that's* how you pronounce it".
And Cell's creepy as f✓©k rendition of Mr. Sandman was *perfect.* Takahata singing that *in character* is great. He and Lanipator are good at doing just that. And just like a certain other green supervillain voiced by Taka, he has an *impeccable* singing voice!

The Cell Saga is an interesting beast. Toriama originally intended for Gero and Clown to be the primary Villains. His Editor didn't like that, so he Killed them off and came up with 16, 17 and 18. His Editor didn't like them either because they didn't look threatening enough so he then came up with Cell.
What started out as an editorial nightmare for Toriama turned into an interesting Situation where things in-universe just spiralled out of control for Goku and the gang as one Big Bad after the other gets introduced, everytime stronger than the last one.

This arc is why some ppl actually prefer this to the original. Its like we get tuenexact same characters but purely their subconscious. Everything was done so well in this arc. You're really gonna love it all the way through.
When I was a kid, I stumbled across DBZ when I was visiting my grandparents one weekend, and the episode they were showing was Cell's introduction. The episodes that I saw were haunting and yet amazing. I could predict everything that would happen, but that didn't take away from the amazing scene. TFS did Cell perfectly.

It was the end of Supernatural season 5 where Castiel said "Hey, assbutt!" Which came out in 2010, this episode came out in 2014, so yes it's very possible that T4S stole this from Supernatural. It's also not a particularly creative joke, so the possibility of 2 different people coming up with it not out of the question.
Remember from now on. Everytime the taiyoken/ solar flare is used there is a hidden pause moment
Additional Info on Cell:
When he absorbs people, he gains their Power Level. While people give around 2-5 units of Power Level he, as you can see, munches on hundreds of people. Over time, and a lot of emptied cities, he is going to be huge danger.
Then there is his way to become "Perfect". What ever that is and how he gains it.

Roshi has spent his very long *life* at "too far," and only came back to tell us what it's like...
First, compliments on the wardrobe. Good look for you. Second, it would be very hard for 3 Super Saiyans to take on the Androids considering that the 1st one was at home fighting off a heart disease lol.
Fun fact: The voice actor used Beetlejuice and Wish Master for the inspiration for Cell's voice and demeanor, and something else I'm probably forgetting. I mention that to explain stuff like the Sandman bit. Goes a long way to explain his...eccentricates.
And yes, he did say "Ow, my ass-butt!" He's a great combination of disturbing and hilarious.
Just right off the bat before I watch this, if you miss any of the movies/specials it's typically not part of the main story so you're not missing any key parts, but they're worth the watch if you're a fan of either TFS' comedy style, DBZ, or both haha

You’ll never understand how terrifying this was in the actual series. Just hearing about all these characters supposedly at Gingertown including Frieza, Vegeta, and somehow even Goku without seeing what was happening was genuinely chilling. Then when we saw Cell using the signature moves of the Z Fighters not knowing who or what he was man it was tense. Especially since we didn’t learn the truth for 2 more episodes.
TFS wanted to make Cell as creepy as possible. And it worked... WELL...
"Huh, faster than me...That could be a slight pain in my ass....But-" *gets kicked* "AGH MY ASS-BUTT"

Holy Crap I've been a fan of both Supernatural and Abridged since both of when they began and I never noticed that assbutt reference until you pointed it out !
In that intro scene for Cell in the series, the guy he absorbs doesn’t make any sound at all, which in a way is worse! It’s one thing to hear the life force being drained away, it’s another entirely that the guy can’t scream!
She had the same initial reaction to Cell that I had as a kid.

I like the shifting volume of the video being watched. Most reactors I've seen either have the content's audio way too low so you can't hear it, or way too high so you can barely hear the reactor over it when they're talking. This is a much better way of doing it.

Okay so I feel the need to add context here. Both Krillin and Goku were raised, from childhood, by Master Roshi. And we both know Master Roshi... is Master Roshi even in canon. So it's cool the abridged series acknowledged that Roshi rubbed off on Krillin a little bit. Not so much on Goku since Goku gets off on fighting.
Krillen was like that even before, which is HOW he got Roshi to take him in the first place. (he bribed him with his porn stash, and since Roshi trusted krillen's tastes in women he sent him with Goku to make sure he brought back a solid option this time, since Goku has no idea what to look for).

Cell is sadly the big finale of the Abridged series, although Four Star did come together to give a super cut down version of the Buu Saga not long ago. As for the Cooler movie, I don't think it's really important, but it does put a final cap on Freeza's family, and those loose ends. I don't know why, but Dragon Ball has always had an issue with making the movies properly fit in with the rest of cannon, which is why they are often seen as just extras if one is interested. The Super movies I think have been more of a test on what people like, and dislike about the story they are working on next, before implementing a longer finished draft of it into the show. Also can reuse some key shots and make the show easier to finish on less money. Kind of smart, and makes for a better finished project.

Yep Namekians are the entire reason for Dragon balls existing on earth. If Kami never came to earth they would of never gotten dragon balls. But only specific clans of their race are able to make them. I forget why Piccolo couldn't make them seeing as him and Kami were the same person.....I think Gohan makes a comment about it later lol....
the evil King Piccolo was dragon clan, but when Piccolo jr. (our slug man) was born, he was born as a warrior clan namekian

this (dubiously canon) game trivia implies that a dragon namekian can still produce warrior namekians
some other comment said something about King wanting his reincarnation to be strong enough to get revenge or something, so it may be that that's the in-universe explanation for that
then again, the namekians were demons before the Z retcon, and we can't ask the author unless someone finds the dragon balls

I remember hearing that the frame of Cell draining that guy was removed for the English dub, which I think was a good choice. It's absolutely disgusting
none of the movies are cannon, but some of the things in them mostly transformations were made cannon later in super. i will say the original makes that drinking guy part much more horrifying as the music used adds to it
All the movies are in their own canon so you can totally watch all of them after you get done with the Abridged Series
The movies while not cannon to the main story, are still worth the watch

You can Cell dialog is a combination of all the named characters verbal ticks and catchphrases here I caught vegeta krillin and Frieza when he was monologuing
Namekians from the dragon clan can just make them yes. That's their special ability. Somehow Piccolo isn't from the dragon clan even though he's originally the same person as Kami (maybe because he's the part of him that sought out combat and destruction) so if Piccolo is the main body, the dragon balls can't exist until someone else come and make them. And Piccolo/Kami are stronger if Piccolo is the main body so they can't do it the other way around.
Yes, Namekians make Dragonballs. Kami made Earth's and Guru made Namek's (and now his replacement) 16:35 . That's why they stopped working when Guru died.
And the earth ones stopped working when Piccolo/Kami died
