POUND LIKE for more Gacharic Spin! Tomo-Zo is now another one of my guitar heroes! (Don't worry, no one will replace Kanami) Thank you to everyone i mentioned in the video, who suggested i check them out!
Where to start? Gacharic Spin has been around for a long time now, and they have had quite a few line-up modifications over the years. They were originally a four-piece group -- Koga (Bass), Hana (Drums), Tomo-zo (Guitar), and Armmy (Vocals). The original singer unfortunately had to leave due to health issues, and sadly later passed away.
After this, the band added Oreo (Keyboards). Interestingly, they decided NOT to add a new vocalist. Instead, Hana, Oreo, and sometimes Tomo-zo did the lead vocals. Because Hana and Oreo were stuck behind the drum kit and keyboards much of the time, they also added two dancers, Arisa and Mai, to help engage the crowd and add to the energy of live concerts. Arisa left after a couple years to finish school and was replace by Nenne, who also played some keyboard at times.
I believe the instrumental video you just watched took place here, chronologically.
A couple years ago, Mai and Nenne both departed the band within a few months of each other. Nenne left due to hearing damage; Mai "graduated" the band to focus on school.
At this point, the band added Yuri (drums), and Angelina (Vocals and dance). Hana had previously been doing both the drums and much of the lead vocals. With Yuri taking over the drums, Hana switched to rhythm guitar.
For their current tour, they have a supporting drummer because Yuri is on pregnancy leave.
OK, so with the history out of the way, Gacharic Spin is noteworthy mostly for their insanely energetic live shows, and for the musical chops of Koga, Tomo-zo, and Hana. I'm a bigger Band-Maid fan than Gacharic Spin fan, as Band-Maid's songwriting style appeals to my musical tastes better. But pound for pound, Koga on Bass and Tomo-zo on guitar are every bit as good on their instruments as MISA and Kanami. Hana also gets credit for drumming, singing, playing guitar, and even doing a little electric clarinet. She's a multi-instrumental powerhouse.
Musically, Gacharic Spin is a band that throws everything and the kitchen sink at the wall to see what sticks. I would describe most of their music as "electronic pop rock," but it's extremely varied. Aside from Koga, every member contributes vocals, and they've produced songs ranging from Electronica, to pure J-Pop, to Reggae, to anthemic rock, to hard rock. They sing, they rap, they wear ridiculous costumes, and they go ridiculously hard live. There is concert footage of Oreo and Nenne wearing Keyboards as backpacks and trading off keyboard solos by playing off the other person's back.
In short, even if I personally find their songwriting a bit hit-or-miss, they are very talented and a ton of fun.
Last note -- Gacharic Spin has collaborated with Fuki (Lead vocalist for Light Bringer and Unlucky Morpheus) on a side project called Doll$boxx. They have released two albums together that are much more hard rock/metal than Gacharic Spin's usual music.
Feel free to hit me up if you want links to some good options for react-able songs for either Gacharic Spin or Doll$boxx.
TomoZo is Kanami’s guitar hero! Well, Tomo came first, and they took a picture together once…. But watch Doll$Boxx’s Take My Chance MV, then realize BandMaid was conceived 6months later. And listen to this instrumental, then Onset, then look up the dates (hint: they’re similar, TomoZo’s was out first). Btw, this song is aka Nicorin Planet’s Commuter Rush. You may recall, TomoZo landed here in 2009 disguised as a pink 14yr old pirate witch, but once she found the best band in the galaxy, she revealed that she is 100,000,014yrs old, from Nicorin, and has finally ended her quest! Here’s the song she shreds, Ee, sings about it… “Final Na Fantasy”. Pure awesome, even if her voice is only audible by canines. ua-cam.com/video/bsmn-YUPRX8/v-deo.html
I only discovered this band less than a month ago with their live version of "Mindset" and at the end I literally thought "WTF did I just listen to?" with a huge smile on my face. The solo was astounding. I have watched many Gacharic Spin videos since then and always thought that Tomo-Zo was very under rated as a guitarist since her solos were always short, sweet, and to the point but they left you wanting more. This was the first time I saw this video and it was a pleasure to see that she was the main spot-light. Yes, Tomo-Zo is not only amazing but also having such a great time when she plays.
