Genderqueer woman feels like it might be correct for me. I've been physically female all my life, and even though identifying as a woman has always been fine for me, in recent years, it feels slightly more restrictive than I'd want it to. Adding genderqueer onto my identity feels like it allows me a tiny bit more breathing room, which is honestly all I need. My womanhood is still a part of me, but identifying exclusively as female felt kinda like wearing a slightly too tight shirt and needing to unbutton the top two buttons to be able to breathe.

Pretty much exactly how I've felt lately
I started out identifying as androgynous, then genderqueer, then I added nonbinary, and now I've dropped genderqueer and identify as trans nonbinary.

Trans nonbinary doesn't make sense. If you're non binary, your neither male or female. If you label yourself Trans, that means you were one sex and transitioned to another. I'm just saying.

I think you might be confused by the ancient term of "transsexual".
Non-binary folks are most definitely trans*.
... and then you will understand everything comes to being a human.
I'm pretty sure I'm genderqueer. My gender expression is mostly masculine, but I'd feel good on dresses or skirts too. Also, my gender identity mostly flows between demigender identities (between demiboy and demigirl or even genderflux or genderfluid). I rarely feel a 100% a guy or a girl. In addiction, other times I feel completely agender or gender-neutral (neutrois). Question: is a person political for labeling themselves genderqueer?
Thanks for sharing and no, you are not being political if you identify with genderqueer identity. It is only political if you yourself take political stance on it.

Is it bad that I dont want to label my gender, I use she/they I dress feminine and androgynous and I have short hair. I just feel like I like the freedom of being labelless and having no rules so I just use non binary. I experience some dysphoria I feel male some days and no gender others but my expression doesn't always change. I have a natural flat chest and my main dysphoria is around genitals but I don't want surgery because how I feel about them depends on where I am in my identity. I kind of view my body as genderless even though others gender it and I like feminine clothing because I see it as fun. I feel bad for not wanting to label further.
Great question and no, its not bad but in fact its great that you are using your brains and think outside of the label boxes. If they dont resonate, then dont use them. Its awesome that you dont have a label. Who cares as long as you are in touch with who you are and your personal relationship to you gender.

If it helps, agender is a thing! But you don’t even have to use that. I hope you’ve found a place where you’re mentally comfortable with your identity
Thanks for this video. I'm also an academic of sorts, so I really appreciate your focus on the research. Genderqueer is a term I grew up with and have only recently embraced, but I identify more with the meaning that emerged back in the late 90's / early 2000's. My disposition toward gender or the gender binary isn't exactly aligned with how the term non-binary is used now, but identifying as genderqueer is both political and personal for me.
Hi and thank you for commenting. I agree that today’s terminology change all the time and mean so many different things.
In the 90s and early 2000s the term "gender-queer" was the popular term within the gay village in Toronto, but we didn't discuss these terms with str8 ppl, as they were still coming to grips with accepting gay/lesbian as "normal."
I definitely feel that the use of gender-queer was both an identity, and a statement against the gender system.
It was a way for fem "males" or masculine "women" to push back against the norm during a period where there was almost no Queer representation in our day to day lives.
Amazing how terminology continues to change to this day.
I'm a cis demigirl (I'm on a female to non-binary spectrum in gender expression) and I was never sure what umbrella term I should use! Thank you for this video

I'm genderqueer. some days I feel like a boy, some days a girl, or a mix of the two leaning towards one. I get bad dysphoria when I feel like a boy/mix leaning towards boy because I am a born girl. My body doesn't feel right at all. I really want to fix this but my parents don't understand what's going on, even though I've come out. I don't think they want to lose their daughter, even though I'm a she, he, and a they. Its confusing I know, and it hurts me badly

So help me out here. I never really felt attached to being a male, and often reject aspects of masculinity. But I also don't really embrace femininity, though in my head I often fantasize about being female and doing feminine things. So...what am I?

imagine someone calling you by they/them, she/they, and/or she/her pronouns. doing feminine things doesnt have to do with being a female. im thinking you could be agender, (not feeling any femininity or masculinity genderwise, basically genderless) librafeminine, (mostly agender but have an attachment to feminity genderwise) or maybe just a trans female, the pronouns can really help you imagine yourself as a certain gender, hope i helped :)
Hello! I don't have exactly the same experience as you, but there are some similarities. I asked 'what am I' for a long time. But now I feel like so long as I know how I feel on the inside, I don't need a name for it. I'm just me. Maybe like me, you don't need to name it?

