    They are called "shapki" and are traditional headgear. I doubt that you would call them ridiculous if they were advancing, sabre in hand! Reflect on the fact that this is a soldier's song of the 1st Patriotic War against Napoleon, and that Russians have not forgotten their past. As for Americans...

    All cossacks find their roots in the service of the Russian Empire. Before that each chapter has its own unique history, but what unites them all is their defense of the slavic culture from barbarians of all creed and origin.
    Kuban cossacks are from the Caucuses area. The costumes we see on the choir are more theatrical than accurate. Although all ethnic groups of the Russian Empire can be found in their chapter they are primarily Southern Russians and of Caucus peoples' descent.

    What a laugh! Cossacks were a social caste, not an ethnic group. Say the above in Novorossiysk and you shall find out that Russian cossacks still live and they still know how to use a nagaika! Oh... are you one of those Galicians masquerading as Ukrainians?

    "Ukrainian" is an anachronistic term that cannot be used of any person or event preceding the 19th century. The identity of the cossacks was religious (Orthodox), not national (that only came in after the French Revolution). Therefore, Ukrainian nationalists cannot claim the cossacks as their own (especially if they are Uniates, as the Cossacks hated Uniatism!).

    Hungarian is a very distinctive language and the majority of words they use are Slavic based. When they use "Magyar" words than those words have Northen Mogol origin. So, Hungarians speak the "Magyar" language which is very different from any Slavic language, but they were influenced by Slavic lang. like Slovak, Croatian, Serb...etc. Yes, Russia is the largest and strongest - for centuries now - Slavic nation in culture, literature, vocabulary development...etc. Thanks God for that!!

  • @iBox87
    @iBox87 15 років тому

    yes well, the original kuban cossack were Ukrainian, if you are a cossack means you are ukrainan, anyways if you dont belive me there is still documents from Russian empire, including statistics in what language people speak in each city, Rostov-na-donu half of the people speak ukranian in 1896. why else would they speak uranian if they were not ukrainai cossakcs . im sure you can find this somewhere on the internet

  • @Domety
    @Domety 17 років тому

    The guy is Krasnodarsky Kray (Kuban) governor Tkachov. Wide red (or blue) pants is a part of historical Ukrainian suit. The singers are wearing clothers really like the Ukrainian ones of 18th century, because the Kuban cossacks are at a big part the progeny of Ukrainians. The Kuban Cossack Choir has been existing for two centuries, & its members know what to sing better then any governor.

    They are orthodox christians. Cossacks ain't an independent nationality. They are russians or ukranians. In case of russian cossacks, they were troops who lived in new and problem territories, such as Caucasus, Siberia, Baikal, Far East. In a peace time they lived as usual peasants.
