And, he is self-taught. A remarkable talent. There are only a handful of musicians that can turn me inside out on certain arrangements they play of familiar songs. This is, of course, one. It has been said to play at this level a musician must have the "fire in the belly." The following have surpassed that level...to a raging inferno, in my opinion:
Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee, Prince, Mike Campbell, Carlos Santana, Derek Trucks (although considerably younger, immensely talented), Joe Walsh, Tim Carmen (keyboardist for Clapton), Denmont Tench. There are no doubt more, but these all immediately come to mind.

I've seen him maybe 6 times, including first time, 6 July 1974. He mentions that show in his auto-biography. Patty Boyd Harrison joined him finally at this show. He had too much alcohol, I was right up front, roughly in the first 10 people into Rich Stadium in Buffalo. He fell down, and could not finish show. I was 10th person in to Rich Stadium Buffalo. Considered his worst show ever. Every other time was great! I always wondered how he could play Sunshine of your Love and other hit songs so many times and still sound great. Love him, major influence on me.

I'm of the opinion that Eric does far better in front of an audience in a live setting than he does in even the best of studio settings... every live song I've heard from him has far more passion, flair, feel, mood, fun, voice, and damn near everything else, than even the best studio albums I've sampled on premium Bose systems and even custom high end systems.
I love his live stuff. I wish this man would live forever and be able to forever perform these live shows for people.

In an old interview he sad something about his soloing basically being him singing with the guitar. Some of it must have gone both ways, because I can't decide which is best: his voice or his playing. 😁

Absolutely loving these comments about the Maestro that is the Great Eric Clapton! When Eric does not look at what he is playing plus looses himself in a zone that is completely his own.. is what I love so much about him.. he feels his way through his playing .. it’s extraordinary as I have not seen this from anyone but Eric! Every time Eric plays is a Miracle of Mastery for myself .. I admit that I cry the moment he walks on stage .. due to his stage presence plus control constantly! I cannot even remember how many times I have seen him play all over the world .. however there is no possibility of being disappointed ever ! That beauty of a guitar is my favourite colour too! His hair is beautiful long! Eric you have it plus so much more! I often wonder if you realise how phenomenal you are? There is no genre that you cannot play! Gd Bless you 4 Eva 🙏❤️🙏

Magnificent. A friend just commented on one of my music videos, complimenting me on my guitar playing. I told him, "I'm very aware of how inadequate my playing is, especially when I meet or hear what I call, 'real guitarists'. But I'm finally getting good enough to be able to really enjoy it and express myself, and to fool most people into thinking that I know what I'm doing." Clapton is fooling no-one - he's a God.

Ive been listening to Claptons genius since the late 60s thanks to my parents, going to see him since the late 70s, and its STILL boggles.my mind how he does what he does. He truly is a Pure Channel. The.man lets his entire Soul sing thru that guitar. Truly amazing ✌

One of his best songs. On the dvd "24 Nights", he does a version of this song that stops me in my tracks EVERY time I watch/hear it. His solos on that live version are AMAZING. The whole dvd is him at his best.

I flew to London and saw him at the Royal Albert Hall this past May 2019. He is just as great as ever! It was the absolute event of my life! I am still paying for that trip and it was worth every penny!! Would do it again in a heartbeat. I tried my best to get to Las Vegas to see him this month but couldn't pull it off! There is not now, nor will there ever be anyone as talented, and heartfelt of his performances as Mr. Clapton! I thank him for still performing for us, and hope he continues to for as long as possible! Thank you again Mr. Clapton!!!!