I suppose I feel better identifying as genderqueer, rather than nonbinary, but honestly gender is just weird to me. If pressed for a label I’d say I’m genderqueer/agender, but generally I prefer not to label myself.
I know I’m biromantic & asexual, so that won’t change no matter what my gender label is, and frankly my gender feels so nebulous and difficult to define that no one label really fits.
Even gender fluid doesn’t feel right, because I don’t feel like I’m shifting between separate distinct gender identities, but more like my gender is somewhat amorphous and as soon as I think I’ve figured it out, it shifts just a little to where I’m unsure about it again.
So I’ve pretty much just stopped trying to label it. I just say my gender is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and that I’m chill with any and all pronouns. 😊

Welp, help me. I have known I was a lesbian for a long time, I'm out to my parents and they're kinda cool about it. In the last weeks I have felt like I'm either genderfluid or non binary and I'd really really like to wear a binder. Even if I know I 100% don't identify as male, but I just... don't like having b00bs. The problem is, I can't order one myself, but I can't ask my mum for one. And I'm like so confused about my gender, it's not even funny anymore :() I don't know what to do ugh

Thanks for sharing. Great to hear your parents are supportive. Take your time to explore. IT is ok to feel confused. Gender is very confusing. You may just be identifying as a nonbinary or gender fluid and wearing a binder may really help affirm how you see yourself. Don't jump into any medical interventions.

I 100% know I don't identify as male, I'm quite comfortable in my female self and body, besides my chest. I don't even know if that means anything... It's Not abnormal for lesbians to wear binders, especially ones that are butch. I can relate to feeling uncomfortable with boobs and questioning. Women and men can wear any "gendered" clothes. But if you feel outside of the binary, I hope you find your answer. I'm questioning my gender too (I'm also bisexual, not lesbian).
I use the terms non-binary and genderqueer. Non-binary is good, because I don't feel exclusively man or woman (though certainly closer to woman).
But I like genderqueer, since it incorporates the queerness I feel in relation to gender, and doesn't imply mutual exclusivity between my gender identity and being a 'woman.'

I've been confused for a while because I go by all pronouns and I didn't feel comfortable being called male or female individually. It really changes day to day so I'm not sure if I'm non binary, genderqueer, or gender fluid

I think I’m genderqueer, I like the label and feel comfortable with it and even though I may be polygender I don’t like a label that’s so specific. My gender isn’t fixed and it’s not just one at a time and I like the label genderqueer and I’m comfortable with it.
As long as it resonates thats all good.
Eyyy, I’m non-binary and it’s kind of an “unraveling sweater” in terms of coming out... trying to explain it to someone unfamiliar with trans folks is hard

