The guy's pistol (along with most airsoft pistols) relies on what's called a gas blowback system. Basically, the mags have reservoirs of compressed gas (usually propane) with valves to release it to cycle the action of the gun. It's good for realism since it functions similar to the real thing, if you can find a gas blowback that isn't too finicky.

Speed of the bbs varies from 300fps to 500 fps depending on the field and model of the gun. Usually snipers are allowed bolt action at 500 fps and everyone else is set at 300 or 400.
Guns can be spring powered (a piston), electronically powered (also a piston) or use HPA tanks/12 grams of co2/green gas as a propellant. I believe alfons uses hpa? But he has messed around with higher end electronic guns.
The grenades vary. Some send bb's others just bang and its up to players to call themselves out. There are others that just explode and are made of soft foam.
The stuff on the front of the guns are either decorative mock suppressors or tracer units, which us UV light flashes to cause special bb's to glow so you can trace your shots.
Most people don't actively use their sights tbh. You can see bb's and just track your shots it's a lot of reflexive shooting and adjustment. Especially speed soft so cqb, its faster to just shoot. Mil sim and out doors you can and good players will use optics in many situations. I do for woods but never for speedsoft.
Range is dependent on the weight of the bb (ranges from .2 to .5g typically) speed youre shooting at and the hop up setting. Hop up puts backspin on bbs so they get more loft. More distance less accurate. Its adjustable usually found in the breech of the gun.

4 types of grenades, pyro that throw bbs like Alfonse uses, audio (technically a pyro that doesn’t have bbs) that have a 15m kill radius, co2 that use those mini canisters to throw the bbs, and electric that spin out 400ish bbs after they strike the ground. The electric are still pretty new and I think the company that makes them haven’t released them publicly yet.

Airsoft guns are usually divided by their power source: electricity, gas, or springs. Electricity is most typically used for rapid fire like assault rifles, MGs, submachine guns, etc. Springs are more often used for things like bolt action sniper rifles. Gas is most often used for pistols or very expensive sniper rifles.

The grenades are similar to what we'd call a 'thunderflash' in the UK. Sometimes called a a 'battle noise simulator'. Fraction of the power of an M80 (think that was the notorious firework in the US)...it's normally taken on honour that a 'bang' has a kill radius of 5-10m or kills everything in a room unless you're behind something solid.
There are some grenades that contain gas and can be filled with BBs, gas discharge spits BBs and spins the thing around (Airsoft Innovations)
The specific brand of bangs in this appears to be TaggIn (they also do 40mm UGL rounds for Airsoft). TLSFX of the UK also supply pyro state side when the alphabets aren't being a nuisance.

Now for airsoft, you need to account that not all types of games and players will make sense in “real life” like scenarios. A lot of events are more “video game” like type. But it’s good dry fire training and individual technique training. Against real life targets that react in various ways.

In terms of rifles, the most popular kind are the AEGs, which are battery operated and fire on average 390-410 fps. You can also get sniper rifles which use springs and on average fire anywhere from 450-510 fps. The most popular kind of pistol is the GBB (Gas Blow-Back) which uses little CO2 cartridges or a built-in green-gas storage space to propel the slide to the rear to rack another round, to propel the round and also to make the pistol a little more realistic. Most often you'll find that these fire at 310-390 fps. Awesome video guys and hello from Canada, where airsoft is in the process of getting eliminated.

The guns that go "zip-zip" are electrically-powered, where a motor runs a gearbox, which drives the primary air piston back against a spring, and releases the piston to propel the shot downrange.
The guns that go "pop-pop", like the pistols, are powered by compressed gas in the magazine. Once the BB leaves the barrel, the change in backpressure flips a valve and directs the gas into the blowback mechanism, which cycles the gun.

