@@kingforaday8725 Many of the WWII films you've probably seen are actually untouched. Film technology was getting quite good by the early '40s. Talkies became common in the 1920s, leading to the standardization of recording and projection speeds. Technicolor processes became widespread in the 1930s, meaning those full color films you see of HItler and his staff are generally original film created for news and/or propaganda purposes. Some of the battle footage like those of carriers and their planes looks a bit less crisp. But that's because the cameras had to operate under less than ideal conditions. And they still look amazing despite the conditions. Most of our impressions of poor film stock from the time actually comes from television. Television recording works different from film recording (being encoded as an NTSC signal to drive a television tube) and was far lower quality than movie prints were capable of. The plot wouldn't have gotten so far had McCoy regarded Kahn's putting a knife to his throat worthy of a report to security section or the commanding officer.
To be fair, he thought it was a scared civilian waking on some strange medical facility (which he was, kinda). It was worthy a report, but let us not forget Kirk gave Khan access to the ship manuals. And if he were a normal man, as they thought he was, he would not be a threat. They probably would not have treated him different, aggressive behaviour or not. And Khan was guarded and confined after his meal with the officers anyway after they started suspect him.
They should've kept this scene in. It always struck me as odd that McCoy would sit still and watch Kirk essentially die in a decompression chamber. He's always been so vocal and protective of his friends. This deleted scene is much more in line with his character.
Many of the perils Kirk & crew faced were attributable to either an incredibly slack Starfleet security protocol, or failure of the commanding officer in training and enforcement of that protocol.

Totally agree. Personally, I think Star Trek might've weathered those years BETTER with a TV series. If "The Motion Picture" had instead been a mini-series in 1975 that kickstarted a new series (as it was originally proposed) then say 1976-80 would have been amazing years with a TV show. It's too bad the schedules of Montalban and Shatner didn't allow them to be together in the movie. A scene is needed where Kirk offers himself to buy time for his crew. Khan would soundly thrash him. Kirk would be snatched away, by the restored transporter, avoiding the killing blow. That would further enrage Khan.
Totally agree. Personally, I think Star Trek might've weathered those years BETTER with a TV series. If "The Motion Picture" had instead been a mini-series in 1975 that kickstarted a new series (as it was originally proposed) then say 1976-80 would have been amazing years with a TV show. THEN in the 80's, kick off the movie years with "Wrath of Khan".
But, hindsight is always 20/20....
Hmm. I can see why they cut this. Can’t see bones grabbing Khan like that really