Nice!!. Gacharic Spin is another great band from Japan. Tomo-Zo is a great guitarist but I think the star of this band is the bass of F Chopper Koga. Amazing. Glad you like them.
Hana, the drummer, is a great multi-instrumentalist. Please check her growl in Doll$Box songs.
太くて良い音で、メロディもインパクト強い。
ガチャの応援をよろしく😄
When You dive into Gacharin Spin You gonna see how organized chaos is and lots of fun..... ;-) GS is a awesome band! FC Koga on bass is something... and those North drums is loud!
Gacharic Spin have so many musical influences in their catalog. You'll really appreciate their songs Mindset and Kakuhen
great reaction/analysis to a great band that I stumbled onto a few years ago when I discovered Band-Maid along with all the fantastic rock/metal scene in Japan. Yes, Oreona is wearing a burger costume... lol not sure why.... I'm hardly an expert on the band, but know that they've been around for nearly 10 years and have a few line up changes over the years ( first lead vocalist left and later passed away, Hana (drummer) took over lead vocals for most of their songs that I've heard and for a time they incorporated dancers for a visual element to engage the audience. For their latest lineup, they dropped the dancers and added a new vocalist and a new drummer and Hana has come out front on guitar/vocals/melodica. Koga, (bassist) is known for her awesome slap bass style and Tomo-zo is underrated and awesome. One thing you'll notice is just how energetic this band is and they like to experiment with their sound and styles. Gacharic Spin is more like their "lighter pop rock" side, and have a harder rock project, "Doll$boxx" with a fantastic lead singer, Fuki (who has a ton of projects herself but her main band that I know her from is Unlucky Morpheus - and they're worth discovering as well - they incorporate a violinist in their line up). if you'd like to check out Doll$boxx, "Take My Chance" is a good place to start. GS has so many great songs and you should check out more.
This is the most fun band live, they do the weirdest most awesome things lol. They don't have any story behind their outfist, every concert is a different outfit and theme. They started in 2009
They do all genres of rock from something progressive sounding like this to hard rock, funk rock, jazz fusion, electronic rock, metal and also pop rock
the members of the band are:
Koga F Chopper: Bassist (badass master bass slapper) also vocalist
Tomo-zo: Lead guitarist (amazing guitarist) also vocalist
Hana: Drummer (in this song) and also usually lead vocalist, but she does also does guitar and aerophone in this band + plays also bass. and does clean and scream vocals
Oreo Reona: the great keyboardist also vocalist
yuri: other drummer when Hana plays another instrument other than the drums
Angelina 1/3: vocalist and peformer (she dances)
time to revisit them. - I wish and mindset are worth seeing.
Great musical analysis - I always appreciate people who figure out, that there is always something musically going on during a Gachapin song, even if it takes a second or third listen to figure it out. Tomo-Zo is one of the most creative guitarists, always coming up with unique parts for each song, being interwoven with Oreo's keys intricately. She is also one of the few who can shred but mostly decides not to and instead plays what the song needs (kinda like Queens Brian May).
What's also unique about her, is that she sometimes leaves both tracks of a solo in the final mix on the studio recording (Doll$Boxx's Shout down solo end) and during live, she switches between both parts.
Tomo-Zo and Oreo (keys) do a lot of unison/harmonized lead parts ( like on Doll$boxx's Loud Twin Stars).
And Yes, do MindSet and/or the 13 min 3 song live-set of D$B that Nanaka Kitano suggested. Cheers :)
This amazing guitarist is ともぞー. I love her guitar play and smiles.
Gacharic Spin are such a good time band, that it's easy for folks to overlook how good they are technically.
As you noted, the guitarist (Tomo-zo) can really shred.
The drummer (Hana) is very solid.
And the keyboardist (Oreo Reona) is… a cheeseburger for some reason.
Her hair ornaments are ketchup and mustard bottles.
That was F Chopper Koga on bass.
I don't why Tomo-zo was dressed as Little Bo-peep.
As far as the burger costume is concerned:
Q: How did the idea of the hamburger costume happen?
Oreo: I chose a hamburger because it was cute.