So your question about the grenades. Some are bangers & you simply put different size caps inside & throw the grenade for different size bangs. I’ve got the “Tectonic Innovatins Quake 8” grenade which can hold multiple caps so you can use it over & over before reloading it, you just switch the dial & the next cap gets loaded into the chamber & throw it again (like the guy in the video you watched) There are other grenades which fire out bbs in 360* spin so you throw it in a room & it’ll throw bbs everywhere, like 150+ bbs lol but then you need to refill the gas chamber & re fill the bbs, both of which cost more than just using the caps.. Both these grenades options count as a kill within 10-15m in open space or counts as a kill if someone is within the room it went off in or if a bb hits you etc.. Hoe that helps answer a few questions 👍🏼

To answer the questions about the weapons used. Both players were using custom built rifles powered by a gearbox run by a battery that shoots the projectile out using air from a piston. You can reach out and touch someone easily from 150feet, depending on the spin of the pellet, probably farther. The mags typically hold 120 rounds or more with the newer ones.
There’s another type that runs on gas and those will give you some form of recoil. Those can run closer to firearms in round count and function. (Bolt locks back, need to chamber new round) I use this kind when I run and clear shoot houses with my squad for work. It’s a lot cheaper than simunitions... just kicks nowhere near as hard without modifications to the device. Bangers, some explode and throw projectiles everywhere, some are just loud, we even have some that use 12 gauge shotgun primers (need ear pro)
Milsimwest and Evike would both be interested and probably more than willing to help you out. Good luck guys

The guns have motors in the grip, the lower receiver has a gearbox and the upper has a spring, piston and cylinder.
Pulling the trigger activates the motor, the gearbox pulls the spring and piston back and then releases the piston forcing air through the cylinder forcing the bb out. The first video uses a high torque motor to help with range, the second video uses a high speed motor for fast rate of fire. There's a ton of different ways to set these things up for how you want the gun to behave.

To answer some of your questions: the grenades are either just a co2 bang, but they also have ones that load with bb’s. And satchels, and trip mines that all throw about 300bbs in every direction. The ones that go bang are respected as frags too. Flash bangs generally aren’t allowed. There are special bazookas and vehicle events, mortars, rockets, and you should check out “gas blow back” rifles that use propane instead of batteries running a pump. Gives a nice little recoil similar to a small caliber rifle and sounds intimidating as hell.

Loads of ex military do it, most airsofters just accept people and have fun. Most games I've gone to guys have singled out great shooters and said well done after the game. Alfonse is using a TM SCAR-H recoil shock. Simulates recoil, also requires that you hit the bolt catch or rack the bolt to continue firing. There are even other guns that use Green gas (mixture of Propane and Silicon Oil) that work the closest to real firearms. Though, like the Recoil Shock series, very expensive.
The grenades he was using are pyrotechnic ones. There are some that function like flashbangs, the are others that explode and launch bbs all over the place (like TAGGIN grenades they even got M67 pyro grenades). There are also reusable grenades that use green gas an saturate an area with a shower of BBs also. All and all, it's super fun.

The 2 most common types of airsoft guns are Automatic Electric Gun (AEG) and Gas Blow Back (GBB). AEG's use a battery to power an elector motor which launches the BB's while GBB uses gas to launch the BB's. AEG's now a days also have a function to recreate recoil, of course not as intense as a real firearm but a little bit of a kick when firing to create realism. GBB's always had recoil simply due to the gas pressure and also sound bit "more" real. All the guns in the video clips are AEG's, making the little whisp noise when firing. GBB's have a little more "blast" type of sound. The Glock that guy used in the first clip is a GBB.
The grenades they are throwing are gas powered and are usually filled with anywhere between 10-100 BB's. When they pull the pin and throw, all the BB's inside will be launched out 360 degrees, clearing the room.

Some are overly lax and just chill and others are over the top serious events. Think in NC there is a Black Hawk Down event for Airsoft and such and there are teams who do full tactical events between two sponsored teams. I love playing it and would absolutely do it again.