I was born female, but still aim to get top surgery and transition fully. I feel sad thinking about living my whole life as a “woman” because that is a really dissociating feeling to think about.
I used to be grossed out thinking of associating the tomboy identity with myself, because I don’t like the idea of it. I associate myself with the word gender queer
I might embrace that word now, since I’m not rushing my transition. As in if people see me that way, that is fine.
I just remember myself performing womanhood so many times, I guess that’s what people do though, right? I was living in a Christian ministry house, not identifying with Christianity or womanhood. My hair was long, I was the heaviest weight I have ever been, meaning my chest was a part of my body that was prominent, same as my curvy hips. It felt awful, everything I was felt fake. They all takes about boys all of the time and even talked about how they don’t understand how “a woman would want to be a man, because being a woman is so much easier, and they get to bear children..”
What makes me perceive myself as a man, is the way I am a protector, the way I plan on providing structure and security to my family and place I live in, the role I am meant to take on. None of that makes me feel connected to womanhood in a completely way.
I actually love my femininity and would like to have that expression within the comfort of my home in the way I decorate my room. But when I go out in the world I want to live my life as a man that looks like a man.
Since I was younger I had troubles with the way my body was curvy, and I wanted to have a flat chest. I even saw photos of myself and thought, I looked like a boy. I don’t know what that means, but I was convinced I looked like a boy in my school photos, even if nobody else did.
I can deal with people perceiving me as a woman but the role doesn’t fit for me. My friend told me once something along the lines of “there are many ways to be a woman, why doesn’t your mom understand that”.
This was after I told her about how when I told my mom I wanted to shave my head, while I was in high school, she started yelling at me saying, “do you have a d**k, you can’t be a man” “until you are 18, do whatever you want”
I lot of people who are female feel this way, like they aren’t a real woman. I just have had some serious body dysmorphia and actual gender dysphoria at times.
I currently identify as a trans feminine non binary person. I don’t connect in any way to my native male sex and do not consider myself to be a woman either. I consider myself to be a person out with the gender binary in terms of gender identity but feel much more comfortable to be feminine presenting with my gender expression as I experience dysphoria with my male secondary sex characteristics.

"Androgynous"...or "IT"...makes the most sense. They/them are *plural* terms. If one doesn't want to be referred to as him or her, then *IT* seems to be the obvious solution. ;-)

I've been doing a lot of catch up so I can learn to be more effective in communicating through my content and my own way, so I just want to thank you for what you do, for people like you and Chloe from the Chloe connection are inspirational. I identify myself as a fluid transgender woman, because while I identify with being gender fluid, I have had to live 44 years as a man. My old self is part of who I am because they were a protector and they are imprinted into my life; however, my core has been more feminine or sometimes something in-between and I decided to let her take the wheel while my more male aspect rides shotgun, both are needed to get where I want to go. My gender identity is like water and is tough to nail down, which is why I describe myself as both. I really don't like labels, but they help us define ourselves and to communicate ourselves to others, which is important, but I describe myself using both labels because that combination bests suits who I see on the inside. It's akin when we choose our names as a transgender person.

I’m really confused on my set of pronouns. I prefer to go by he/him because a lot of people called me that but will go for any sort of pronouns. I won’t get mad when someone uses she/her or they/them, even neo pronouns. I’m just very confused of my pronouns.

I've often said I might well have called myself non-binary rather than genderqueer had I been born about 5 years later, so it was cool to hear about when the terms gained popularity and basically have that backed up LOL. I didn't ever hear the term 'non-binary' back when I was looking for a word to describe my identity. Even so, I do feel like 'genderqueer' expresses my situation a little better, and I quite like the 'rebel' aspect of the word too!

Sometimes we haven’t got vocabulary to describe our experiences. See if you can express yourself without needing a label.

@@DRZPHD This is true as before I had the vocabulary to describe mine I used to tell people that I am "a feminine boy and a tomboyish girl that exists in the same body and mind". I currently use genderqueer and have ever since I discovered the term back in 2012. I did discover nonbinary shortly after which came in handy during my agender days.

Thank you. This video has been helpful and given me some ideas. For instance, when I go to the voting booth next year, instead of voting for either the Republican or Democratic candidates (knowing that one is going to win), I'm going to mix it up a bit and vote for the non-existent Independent / "Republicratic" one. Or maybe I'll just write in the word "Questioning" instead, to let the vote-counters know that I don't know how to commit to one thing or another, even though the time's up, and the election is being held that day! And for future mailings, I'll make sure they don't refer to me as Mister or Master or Mrs. or Miss or Ms., but instead as *Miristrah* Fedifero. Yes - I deserve that much r-e-s-p-e-c-t! ;-D
Or, maybe I'll just save everyone and anyone (who probably aren't that interested in my life in the first place) the effort and tell them to refer to me as *IT* . And IT shall be so! :-)