I really like hamburgers.
I wanted something big and round, so I was thinking either hamburger or takoyaki, I like hamburgers more. so…
A fantastic band; super musicians, song writers and performers/entertainers! Please check out more of them :)
Love these ladies, they are so much fun and entertaining and talented! I would love to see a concert of theirs, it would be a blast!! Thank you for reacting to this video.
Tomo-Zo is a great guitarist!
Kanami will still be my #1 though. She just oozes soul. You know? 😉
Oh I know.. I’m in the same boat!
@@WavePotter TOMO-ZO has nicer legs than Kanami. That is all. Over and out.
Hana plays a North Drums with 90-degree bent, funnel-shaped drums designed by Roger W. North in the 1970s to better project the sound and tonal nuances of the drums towards the audience. Such a thing stood on the balcony of a converted old cinema, which was a popular concert hall here in my home town of Bremen in the 80s (I watched Joe Jackson there). It fascinated me somehow because it really looks very unusual.
Every single member of this band is a top tier musician bar none. The bassist is literally one of the top 5 female bassist of all of Japan. You can ask anyone.
Guitar is Tomo-zo. She is a fabulous guitarist who can also do metal. Hana is the drummer who also plays rhythm guitar now days (they got a new drummer who is on a maternity leave).
Gacharic Spin spans many genre - because they can - pop/rock/dance/metal/funk/fusion and many more. They are an amazing band.
Murata Tamu played drums for them at the Naon Yeon Festival

Yes,, I know.
Great first reaction and this band is very underrated but the more you dig the more you find just how great this band is. Gacharic Spin is a group that is best described as loosely contained chaos on stage and all the musicians are some of the best in Japan. The band was formed in 2009 by bassist F Chopper Koga after leaving her first band, Pink Panda. Koga was looking for musicians for a new band and asked her friend from HS the drummer Hana first. At this time, Hana was playing bass in another band and switched to drums (she is a multi-instrumentalist). Together they found guitarist Eita and singer Armmy. After a few concerts on their first tour, Eita left the band and they needed to find another guitarist so the recruited Tomo-Zo, who was the guitarist from the band Eu Phoria, that also included the keyboardist Oreo, had just split up so Tomo-Zo could start at Gacharic Spin. Oreo supported the band with keyboard at concerts in 2010 and 2011 until becoming a full member. Singer Armmy left the band (2012) due to health issues (she later passed away). They have also had a number of support members, mainly for dancing around, sometimes playing instrument. In 2019 they switched up the lineup and Hana switched from drums to rhythm guitar, added drummer Yuri and new dance/vocalist Angie 1/3 (red hair and she was 17 at the time, she's now 19)).
Gacharic Spin is an amazing group. Yes, they've had several members leave over the years, but they have remained a really top-notch group. Now you need to hear Doll$Boxx, which is Gacharic Spin with Fuki as the last singer, highly recommend the song "Take My Chance". Also looking forward to your reaction to Sokoninaru.😁
Doll$Boxx Take My Chance is a must watch.
Also looking forward to Sokoninaru.
Ah yes one of my favorite bands. Gold Dash is another good one from them.
For more conformation of their amazing musical ability check out their song Tamashii played on toy instruments.
Wow! Nice surprise!!
I love this instrumental so much :)
Tomo-zo is my second favorite guitarist (after Kanami 🤓) and Koga is my second favorite bassist (right after MISA 😁). Hana Sano used to play drums but she switched a couple of years ago to rhythm guitar. She's a multi-instrumentalist and she also sings, growls, raps and writes the songs. Oreo Reona the keyboardist is phenomenal and she also sings.
Thank you Wave 🙏🏻
That's awesome! Thank you for the suggestion! I'm so glad i finally listened to you and watched them. So good!
@@WavePotter Man, I just stopped my Nicolas Cage movie when I saw the notification for your Gacha reaction haha
Oreo is wearing a burger outfit 🍔😆
From Japan
Gacharic Spin was formed in 2009 by bass guitarist F Chopper KOGA, who decided to form a new band with her high school classmate and bandmate, Drum Hana. The original is these two people, and it continues to the present while changing members. The playing ability of each member is high, and the bass F chopper KOGA, lead guitar TOMO-ZO, and drummer HANA & YURI are considered to be one of the best female players. In addition, they have formed "DOLL $ BOXX" as a side project. The band's founder, F Chopper KOGA, was a gravure idol.
