Hi Paul, Thanks for your great videos I use an old Leica 50 mm 2.8 collapsible M lens on my SL2S and it is a match made in heaven. Also a 40 mm F.2 Rockkor (summicron) made by Minolta in the 80's for the CLE wich was a Minolta CL due to the alliance between Leica and Minolta. I found it new from new old stock in Japan version 2 with multi coating. It is an absolute little gem. Thanks for sharing
That's precisely what I do as well. Using vintage lenses on my SL2-S. Got a set of R Primes that I use primarily for video and a 50mm and 35mm Summicron M that I use interchangeably with my M4P. Can't have a more compact 2-camera setup. That's all I have. And yes, you are right; AF lenses make the camera heavy and bulky. That's why I sold the Elmarit 24-90 after 3 years. With some training, focusing will be as quick as with AF, with the advantage that placing the focus isn't dependent on algorithms, freeing creativity. Great videos!!
I was thinking of getting old brilliant Nikon glass at some point. But they focused the other way around, and I didn't want to confuse my muscle memory.
Yeah I regret selling my SL as I just can’t get the same results from my more modern Fuji cameras with manual lenses. Even the colours of the SL are way nicer
hey paul, really interesting to see you using these vintage lenses.50 years ago I purchased 3 pentax super multi-coated takumar lenses. a 55mm f1.8 and a 28mm f3.5 that i use on my micro 4/3 G9 panasonic and the 105mm f2.8 on my full-frame panasonic S5 and the results are acceptional. pentax in those years were using the leica lenses as the gold standard and tried to achieve the same quality as the leica lenses. thx for all the great videos you are producing for us ! zen billings in canada
Oh yeah, Takumars are so great ! I have a 50 1.4 (aka radioactive b*tch) and used it with Xpro 3, Sigma fp and Lumix S1R with great results as well. A joy to use, and wide open, it has a very special look. Love these old lenses ! 😍
I also use vintage lenses on my LeicaSL 601 (bought used last year). I have an old Leicaflex (don’t use much anymore) and a LeicaR7 so I got a metabones R to L adapter. I already had a SummicronR 50mm and a SummicronR 35mm. I watch a bunch of UA-cams and every once and a while somebody will say something - almost in passing - that’s extremely helpful. You mentioned using the joy stick to help with focusing. I just tried it! I feel like I just got a new camera. 😂 I sometimes wear contact lenses and sometimes glasses so focusing can be a problem for me; always adjusting. Thanks for this tip!
You were being very polite and accommodating which I can appreciate. When you are in a public space there is no expectation of privacy. Have you considered a Leica M instead of the SL since manual focus is what you enjoy? What do you charge for the 3 1 hour zoom sessions?
@@paulreidphotography thanks, I had the M262 sold it. I do think about an M10 great camera here in the US I can get a mint condition one for about 5 thousand. The M11 will be over 9 thousand, if I can only figure out how not to eat then no problem
❤ your channel, I have been using vintage lens and M lens on my Leica SL. I bought it used intending on just using it as a Portrait camera.. the viewfinder and operation as you mentioned in your video makes this very easy
Great selection of lenses, looking forward to seeing your results. Well done with the FM2, a good friend has one and said it’s the one camera that he would never sell
Hi Paul, I do this a long time now. What I use to adapt, is a fokal reduktor. This cracy thing makes the lense one step lighter, and the crop factor will be eliminated. My favorits are: PENTACON 2.8/135, Asahi-Pentax 1.4/50mm, and a Steinheil-München 4.5/135mm. Thanks for all your input and Know-how! Best regards, Dirk (DT-Classics, Germany)
Small correction: The word I wanted to use wasn't lighter, but brighter... ;-) Yes, absolutely, it becomes a feeling of full frame on the APS-C camera.
hi paul, i love using my olympus zuiko 55mm 1.2 lens on the leica sl2s. it has such a small dop and weird distorsion wide open that gives the pictures a surreal touch. and obviously adapting m lenses is a blast as well! i even bought an adapter for my pentax 67 glass but that just looks super odd and - so far - was not worth it.
The beauty of the older lenses that still produce excellent results is - you can have a whole stable full of most all focal lengths for less money than a single Leica lens. Imagine having such a deep choice that each time you head out you get to pick a lens or two and have a smaller, lighter, compact kit.
Film photography, great. I started 15 month ago and I’m making my own enlargements in the darkroom since 2 month… What a feeling!!! My Q2M pictures are printed at my photography shop but I’m thinking about getting a printer for that as well.
What am I doing wrong? When I try any other lens except Leica R or M, I don’t see anything in the eve or the lcd screen. Is there any settings I need to change in the Leica SL2 camera? I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.
Congratulations on the FM2, I love mine though not quite as much as my Olympus OM1. I'd say the FM2 split second place with my Nikon F3 😀 Love those old superb cameras...
Another entertaining video. I certainly agree about the use of vintage lenses, I use my Canon LTM's on my digital and film rangefinders...it's the only time my kit is older than me! 😁
The sport misses you, and the sport needs you back. You're a legend to those that love and hate you. You're armwrestlings Marmite 😂I for one love marmite.

@@paulreidphotography Hi Paul,
One which is fantastic too is the V4 of the 50 summicron from 1979 to 1994.
Best
That 105 and 135 are excellent. Really top notch. I shoot them on my FM2n and have owned them for many years.
I’m very excited about using those

There’s really something nice about manually focussing lenses!! Thanks so much for watching the video
I never thought about that!!!
Can you talk to me about the adapter you use for R to L?
@@dcpower23 I use the Novoflex and have tried cheaper ones before. You'll be getting infinity issues with these.
Just got the SL2. When I learned that the camera includes R and M lenses profiles it just felt like heaven.

@@paulreidphotography I was a Fuji user as well and still love it but there is something very nice about the SL2 indeed. The colors are really nice.

I love the SL for manual lenses. I’ve tried other cameras and I still favour the SL
My favorite vintage is 50mm Summicron-Dual Range from 1960, use it on my SL/M11. Love the episode.
Fantastic!!! Thanks so much for watching

I think I consider a Leica M every day!!! Right now it’s just £250 for the workshop.

@@paulreidphotography I know right, I’ve got a few film cameras, the latest is a Zorki 2. Like an old Barnack Leica but a fraction of the price 😉
What attracted me to using a Nikkor 135mm 2.8 on my D3 was the look from it. It's as good on my Lumix S1R without doubt.
Fantastic!!! Those Nikon lenses are really something

I’ve never heard of this issue. It may be the adapter setting. Maybe the lens is set to F22 or something and too dark to see. I’m really not sure
Talk to me about the R to L adapter your using please. 🙏🏿
It’s just a cheap one by k and f concepts.
Funny you should say that. I use my Leica lenses on my Olympus EM1. My favourite is the 75mm F2, Apo Summicron . The results are magical.
Fantastic!!
