As a photographer and videographer in my school's mass communication society, I'd like to thank you, Devin, for creating all these tutorials which helped me and my friends to have a better understanding in these areas. I'm currently experimenting with a cheep home made glide cam, since I don't have the budget for a real one) which would enable me to take more motion shots, and you sir, gave me some ideas for that. We're planning to expand our product range from the usual school magazine to digital newsreels to post online, wish us luck! Finally, greetings from Penang, Malaysia (P.s: we have lots of awesome stuff here for you to explore) Peace out~
"Do what makes you unique" - Thanks Devin You were the first cinematographer whose work I saw and knew it was you, not that I'm a film student or anything, haha.. Thanks for all your videos!
Thanks Devin. What I learned is 'just be you'. The key to anything great is learning the principles yet bringing your own twist. That's what makes us amazing. Not copycatting!!! So working on making better UA-cam videos now.
Great advice Devin, thanks! Your camera angels using the glidecam changed the way I used to look at nature videos and made me love doing such type of videos. I'll be forever grateful for that
+devingraham I've been creating stuff for years, every now and then, a bit more serious the past few months but nothing big, I did tried asking you to check my videos out but I know you get thousands of comments so it's a little mission impossible for that to happen, but if you get to see this if you can at least see my demo reel I know that one is decent enough that I can say you could like it :)
Great vid Devin. Love the practical statement about the eye level POV everyone already has. It's like when you ride in a car, if you show the drivers POV is boring. If you flip the cam on the driver and passenger -- from the dashboard POV -- you can't get that perspective in the everyday world. Thanks for the great guidance.
Thanks for the tutorial! I love how you said that everyone should film/photograph according to your own way. It's so easy to admire other people's work and get influenced into your own work. I realized recently that I should have my own style when I went diving and started taking underwater macro photography...otherwise, everyone's work would just look the same.
I'm a painter and I learn so much from you on how I want to set up a painting. Kinda cool how you help and inspire me even though I do not use a camera.
Devin, thank you so much for this series. As a new UA-camr these videos have been extremely helpful to me and I really appreciate all the time and energy you're putting into this. Keep it up, can't wait to see the Glidecam tutorial!
This is my favourite tutorial so far. I'm currently in Barcelona and will be shooting some videos of the city next week, so will bear all of this in mind.
This wasn't what I was looking for. I accendently found this video. Still, what he explains shows that he really knows what he's talking about, and he has a unique eye for this kind of things. Beautiful angles and an amazing technique.
These are the same principles i go by, i try to capture my shots from an angle that people don't usually see things to make them unique. Great minds think alike :D I cant wait for the glidecam tutorial!
this video helped me so much. Even though I don't make videos, it still helped because I like to take pictures and it was helpful to know how to take creative photos by using different angles thank you so much
Yes! Exactly! When I walk into London Drugs (in the electronic/tv section) and see a video on those 4k tv's, I can tell if it's your work or not! You really have your own signature in all the work you do!
Hi Devin. First of all I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! They are amazing and I love this new segment where you give us tips. I was just wondering if you would do a video on every single tool you use to create your videos. We get a broad idea but i'm sure there are lots of things that you don't necessarily see in a behind the scenes shoot. Thanks so much and keep doing your vids FOREVER!!!
he has really expensive underwater housing. not saying theres anything wrong with that but for many people i cant go spend 1,000$+ on an underwater housing. im going to make a diy rig. there are many tutorials on UA-cam as well
Devin please include in your Glidecam video what focal length you choose for what situation, whether it is harder for you to film with 40mm than with 16mm etc. I always film on 10mm (1.6x crop) what makes it quite easy to get steady shots but sometimes it would be better to go with 24 or something but it's hard to keep steady then.
Do a Tutorial about .... 1.Filming Underwater 2. How to Keep Everything in Focus while shooting (With DSLR'S AND OR Mirrorless) (with or without glide cam) 3. The Type of editing software you recommend (For beginners / Experts ..etc)
You are amazing!!! And what you said in the video is what makes you so amazing, you are doing this in your own way! And DAMN! Your way is pretty good :D
Hello Dev you get a trillion questions a day, but maybe someone can answer this one. when you use the glidecam do you have to add digital stabilization in your editor also or is the glidecam good enough. thanks and good to see a young man taking his work so seriously.
Devin's style ! And you are totally true about that :) We have on TV in France a program, broadcasting internet videos in different categories (incredible, animals, nature sports, etc..) called "Le Zap". And when I see a video from you, without knowing the credits, i'm like "It seems like a Devin's video!" And it is! (I broadcasted to my parents some of your work, and now, when watching this TV show, they can also tell "It looks like a Devin's work!") I think it's something incredible when you can produce that "effect" to people! Congrats ;)
Hello Master .. U R always so inspiring... any thing regarding a Glidecam setup and operation ... explaining the droptime, balancing, and other tips and trick ... please! :) Thanks
"There’s nothing worse than an ostentatious shot or some lighting that draws attention to itself... you jump out, you think about the surface, and you don’t stay in there with the characters and the story." - Roger Deakins
Hey Devin - love your tutorials videos. When you shoot your over-under water footage, do you ever use graduated ND filter or red filters for the underwater part?
+Blayke Fisher Lots of different cameras, depends on the story. But for the last two years, the RED Dragon has been the main one, and all the years before that, the Canon 5D Mark III, Mark II, and Canon 1DC.
its a fish eye distortion. Usually it happens when you film using a wide angle fish-eye lense because it distorts the edges. This can also be achieved in post digitally but it doesn't really look as convincing.
I'd love to see how you go about editing your movies. From start to finish would be sweet. If you could go back and redo the edits to a video you already did we could fallow along. Are you using premier? or are you also using after effects?
hey devin ..u showed us some of the real footage of your glidecam which is little bit shaky..so which software u r using to stablize the shot. is there any free software available ?

I am waiting for it
What camera was being used for the underwater shots? Was it just a gopro?
which lens u have used in 6:16 to 6:21...???
Hey Devin awsome tutorial. I was wondering what do you think about the Panasonic G7? please reply. Thanks, greetings from Argentina
hey Devin nice video....can you also explain why is shooting in raw better? Thank you!
+bartolomej kozorog We will in 3 or so weeks. Very few of our subscribers have the option to film in RAW, so we wanted to start with the basics first.
What camera does he use for the epic stuff?
+Blayke Fisher red or phantom or canon 5d mark
+Blayke Fisher Lots of different cameras, depends on the story. But for the last two years, the RED Dragon has been the main one, and all the years before that, the Canon 5D Mark III, Mark II, and Canon 1DC.
what term is used for filming with a convex view and how do we do it?
its a fish eye distortion. Usually it happens when you film using a wide angle fish-eye lense because it distorts the edges. This can also be achieved in post digitally but it doesn't really look as convincing.
could i use the underwater clip in one of my videos, it will only last 10 seconds
Great tips!
Thank you!!!

+Sohail Ansari I use Adobe Premiere, "warp" sometimes. Don't know of anything free out there. Everyone gets a one month trial with Adobe though.
+devingraham thanx.. :)
Thank you sir