Here are some of my favorite rock groups these days. Please see if you are interested.

The instrumental is not their usual, which I characterize as "madcap dance party" with vocals. I love this though! This might be the best display of their abilities yet.
Outfits are changed up whenever they feel like it and tend to be whimsical. Oreo's burger look is a classic.
Hana has a miner's hardhat with the light replaced by a cowbell positioned so she can hit it with a drumstick... I dig when that comes out.
Gacharic Spin is great. They like to live up to the gacha portion of their name though so you are never quite sure what genre of music the next song is going to be. The only sure thing is that it will be masterfully made. If you want to see how good their technique is you should check out the Tamashii video on their official channel.
Finally the song showing what TomoZo got! Sheis usually mostly in the background serving the overall sound, but this time she is really shining!
I think its Hamburger. in hair there is ketchup and mustard. that cape part is top bun with sesame seeds. and lower part is patty lettuce cheese and bottom bun
I get a lot of Dixie Dregs vibes from this song. ie, Bloodsucking leaches etc. And no, these outfits are not typical for Gacharic Spin ( or Doll$Boxx).
Yes! This song is so awesome and so is this band. Kinda under appreciated in my opinion but with them putting a new album out soon, hopefully people will check them out more. And great reaction by you.
That was a fun instrumental! I was hoping the drummer (Hana) and bassist (F Chopper Koga) would get a chance to shine though, as they are both amazing.
Next Up: Doll$boxx with the songs 'Take My Chance' or 'Shout Down'. You won't be disappointed.
Haha Oreo used to be a cheeseburger
One of the best bands around. Unfortunately they really like block a lot of good stuff from us . Some of their best songs are deep cuts on the albums. Mindset, gold dash , some older stuff like “winner “ should be available. A lot of their songs are only listed in Japanese or I would give you more. For audio only try Danganbeat
watch tamashii live or next stage live..they play dual drum
😎hehehe yep..need to check them more...the more you check the more you discover everything from Japan..🤟😂😂 awesome rite😎?
Wow!!!!!!! This is prog rock 2021!!!!!
Some classic jazz rock riffs happening there! Keyboards remind me of Jan Hammer!
Great moog technique!
They know their James Brown. The drum rhythm in the beginning is similar to "Cold Sweat", but faster.
Kive the keyboards. Reminds me a little of Yes and Emerson Lake and Palmer. I'm just an old progrock fan.
For sure!!!
Btw it’s gotcha.rick spin. Pronounced how it’s spelled. The gacha part is from gachapon the noise that a gumball machine makes when you crank the handle and a gumball falls out. The pon is the gumball/ prize and the gacha is the cranking noise so gacharic spin is the the spinning together of their various noises to make beautiful music...thnx
This is so helpful. Thank you Don!
These girls also used to have a cool side project with Unlucky Morpheus singer Fuki, here you have a song called Dragonet + drum solo ua-cam.com/video/gWd6JIHMlkk/v-deo.html and a little set of songs, performing fast and tight ua-cam.com/video/EOLZ2gLGwL4/v-deo.html
Oreo Reona is wearing a "Cheeseburger" costume. The red and yellow on her head are the Katchup and Mustard. The "Cape" over her shoulders is the Cheese... I'm glad she isn't doing these things anymore... after Angelina 1/3 joined and she (Oreo) cut and bleached her hair, she seems to be more focused on the music and less on stealing the show (my perception, not her intent I'm sure). Tomo Zo is magnificent on the Guitar and (shout out to Tim Gove) right up there with Kanami, BOTH of whom I absolutely adore!
If you´re into instrumentals, please react to the band "Asterism".
Some fantastic musicians at a very young age.
My suggestions are "dawn" or "Light in the darkness", all on thier official UA-cam-page. Thanx!
They are in my queue and i will definitely be getting to them soon! Thank you!
