I started a low buy this month. It has helped make my “mistakes” more obvious, easier to learn from and forgive because I’m only messing up a few dollars at a time. I ate out once, got coffee 3x and bought something on Etsy for $30. I’m not going through lines and lines of me breaking the budget and feeling bad about myself. It’s only a few small transactions that I messed up on and can try to do better on next month.

This is such a healthy attitude honestly. I always feel so comforted when I see someone not going to hard on themselves. It is ok to slip up, we learn as we go on, we don’t have to be perfect from the start. Thank you for reminding me this today

It's great to see one's patterns emerge, becoming aware is honestly half the journey! I'm doing a no buy August after doing some thrifting and sales shopping this month. Kind of a reset.

I pulled up my Amazon and Target apps spending last year. I am embarrassed and ashamed. If I have saved it all I could’ve taken my family on a really amazing trip! This year WILL be different. Every time I feel like spending I remember the embarrassing feelings I felt a few weeks ago.

    • @so.many.obstacles

Chile…I’m not that brave yet. I’m still getting over the$1,640 in interest I paid last year on my cards. It was a gut punch. And like you said this year WILL be different. Thankfully, this year it’s been less than $20 and I don’t plan to have a balance again! Enough is enough!
I’m doing my first NSM, maybe after this I will total up my spending last year, screenshot it, and use it as my phone wallpaper.

Reading a book from the library or finishing a started project doesn't cost any money. During Corona I have watched TWO movies every week, on TV with my own popcorn; the movies are just as good and for free. Learn how to enjoy your own company.

I started in December. No more clothes for the entire year...unless it's free because of my cash back accounts...Rakuten, Retail Me Not, Amazon 5% back or Samsung Pay. I won't be able to do the no eating out, because I am handicapped. But I am keeping it to 2-3 times or less a week.
    Good luck to everyone! 🥰

I recycle my clothes & shoes 4 forty years. I wear less clothes as l was on shorts, sports shoes & tee shirts daily. I dress down when l am home or romp around the neighborhood. But l take trouble to dress up properly for all church services or meeting up with friends 4 tea or window shopping. If l buy 🏠 hold goods, clothes, shoes or bags l pay top price & it last me till 2day. Also maintain to below 50 kg weight to enjoy my resources. With my income 1st give to to the Lord & be involve in missions. Missions is in my blood. There is a great need which i don't see, but l am very aware of them. Started very young & now its a habit. Develop good habits when you are young. The rest God will take over. Enjoying my retirement.

I tried and failed a No Spend this month! Honestly I messed up the timing and once I broke the seal… it became easier to spend more than I really needed to. In order to be successful, I think I need to start with a No Buy week before I jump into a whole month.

Instead of looking at it as a month and having to wait until another month, do 30 or 31 days, regardless what month it starts in. Let say you have to purchase something April 15, don’t wait until May 1 to start again. Let April 16 be day 1.

The fun doesn't have to be expensive, for example my friends and I are taking 2 days 1 night trip to nearby city! We set a rule that the budget for one person including gas and accommodation must fit under 35$ in local currency and usually we would go by train but one of them has a new car and drivers license but after splitting the cost of gas it's only bit more expensive than a train.

In my area we frequently have free outdoor events like local bands, symphony under the stars, free museum days. Most things do have a cost, so if you feel a no spend month is too restrictive, you might consider a low-buy month instead.

1/30/22....JAN is my birthday + my rescue schnoodle's birthday....so we 2 "girls" celebrate 🍾 all month long.
THIS is what happens to retired ladies who ARE NOT "cat ladies with 85 sick/lost/OVER THOUGHT ATTEMPT to "save the world"!
I have #1) cleaned out the freezer + cooked 🍳 😋 all our meals so NO old/expired food there.
#2) I have cleaned out the cabinets of all food items---even pet food....so all is "marked" + rotated by expiration date + I have donated what we couldn't use up in time.
#3) So NO eating out in Jan except for gift cards + "free birthday meals" @ our various restaurants.
MAKES IT EASY to end the old year 2021 + start the new year 2022 on the right step!
      KISS---KEEP It Simple Sweetheart!

I have a system that helps me out. I put back a few bucks for "my son's college fund" that can only be touched in the most appropriate situations. To ensure I don't get into the cash I have set back, not only do I say it's for my son, anything I take out absolutely MUST be paid back in double. That way, I only use the money in the most dire circumstances, and the savings pile up faster.

I don't have a person, who shares accountability, but my bank uses a piggy bank system (any purchase will be rounded to full amount and the leftover is put on that account) and I use that as my indicator - the less money on that account, the better the outcome. I know it's not why people have that account, but I think it's a nice way as I'm not comfortable talking my finances with people around me.

I’m in the midst of my NSM for April. On day 2, I had to purchase a visor, my previous came up missing and I need it for when I’m walking in direct sun. My cousins said it’s not a need, however, it’s a need for me. I use Retin-A and even with sunscreen, I’m not going to risk burning and irritation just to say I didn’t spend $10.

I wrote a list of 11 items not to buy...I started in January 2022...this is to help me on a no spend/low spend life. .it helped me realize what I am drawn to in a store...oh I also wrote down the stores I should not even be going in to be drawn to an item...lol...I have been in the stores a couple of times...not bad for a weekly shopper...I did buy 1 item of the list... house slippers...they are so cute...but if I had not been in the store in the first place... hummmm...it's a one day at a time journey, but I do feel progress

As a Uber eat driver ( side job ) I noticed that orders are less this month compare to last month. I read the comments and I know why now lol I was low spend for last two years and I paid off all my debts ( credit card, student loans and car loan). Now I am debt free and saved some money for me to purchase a house to rent out and also have money left to invest. Now I can spend a little more but I still try to avoid to spend on something unnecessary like no Starbucks or drinks which I can actually get it for free from my office. Thanks for sharing!!

I teach in college so January is a low pay month, so February is a low spend month. I ran up my credit card so that is priority 1.

The timing of this video could not have been better; I am working on a no spend challenge for the rest of the year, to build savings and increase emergency fund.

That’s definitely my goal for this year, so far I am doing great. It’s hard but I know I can do it.

It can be a little challenging, some people like to start with a no-spend week or low buy month first