Since toodlerhood, ive gravitated towards male toys, clothes, etc. HATED dresses, dolls, pink. Was always a tom boy. I definitely posess more masculinity than femininity. Feel like an inposter when all dressed up. But i reqlIed i nevwr ecen considered if i like it hust automatically rejected it. I think i have internaize misogyny, but would this be more than just non confirming? I feel it has a lot to do with the primary perspectives i was shown in early development. I view women as weak and am insulted being referred to as one.
I don't like the word 'queer' because it is a synonym for 'strange' or 'weird'. It's an imposed term from the outside. A- or non- terms are also problematic for the same reason, whether referring to gender, religious sentiment, intelligence or otherwise. I feel beyond binary, bigger and wider than societal gender norms and roles. Through self-actualization, I feel exempt from participation and in that, is freedom.

See, myself and many of my friends like the term Queer because it's noted or seen as "strange" or "weird."
For the majority of society, especially before cell phones and the internet, Queer people were weird, odd, or strange.
Our way of being in the world, the way we view things and experience life is definitely off center.
There's a beauty in that strangeness that makes me love the term Queer/Gender-Queer.

As someone who identifies kinda in the grey area of both. My understanding was that genderqueer individuals are people who don't or do identify with being on the gender spectrum wanting to celebrate all or certain aspects of gender expression. Again, this too on a spectrum. But then in contrast being non binary, my understanding of that is people who don't identify as either or don't even acknowledge the gender spectrum to begin with. I can see where it can be interpreted as "more political" but I see it being driven by the fact that gender rolls are exhausting for some people to put up with so some people get burnt out on the idea because gender norms as we know it may come naturally to some again, that pesky spectrum, there are people that don't get gender to begin with. These people can be anyone. I've always had a clear understanding of mine that it boggles my mind people deal with it so much. I wish people can find the ability to understand themselves and hopefully accept themselves.

I’m struggling a lot with understanding if I’m gender queer or pangender. I use she/he/it/they and the neopronouns sun/suns. I haven’t found a label that matches this and so I looked into gender queer. It didn’t seem to fit so I looked at pangender but it often switches to diff genders which mine doesn’t do

hi um I’ve been identifying as a trans male for a while now. I am comfortable with he/him pronouns and have an androgynous/masculine appearance. When I was first questioning I thought maybe I was non-binary but I knew I still felt mostly male. Then I thought about being a demiboy or bigender but I just don’t really resonate with either of those. So I stuck with just trans man, but I still feel like something is missing. Is it possible that I could be a trans man and genderqueer? And if I am, then would I still be binary, or would I be under the non-binary umbrella? Or something in between? If anyone could help it would be appreciated

Good question. I’m a cross dreamer too.
I use to think that I was either non binary or gender fluid only because I still like woman but later I realized that I didn't like being a male at all and that I identified as a binary transgender woman. I realized that even if I still liked woman, my gender was still female.

Ive been identifying as trans for a few months now (female to male), but sometimes i feel extremely dysphoric at the fact that i look like a female, or i just feel like a lil bit of a femboy, sometimes i feel like im non-binary but more male, all of this happening while i still feel dysphoric about looking like a girl, all of the time, but genderfluid doesn't seem right to me, im not sure where i fit anymore, although i did say to myself that im definitely a male with feminine times, idk if thats right or not, can you maybe give me answers, please?
I’d say safely explore more. Sometimes, the labels won’t fit and you just have to go with what feels right.

I don’t understand if gender is a social construct then why do we act like it’s a real thing. Why are there departments and universities dedicated to studying a concept that’s not a real thing. And then they put out theories that don’t make any sense
Just because it is a construct doesn't make it fake! It is also deeply embedded in structures of our society and very much influences and shapes us up.
Idk, I act, think and dress masculine, but I think I would rather have a more feminine body/ appearance, what does that make me?