@@WavePotter Vladimir will be happy, he visited them in January last year in Fukuoka before we met for two BAND-MAID concerts in Nagoya and Kobe.
I like Mike Portnoy but I didn't notice. If you ask me, The Dance Of Eternity... That's right. You're awesome!
Welcome to Gacharic ( sounds like gotcha, rick) Spin's rabbit hole. In fact they have a new song out this year by that title. This band defies description. Consider reactions to their live performances from the 10th anniversary final concert of Next Stage, Tamashii, Redline, Stay Gold, Hunting Summer, as well as more recent live performances from Zepp Haneda of GS songs 1 Game, Days, Juicy Beats, and the aforementioned Mindset. There's so much great material there, and each clip is almost too much to take in but still highest quality.
Yea that’s right Oreo was a cheeseburger for about a year haha
Yes Orio was a hamburger for close on year lol And Tomo-Zo is a friKing amazing guitarist Hana is a beast on the kit and Koga is slap master there all masters most of the time there goofing about having as much fun as posable but some times they put there serious hat and you get stuff like this.
I've been watching a few of their music videos and yes, their keyboardist likes to cosplay as a hamburger. It's kind of a running gag. Really looking forward to your reaction to Mindset.
Very much a band that shines live - great entertainers. Over the years they've had several dancers, in this track, one of the dancers Nenne, takes over Oreo Reona's keyboard so Oreo Reona can sing and dance. Ganbanba Dancer : ua-cam.com/video/dkRXyApnteU/v-deo.html
Love this song, please also cek out Lovebites - Empty Daydream.. a song with beautiful piano intro and voice.
Great reaction and thanks
Mono Phonic vs Poly Phonic, is what you were trying to say regarding the keyboard, I believe.
I have finally figured out what this song reminds me of. Pictures of the City by King Crimson, that's what it is!
ua-cam.com/video/c7QdzDssvqY/v-deo.html
That part, which you discuss here at 12:46, is very much following the same idea as in Pictures of the City at 4-25 ( ua-cam.com/video/c7QdzDssvqY/v-deo.html )...
At least to my ear.
I must confess that I've heard maybe one song from The Aristocrats only, so, maybe they also play something similar.
Hunting Summer Live, please.
Hi could you react to "Hiromi Uehara - Voice (from Jazz à Vienne 2011)" if you want to see some very high level instrumental improvisational musicianship, it is a project by japanese virtuoso jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara accompanied by Anthony Jackson on bass and Steve Smith on drums.
Hiromi's Time Control album is one of my favourite jazz fusion albums
@@nanakakitano9724 Yeah!! Time Control is Amaazing
👍👍👍
More Gacharic Spin pls
Is she dressed as a quarter pounder? 😂
YES! Perfect comment.
Oreo is wearing a cheeseburger outfit. She kept wearing after everyone else changed because her doll was selling
I know you have a long list already, but you should make sure Asterism is on it. They are a trio instrumental band from Japan. Check out "Rising Moon." The guitarist and bassist will blow you away guaranteed.
Hahahaha, From Instrumental to Baku Baku😅❤
IF ITS JAPANESE ITS ALWAYS TOP TALENT.
Next reaction Aldious 😁🙏
Check out some of F Chopper Koga's videos highlighting her. It will blow your mind watching what she does on bass. Similar to MISA as far as talent but more showboaty.

@@otobokegaijin6218 Thanks sensei. I am definitely more in the humorous verse school of thought for most "band haiku", at least in intention.
Oreo came in a little on the heavy side(for a Asian) and had issues with her weight for several years.
When she finally wore a two piece costume that showed her stomach GS filmed a bit were the girls came into the dressing room and found Hana pinching a bit of the skin on Oreo’s side…
When asked oreo said she wanted to wear a round costume.
In other wards something that would show unsightly stomach bulge. All the girls picked a costume that reflected their personality rather than being stuck in one of victors uniforms.
Everyone else wore the styles for a year before they changed again. Oreo wore hers for an extra six months because someone had created a plushy
Of hamburger oreo and it was selling really well. After a while Hana also got a plushy but her was a huge seller…
I like the members of this band and I think they are good but I don't listen to their songs much.
One of their few decent songs.
Can’t stand this band.
