Funky Techno I believe we used to call this.. Good job for those recognising all these tracks from a time where a lot of records sounded the same. They're more like DJ tools than records you'd play from start to finish. The best ones were actually made before Y2K.

this is the first time watching this series where i could name more than half the records... these were my jam back in the day, so many memories unlocked thank you...
I didn't recognize any of the tracks or any of the participants and was just confronted with “hardgroove” as a style for the first time, and yet, or maybe because of that, I think this is one of, if not the most entertaining format on all of youtube. All thumbs up!

I had Ben Sims - Manipulated in my mind for years and could not find it. They played it so often back then. I was so exited when I heard th fist seconds. Such a relief!
nice! have quite a few of the tracks. Interesting people are confused by the term Hardgroove. I remember the term appearing in the UK in the late 90's, while Tribal Techno was the more common description in Europe. BUUUT by the late 00's there was a new smaller set of DJ's playing fast funky techno they called 'Hardgroove' in Europe. That was kind of a second wave, and we're on the third wave currently. We also called it loop techno sometimes in the early days. Ultimately It's all just techno.
Fack never knew hardgroove was my jam, tomaz vs the filterheadz, dj preach, ben sims, adam beyer, deetron. My gawd i miss those days. Always thought it was techno, but i was a little kid when they were bangers. 🎉❤
I was just coincidentally looking for some Hardgroove releases and I managed to stumble upon this, tysm for publishing this video, its very helpful for looking for new music. 🙏
These blind tests are so much fun to watch, even if this is not my favorite genre - so thanks for this entertaining episode. At least i knew one track, so that's not too bad. ;)

proper solid tool-orientied techno. plenty of that in my box. still a little puzzled why there's so much fuzz and hype around it and how that 'hardgroove' re-branding as a style actually went down considering it was only the name for a label name in the beginning... but well, if that rebranding helps to bring some proper vibes back it's all good.
I've always enjoyed this sound but never knew that the subgenre had a name. It's like techno with some sounds from funky house - kind if the opposite of tech house which seems to be house with techno sounds
In sum - back in the day it was released no bugger out there (except for maybe Ben Sims apparently) seemingly called it 'Hardgroove'. The title of this vid is a nonsense regardless.
@@PhatInAHat Back then, it was Funky Techno and Tribal Techno, maybe even Tech House in examples like Oxia (before Tech House got usurped by Minimal), or something like Housy Techno. Oh damn Hermoso on round 9? That's just straight up schranz, didn't expect that on this genre. Albeit it's the tribal mellow mix and not the hard version
well I certainly recognised the bens sims manipulated adam beyer remix what a classic and on gold vinyl. Plus killer productions reminded me of a jeff miils purpose maker track :)
