      Maple, any hardwood will be OK oak ,beech something strong that isn't going to break the first time you crash ,great simple joinery that you can make in a day, you don't see the hand made ones around any more and they are the best, will last forever

    Why did you take the time to mark all 3? You only need to mark one, and then you can use it as a pattern to mark the other 2.

    Why did you waste the back 4 or 5 inches of seating area by putting the seat back so far forward?
