Thanks. It’s not as popular here these days so most content will be within the audio realm. (New stuff very soon). With that said, I’ll be doing some lens reviews here this year.
Have to agree 100% with you. I own two of these for my work and I’m amazed at the low light capability, the flexibility, plus it’s built like a tank with typical German engineering
SL2s is still my fav too after all these years. I never understood why the big players keep coming out with plastic cameras covered in buttons. They don't feel like they are worth anything. I love the feel and the simple user interface of my SL. It also has held its value much more than any other still camera that released in the same time frame.
What a beauty! What a beauty that Reporter SL2-S is! I also love Leica SL cameras and I was considering SL2, but realized that for my needs, I am much more concerned with low light performance than megapixels. That's why I bought SL2-S Reporter. The marketing has done a phenomenal job putting the megapixels=quality equation in people's heads. I don’t need a Leica with 47 or 60mp. Heck, I've been told they used to do billboards with 8mp back in the day! 24megapixels is more than enough.
It surely is. I do not know of any situation where 50 or 100MP is "needed" but camera companies market these specs and make us all think we need it. They send talking points to all reviewers, have slideshows, meetings and push the features they want reviewers to talk about. I remember one company pushing their big MP camera and they just kept telling us how important those MP were to have. Not really the case at all though it sells cameras : )
I actually bought TWO SL-2S's so I can go out with two different prime lenses and not have to change lenses. And I mainly use it with vintage R prime lenses! With focus peaking and the incredible EVF . . manual focusing is a delicious experience . . and the R lenses render so stunningly with the SL2S!
That’ll help keep the sensors clean. Which R lenses do you use? I just got a R-adapter-L and am looking forward to trying out my used 15 mm f/3.5 and. 250 mm f/4 R lenses.
@@johnkasianowicz6536 I have the R 50 1.4, the R 80 1.4, the R 100 macro and the R 180 APO 2.8 . . . I use the 100 and the 180 the most . . just stunning results
You are absolutely correct on the Noctilux experience. I always have to lean forward and backward to take several shots in order to get the right focus on my M, but on the SL2 series, it takes only one shot. I am also using the 135 mm M lens on my SL2-S though my favorite M lens is still the 50 mm Summilux ASPH.
Leica SL series is something else, and is very refreshing seeing a camera many years old still competing with brand new releases from other manufacturers, that just shows Leica got it right not only in the original product but as you said also in their commitment to updates. I just wish their native lenses weren’t so damn expensive.
I use the X2D and SL2 for my fashion and beauty work in the studio, but my personal work is mostly SL2-S and M10-R. I love how it handles M-lenses and the low light/high ISO is indeed insane. One tip: when you need smaller/lighter AF lenses, try the Lumix S 1.8 lenses as well. The 50 and 85 are fantastic considering their price and I even prefer them over the Sigma iSeries. They’re very ligjtweight too, but still can take a ‘serious beating’. Another tip: when size and weight doesn’t matter and IQ is all, try a pre-owned S-lens adapted on an SL2 or SL2-S. The rendering is so gorgeous…
SL3-S will have much improved AF just like Panasonics recent improvement within a year it will arrive!! I completely agree about the menu's Hasselblad X1D mark 2 is better regarding menu's but the Leica is wonderful
I wish they have a sensor upgrade program to what the Panasonic S5 mark ii has but for Leica. I am dying for phase detect. Especially with the new 100-400
I had this camera for 2 weeks now and I 100% agree with you. I love shooting my 50 Lux on it. I kept wanting to like the M11 but I just don’t 😅 I do love my MP though!
I just speak of my personal experiences. I’ve had M”s malfunction maybe a dozen times over the years. When they do, it’s a pain and can take months to get repaired. Never had an issue with any SL variety. So I prefer it greatly over the M. Many love the M, that’s awesome. I just grew out of the problems and limited function of the M, for me. The SL2S is the only Leica I would personally buy today, again, just based on my experience. Enjoy and thank you!
O share your sentiments. The sl2s is something unusual nowadays. Noone delivers this insane quality in their products anymore. There is nothing to compare it to.
Leica just launchs 2 new light weight and less expensive lenses, 35mm and 50 f2 ASPH. I look forward to see your review them comparing to SL 35/50mm f2 APO and Sigma 35/50mm f2 dg dn contemporary. Thanks.
Oh I am not sure. I have one battery and never need a 2nd as I shoot sparingly, one shot at a time, and then move on. At the end of day out for me I have plenty of battery left. If you do video or shoot A LOT, you would need a 2nd battery I am sure. The SL2S has been out for a long while now and some said it averages 500 shots on a battery.
If I can only have one camera/one lens for an all around use it for everything (friends and family, travel, photos of motorcycles, etc) which would be the better choice…sl2s or the m10/11? I’m also curious the size of its portable enough to carry around easily, or if it’s a tank like a Pentax K1 etc
Sl2s has a great electronic viewfinder, it is easy to focus with that beautiful viewfinder. You should try it somewhere. M10/M11 does not come with an electronic viewfinder. You can use Leica M-mount lenses (with an adapter) on Sl2-s - those lenses that you use with M10/M11. It is a very portable camera and you can carry it around easily.
The A7SIII has the frame rate advantage, for sure. But the SL2-S is actually better in low light. Very surprising! Also, the A7SIII does not have the image quality of the Leica or the A7R series either. I'm not referring to resolution, BTW. The A9 also has problems with image fidelity, as amazing as it is for it's intended application, i.e. sport.
S1R and Leica SL essentially same cameras that came from same factory. Same specs albeit slightly different outputs obviously but oh my oh my the S1R images are something else.
Yes as the 2s is just more of a versatile camera so I find I use it much more. I still adore the 907x even with its quirks, but the SL2S is so versatile. I have the S5II and Nikon Z8 here as well. I thought maybe I’d switch and while the Z8 is a the marvel, the menus are ridiculous and tue body is sort of fat feeling. The Z8 is fantastic though, and if I had Nikon glass it would be my pick. It is growing on me daily. : )
All depends on what you like in a camera really. Everyone likes different things. I like quality build, design and simple controls that make sense. I enjoy versatility and low light shooting as well. For me, the EVF here is still one of the best made on any camera. It's taken as a whole for me and no other cameras offer me all I enjoy in one body. This one does, but that's for me. Maybe not for you. I suggest renting one and giving it a go if you are thinking of it.
My Reasons? The Body, The Build, The Sensor, The EVF, the controls, the menu, the color, the design, the feel, etc. I rented an S5II. Lovely, but it's not an SL2-S. If my priority was video, I would take neither.
Did you try the Canon R6 Mk II as well? It has become my workhorse, and yes, its the best and most versatile digital camera I ever owned, and there were many ... It has no weaknesses, and concerning image quality I can't see a difference to your Leica SL2-S images. Canon colors are also very natural, but you get them at a much lower price than from Leica 😉
Glad to see you talking about the photo side once again!

