Holy shit this was great! Back in College in 1990 or 91 I worked security at a Van Halen concert at my universities large indoor arena. During pre-show sound check I was in the barricade area in front of the stage watching Eddie play and we made eye contact. I smiled and gave him a goofy thumbs up. He laughed and motioned me over. He reached in his pocket and offered me a cigarette. I didn't smoke bit I wasn't going to turn down a cigarette a music legend. I smoked the cig and had a few words with Eddie and he gave me a guitar pick which I still have. It was great night and great show.

Jaw on the floor... WTF? Stupendous! This was so tight, nobody is going to believe this was LIVE... Tib, holy crap - this Sammy lead requires swagger and a bit of over-the-top approach - SPOT ON! INCREDIBLE vocals, extremely tough to do this live. The one-and-only Tzan, world class guitarist, nailing the EVH lead guitar part. Michael slamming the drums, Crafty keeping us in rhythm, and Damien laying down the bass groove. Take all that and wrap it with Darren evoking the PERFECT Oberheim sawtooth and editing the perfect audio - this is a SING IT LIVE masterpiece!

When I saw the title I thought "no way!" No can you all pull this off. I am a 70 year old rocker musician who has seen it all. I grew up with a real rock star and have always been a little jaded. But you guys knocked it out of the park. Darren, your production elements are perfect and I hear you reach for the absolute correct application every time. On this, the treatment of the lead vox was nearly perfect. There was a few keyboard notes in the second verse I may have to go back and listen to the original.... no I won't. You guys were fantastic and after listening to you for many years now I see where the real leadership is.
The old group is not keeping up. Now you have put this edge on it, you need to keep it up.

Agreed this was awesome! I haven't kept up lately so was a bit confused when I saw Darren and the gang with a new channel name. What happened to the other channel/rest of the band? I can't remember the channel name so can't look them up.

I usually do not like cover songs for certain artists that have such a unique sound as Van Halen, or Joe Cocker etc. But Tib Horvath did Sammy such justice, and Tzan Niko literally playing Frankie killed it. There's no bigger compliment I can give someone covering such a unique sound. I will be back many times to hear this version.

Wow! Tim Horbath's voice holds up so tremendously well on such a demanding song to sing as this one. And the remaining members of the band are no less. Truly a master cover.
Listened to it three times in a row. The drums swing perfectly, the guitarists do a great job without stepping on each other's toes, keyborad and backup vocals are brilliant, the bass is stable and the vocals are sick. What more could you want except that you guys were in my living room and I got to sit and there and watch it. This clip made my day!

In '86 I had just gotten my driver license, I had the car out by myself for the first time. My lacrosse jersey on and coming home. I hit a bunny coming up my street.
I tried to avoid it, but I killed it while listening to this song. I felt so bad I cried. (first time driving alone). I played 5150 to all my lacrosse games in high school...especially "Get Up" to get me motivated for the game. It worked everytime! I quit smoking on July 8, 2012. I am celebrating to this song again as I have made it 10 years without smoking! (July 8th 2022)

In a just published Rolling Stone article, a guy who had email and text communications w/ Ed has revealed that Ed said he wished he stuck w/ piano instead of picking up the guitar. Not only does that have far reaching implications, but it highlights that he was a true musician.
His parents bought him a drum kit and his brother a guitar.... They swapped.
@@aussierednecksinger28 Yes, Ed talked about that back in '82. Ed also told this journalist he wished he never had his first drink ... which was given to him by his father because Ed was nervous. Drugs and alcohol ... so sad.

I have to admit, when VH came back with 5150 and this song I wasn't a big fan of the sound change. Gone were the guitar-driven pounders like Unchained and Runnin' With the Devil, to be replaced with keyboard-laden poppy love songs like Why Can't This Be Love. Over the years, though, I grew to appreciate the songs on the 5150 and OU812 albums. With that being said, if they had mixed it like this back then I would've had no issues whatsoever.
I've said it time and time again, Darren your production is unparalleled. You have such a talent for bringing out the best in each instrument in every video you produce. I'm especially in awe on this one though because, being a keyboardist yourself, you put the guitars front and center in this mix here and I FREAKING LOVE IT! THIS is how 5150 should've been mixed!
I too wasn't hip to the new Van Hagar. Love him or hate him, DLR will always be Van Halen. Well, Van Halen will be all of them but not without the showman, DLR. The only band that I know started out a three-piece, then went to a mix adding synths, and then later to more synth-pieces is the late great RUSH. Early fans loved more bass but followed them still when it was mixed. Grace Under Pressure (I saw a show on that tour in LA)was mostly synth and keys led songs. Power Windows, too. I love the albums now but it had to grow on me. I liked GuP more the PW, though. Probably my least favorite album in the 90s.
