Just a suggestion.... a used aluminum or nylon mud flap is the same shape ! I have a lot of them around that I`ve taken off of my cars and trucks because they are frayed at the bottom or to small to do the job they are made for! Thanks Rod.

I did this for my Colorado XT pontoon boat. I left the top as is which gave it more surface space. It really help the boat track straight and easier on the turn. I didn't use any clamps. Just drill two small holes on the vertical part n one on the horizontal section. I use an old rubber tire and wrap it around the trolling motor shaft and zip tye it. There is no movement or play! It cost me less then 10 dollars!

A good idea but I can't see how that rudder isn't going to twist around on that shaft when you try to turn. There doesn't seem to be enough clamping pressure of those electrical parts onto that shaft unless they are already a pretty tight fit when they start to be closed up but watching as you tighten them there still seems to be quite a lot of movement to start with ?

Nice job! These types of rudders on a trolling motor make a HUGE difference in steering.

Njchef thanks man. If you have any questions let me know. Make sure the bolts you use are 1-1 1/4 max I used 2 inch at first and they where way to long

Thanks, I made one, it moved around and slid. Added a shim and 3m 5200 to the fitting clamp. works good. Also the clamps have zinc in them and pitted like a anode. Would work for fresh water but I fish in salt brackish water. Going to have to buy the plastic one so it doesnt corrode my motor. Good project tho' thanks

I don't understand why the rudder doesn't go straight up without curving in. You just end up with less turning force. The whole rudder is under water so no need to curve inward.

Just curious why you would cut the top part n not leave more surface area?

When you turn the boat that corner would be the part most likely to hit the hull.