Great to hear your thoughts on Leica SL2S. I’ve missed your camera reviews. Keep it up.

Glad you are back discussing photography!!!
Have to agree 100% with you. I own two of these for my work and I’m amazed at the low light capability, the flexibility, plus it’s built like a tank with typical German engineering
Does it mean that the SL2 by default performs less well in low light?
SL2s is still my fav too after all these years. I never understood why the big players keep coming out with plastic cameras covered in buttons. They don't feel like they are worth anything. Thanks Steve for another great review for SL2-S. I just bought a new SL2-S with 35mm F2 kit lens from B&H.

@@PeterbFree OH PLEASE!
Nice review. Did you try R lenses on the SL2S? I've a bunch of them, but they are a bit slow to shoot on a M240 with EVF.
I use R Lenses an my SL2-S, it´s beautiful to work with, the 60mm marcro, the 2.8 28-90, or apo 90mm,, all are best to use on.
If you have could have one lens only for this camera which would it be?
Which software do you use for editing the DNG files, please? I mean keeping the camera profile?
Hi. LR classic does allow you to use the camera profiles
Forest green body with the gold lens? That’s match made in heaven
Do you still use the 907x?
It makes absolute sens you and the SL2S...!!!
For stills.. SL or SL2-S and why? Thanks!
I want the reporter SL2-S so bad.
How does the color reproduction compare to the SL?

I agree with you.
Yes Sl2-S my favorite camera The beast ….❤ i use also M10P but Sl2S is better …
what about comparing it to a Hasselblad x2d