But the world forces the M or the F - my therapist wants me to consider the nonbinary choices. However, legal documentation forces a M or F. As someone taking hormones, it is hard to explain a MtM transition

Hey everyone!! I'm not the only confused about gender person aha well it's been about a month and a few weeks since I came out to myself as non binery and have been telling people slowly since but I've really doubted myself a lot and it makes me really lost, frustrated and depressiv3 wondering if "I'm doing the right thing" or "am I just not fitting the stereotype for a cis" am I just over reacting changing my name and wanting to have a almost completely masculine body? Ugh idk

I have I question. I identify as a male, I'm a transboy, but I'd like to be seen as a feminin boy without losing my masculine features. Right now I can't really dress feminin bc ppl will see me as a girl and not as a "boy who dresses in a feminin way" and it gives me dysphoria. But could I identify myself as a transboy and genderqueer? I'm sure im aligned to the masculine, but part of me wants to express myself in some way in between, and still be a boy. Could I be a """binary""" genderqueer? Idk if this expression is correct but I hope u can understand

@@DRZPHD so i gotta ask why do you believe in the gender spectrum. Not trying to start conflict and no disrespect. I dont believe in it, im not on the right or left of this political wall. Ive always been on top of it away from drama, forceful opinions, and aggression.
Your question is very important and I appreciate you asking in a mindful manner. My belief that gender is a spectrum comes firstly from my work as a psychologist who is versed in the development of human psyche, character, and personality. I have witnesses again and again peoples inner pre-disposition toward gender expression, role, or identity, that is different from the conventional ideas of what is male and female. Gender spectrum and expression goes way back into history, Joan of Arc for example, who felt more comfortable wearing masculine clothes and expressing Self in masculine role. I am not negating that there are two sexes (if intersex is not included) via biology. I am also not negativing biological differences. What I am personally saying is that there are sexes, but how we layer each each with idea of gender, does not work for all. Hope this clarifies. And it is of course ok if we dont agree on this.

So my view is im a bi sexual male who is white and is what i call spiritual aka i believe in god so i believe humans are as little machines ment to fall into a role. I believe the physically mentally strongest should lead the marriage and the physically strongest is the one for the grunt work. If i dated a female/male with more muscle then shed/hed be the man in the relationship. If i was stronger i would be. Smarter one leads.

I'm comfortable with Demigirl and Neutrois ... can I use them both? And does that make me Non-Binary or Genderqueer? I lean more toward Non-binary but I also have no problem using Genderqueer to describe me either. My personality is a mix of male and female ... my gender expression is more masculine/androgynous with a tiny tiny bit of feminine .... my pronouns are she/they though lately I seem to favor they/them but I'm still comfortable with she/her... I walk like a girl/neutral, sit like a boy etc... I like both boy and girl things and see no gender in toys (when I was a kid I played with Barbies and cars and dinosaurs and cowboys etc)

im novigender, the best way i can describe it is through pronouns. im fine with he/him pronouns, but i prefer my neopronoun version (ke/kim) my favorites are she/her and she/they, (i do not feel like a female but i feel a lil connection to femininity genderwise) they/them im also fine with, i cant find a gender identity that im comfortable with, novigender is most fitting to how i feel, kind of like chaos genderwise, but i dont really like that term, and i am most comfortable with the term genderqueer, can i continue to use that term or is non-binary more fitting? or maybe even genderfuzz? or is there a label for just overall chaos? if anyone reads this please lmk :)

I feel obligate to have label as sort off guideline for my post coming out journey. I don`t feel connection to most labels mainly because my country is really patriarchal everything is gendered and we don`t have english as our language. I feel that if I don`t resonate with label I can`t be sure that I will be happy after top surgery despite me wanting to have it. I am affraid that it might be wrong action but still I am tired of living in the closet and being pesiaved as cishet and with constant need of binder or bra unless I am at home.
