    I picked up a vase, cuz I really loved it. The glaze was really nice, it was small. Like 6 in tall. It was a dollar, and I put it down and I walked around and I'm like I really like that vase I'm going to go get it. And lucky it was still there. Turns out it was a $600 vase. Woohoo.... For a dollar.

    New subscriber and I am enjoying all of your library of videos. I wanted to say that I held a Million dollar PLUS oil painting IN MY HANDS at Relics Antique Mall in Springfield MO a few years ago. It was gorgeous, bright vivid colors, in a unique style, and it cost over $100 and I didn't think I was worth it so I put it back. Yes, I meant to say I didn't think that I, myself was worth spending $100 on just because I liked it. I have changed since then, and I do treat myself more. Some time later there was a big article in the local paper that somebody recognized the artist. It sold at one of the big New York art auction houses for over a million dollars. If only.....but you see? It happens more often then we realize. Best to you and your family. Thank you for all of your hard work teaching us all about the treasures to be found. EDITING TO ADD: I googled the event: Painting recently purchased at Relics Antique Mall sold at Christie's London Post War and Contemporary Art Auction on Feb 11. The final hammer price was $1.65 million plus commission. The pre-auction estimate for the Andre Masson original was $650,000, however, the painting's provenance drove the price beyond its estimate. Masson painted it from memory after witnessing a voodoo ritual in Haiti in the early 1950s.......

    The chip would have taken down the value. Don't take auction values too literally. There's wide variability. The vase that sold for $13k was part of an Italian glass collection. That would draw the best possible customer. On eBay, you might never have connected with the high-ticket customer.

  • @evangelinegutierrez2015
    @evangelinegutierrez2015 2 роки тому +2

    Jocelyn, I have my own rule that I apply to things I find in thrift stores and such. It's my 3D philosophy. Don't Discount the Damage. Just because it has a little chip or slight damage, doesn't mean it has no value or someone will not want it. Many things have been auctioned off and sold, even with damage. I refer to Millers Antique guide. Some of the items she has listed in her books, have been auctioned off with damage at a nice price. Don't Discount the Damage. I like to see things with damage as "chipped relics". It gives the piece and I've heard you say it...."character". Just let this slide. Keep searching for your great finds and enjoy your passion for spotting them, you'll find your Picasso....I'm still looking for mine.

The one with the small chip was priced @ $80.00 and the perfect condition vase priced @ $150.00. I know that some collectors like things to be in perfect condition, but I have learned that things with chips and cracks don’t matter to some people.

    Always go with your gut!! I bought a Miss Priss teapot that had a minor chip on the base and some minor repair work up under the lid for 5 bucks. Learned from my regret on passing up on a piece of vintage Rookwood pottery that had a hairline crack for 3 bucks. Errrr. Never again.

    I left a Fenton on the shelf the other day because I thought it was supposed to be a fairy light, missing it’s lid. I looked it up later and it was actually perfectly complete as it was. 😅 The next week however I found another Fenton piece (again, left it) and went back the next day and thankfully it was still there. The second piece was worth 20 times more than the other one I left. Meaning…your eyes are honed now, ready for the next rare museum quality piece that you find!

    I always check local consignment/flea market type shops if I think I missed something. We have some local ladies who go every morning to all the donation stores and buy up everything. They take it to their consignment booth and double the price, still making it super cheap for buyers but they don’t research or check comps, and doing this, they all have made lots of money with little effort. Imagine if for every dollar you spent you got two back.

    I believe the stirrups were "buddy stirrups". They attach to a regular size stirrup to adjust for a child rider.

    • @jackijordan1556
      @jackijordan1556 2 роки тому

      Buddy stirrups are a bit smaller and usually plastic. They go over the horn so little legs can reach. Attaching to the stirrup would make it longer not shorter.

    Omg...I want that Portmeirion bowl! I started collecting a couple of years ago when I found a couple of pasta bowls in a thrift. I fell in love with the patterns, and I'm obsessed with it now! 😍 Kills me because I'm sure it's gonna end up in the dumpster if someone doesn't recognize its worth and either sell it or collect it personally.

    I feel your loss. Not as much money, but I found two vintage Coach purses at Goodwill. They felt like good leather, but I was so unsure about them as I know there are many fakes; didn't want to risk my eBay account. $8 each and I didn't take the chance; they were worth about $75 each :(

      I put out my Mom's good flatware at a garage sale for $10....12 settings of 6 pieces and the serving ware. It wasn't silver but a cool mid century pattern. It was even in the original boxes. Only used twice a year for 25 years. Thank God no one bought them! Thanks to you, I found out on Worthpoint that each individual piece goes for $10-$25. I was able to sell them to Replacements for not that total value but a lot more than $10 for the lot! So thanks for paying it forward!❤

    A reseller most likely picked it up. Everytime I go to Goodwill now there are resellers everywhere combing through and they can be quite aggressive. I had to fight a lady for a beautiful hurricane lamp in my cart that she thought she would try to steal from me. Many times though I get there after everything has already been picked clean unfortunately.

    Metternich porcelain is fine quality vintage porcelain from Bavaria, Germany. If it's Mitterteich, a cup and saucer plus desert plate could be worth about €30.00 but sometimes a lot more, depending on the pattern.
