Having completed the "evolution" mode of the PC game, "Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed," I was privy to buying, selling, customizing, and racing many Porsche models between 1950 and 2000. I ended up 'keeping' only 10 Porsche models which are my favorite Porsche models of all time... One of my 10 favorite is the 1997 Porsche Boxster. I chose to keep it primarily, if not only, for 2 reasons: 1. It's the only truly 'modern' Porsche in my collection. 2. It was a somewhat 'iconic' Porsche when it was released in 1997. My impressions are that for the better and worse -- the Boxster was a very refined, perhaps too easy to drive and sterile -- too modern -- Porsche model when it came out in 1997. It has ABS and traction control; my driving experiences found it too easy, too tame to drive, not much of a challenge, to reiterate for better and worse... My impressions are also that the stock/factory model was not very fast. I customized my Boxster -not veering TOO far from the stock model to put some 'bite' into the overall driving/racing experience: I wanted to make my Boxster as fast as possible so I added significant horsepower increases (cone air conversion kit, replacement ECU, better exhaust system, etc.). I also added a light sway bar, pro brakes, semi-pro springs and pro shocks. I also wanted my Boxster to 'look' very 2000s"-ish futuristic and cool: So I installed a hard-top roof, and painted the exterior a custom, very swanky looking custom medium pastel purple hue lacquer -- with a custom white pinstripe package: Two white pinstripes; one which straddles the side of the car; the other straddles the top of the car. The interior leather is a custom UBER-LIGHT colored purple; nearly white... As a result of my upgrades and customizations -- my Boxster looks as cool as any Boxster ever and races very, very well -- while still retaining the stock/factory 'genteel' mannerisms that makes it an every day cruiser road vehicle. Easy to drive to a fault; but very modern looking and feeling...

I love my '99 2.5L
It's so much fun to drive and has so much character!
A GPS Navigation System became avalible in 1998 on the Porsche Boxter.
Now is completely worthless but one day it'll be collectible
