So many great musicians paid respect to Prince 💜. When Eric Clapton does it. Its the ultimate 🥏 respect. I'm the biggest Prince 💜 fan on the planet 🌍. This made me so emotional 😭
The three major greats...."Beck, Clapton and Page" that almost every rock guitarist speaks of as influences finally lost one of the giants, Jeff Beck, but we still have the other two!!! Clapton is as brilliant as ever in this performance, paying tribute to THE most talented artist PRINCE!!!! Rip Prince and Beck. Keep on keepin' on Slowhand!!!
IN FOREVER MEMORY OF PRINCE..THANK YOU CLAPTON FOR HIS HONOR AND TRIBUTE..!! ONE OF A KIND..PRINCE IS IN THE HEAVENS SMILING UPON US ALL..FOREVER LOVED AND MISSED..R.I.P PRINCE..
Che meraviglia!! L’assolo mi ha fatto sgorgare lacrime e poi .. solo la musica ,il mito vivente e quello non. Siamo fortunati a poter ancora godere di questi artisti !!💜
A very good version it really compares to the original by its owner Prince so many artists disappeared at the top of their art Prince is one of them Thanks God we are left with their eternal hits I remember when I was engaged to my wife we used to play the movie purple rain starring Prince towards the end of the movie when we arrived at the song hit we played it over and over we never got tired of it It brings so many memories now I'm getting older with heart sickness how I wish those days were back again
When asked how it felt to be the world's best guitar player, Clapton replied:" no idea, why don't you ask Prince?". If this is true (you never know) it's a praise to Clapton's personality and to Prince's always underestimated guitar talent. Two wonderful artists and last of their kind unfortunately.
also heard this about Alex Lifeson....Eddie Van Halen and Eric Johnson....oh and SRV....all gods...probably missing a couple others...Roy Clark...Atkins...I could go on....Blackmore......Knoffler,,,,Slash...Edge....ok..I'll stop now....oh yeah...Leo Kottke...making good guitar players feel badly about themselves since 1972....ok,,,,i'm done....until I think about it some more....;-}
He set the first snare hit at the right place but after there should be a short pause, than a roll (piano to forte) before the straight rhythm and not a fill in like this drummer does! Makes the song more interesting and with tension what fit very good to the style Prince played it. Otherwise the fill in fits better to the way Mr. Clapton plays it. Hard to explain - Clapton plays more like in a flow. Prince brought more tension and dynamic in it what I prefer.
Someone said he thought the drummer was slacking. IDK about that but Nathan East is on bass and he's either really tired or about at the point where he's phoning this one in. Granted, Purple Rain isn't some slap-happy tour de force for the bass.
Not sure what to think... I definitely appreciate Clapton's attempt (and literally worship his outstanding career) but maybe this song does not fit his style. Let me explain: when Prince recorded this song, he was 25 or 26 and he wasn't half of the half of the guitar player that he would become in his mature age (you all remember him blowing the stage up in 'while my guitar gently weeps', I assume). But still, he was much better than this. This is strange. Anyhoo, well done Clapton, a tribute is always remarkable!!!
Now to compare covers go watch Prince cover while my Guitar Gently Weeps. I think Prince roasted 'ol Eric in guitar performance. There is nobody like him. Modern day Hendrix.
@@loucifer4205 Yeah only been playing 40yrs. Now lets be honest. Clapton was a bag of dicks. Just listen to Allman blow his doors off in Layla. Had to bury him in the mix so it didn't take away from Crapton. Go sit down.
eric clapton is god, not. why? eric...purple rain? sure we all can understand why its a great song full of intimate emotion and soaring highs. ive never seen purple rain performed so flat and lifeless before. if your performing purple rain to an audience you have to at least try and bring it. forget about trying to out perform Prince you wont come close, and those 6in. stiletto boots are too big to fill. its all in the song itself, those 4chords when struck simply bleed with emotion. plus. if Prince were to cover Layla, arguably claptons greatest song, u better believe Prince will make it his own.
errrrr kinda think it's a tribute to Prince courtesy of Eric....of course it isn't Prince....it's one talented musician honouring another...but some people don't see this....

You felt was even better than you. How humbling and a blessing that its
Eric Clapton does such an amazing rendition of Purple Rain. I cried
Professional lament for a uncomparable poet now reposed, this song will live for ever and ever.
Great tribute to a great man and genius in our lfitetime. The whole band was integral to this--and the audience too. A fantastic wonderful moment.

This has a great feel. Guitar is like the spirit of the song as performed by Prince’s band. Terrific.
Eric was asked in an interview what it’s like being the best guitarist in the world…… he replied I don’t know … go and ask Prince .
Not true
Eddie vH was asked and answered: go and ask Steve Lukather. That's the true story
Best cover of this song ever

Yes this is very good. I miss our guy and still have a hard time speaking of him
After all these years he has still got it , one of the best guitar players ever
And one of the best singers ever but shurley one of the best performers ever, since decades.
No bigger compliment than to have slow hand himself learn your song. Amazing as expected.

In my opinion the best performance of this song is by Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street-Band - Nils' guitar is really awesome!!!

I love Eric Clapton and thought he did an alright job on this song, but Purple Rain was Prince's song and he did better.
Eric obviously was not trying to out do Prince. He was honoring Prince for the world to see.
@@tommyd688 That's probably what Eric did. That would be like him to do that. .

Good job EC but Prince does it best!
