  • A rather unprepared demo of the Sonnox Oxford Dynamics Plug In, requested by Serhiy. It's an ugly-looking, great sounding, kinda not so intuitive dynamics solution.. but did I mention it sounds great? There's a bit to unpack here, and I kinda feel like I only scratch the surface of what it can do for VO, but let's dive in and see if we can make this thing work.

    Thanks, Mark. I think compression is so transparent for you voice. And gate/expander works so well. Also I like warmth function.

      My pleasure, man. I agree. I think it sounds pretty great and the side chain EQ having a slightly steeper learning curve as a de esser (you know, like spending more than an hour with it) is the only minor critique I have about the functionality. Use it every day for a week and you’d probably have practically mastered how to use it. Thank you for the suggestion!

    Age-ist! 😆I like the Sonnox family (I don't have this one, but their Supresser (de-esser) and Limiter (which includes their Inflator) are good.

      LOL! I actually have the Supresser too. The Sonnox stuff is absolute pro quality all the way.

    How do you like this plugin compared to the DFC?

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 роки тому

      DFC, in my opinion, has more of a film production/ tv broadcast sound. It’s a console whereas the Sonnox is more of a transparent dynamics package.

    Isn't sidechain eq dependent on an external sidechain signal coming in to trigger it? ie when a kick kicks it drops that frequency band in your signal to make space for the kick. That's why the input gain isn't doing anything, that controls how hard the external signal is pushing your sidechain and triggering that eq....but as you have no external signal coming in it's not doing anything.

      I said no existential questions.

      LOL. I don’t get what it’s side chaining from either, unless it’s self: which would make it like an endless human centipede of side chain, and if that’s the case those folks at Sonnox are bloody geniuses!

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff noooo idea.....can you click above the green 'in' button where it says 'eq side chain' and change it to something else? Or...switch off the eq side chain button and enable the hf shelf??

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 роки тому +1

      @@zeitakulobusta9708 it’s a parallel signal taken after the plug in’s input. So it is its own side chain signal that can either be sculpted before being fed to the comp/limiter/expander/gate, or can be switched to a non-side chain, regular EQ in the audio path.

    1990 is giving it too much credit Mark. lol..I'd say an easy 1985...Totally ugly GUI. Has a nice sound though for sure. Didn't they used to have a Massenburg version that was supposedly incredible?

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 роки тому +1

      Hahahaha! It's totally from Kajagoogoo, man. I think they should send you a pair of capezios when you buy it. I don't know about the Massenberg version, but I bet there's a Don Johnson version. It should say "Where's the Beef?" on the menu bar across the top.

      No way did you come up with Kajagoogoo. That song was the bomb. You're too shy-y. I think even PSP updated their look from their old gui
