    Can I just add, that, once you have spooled your reel, take your rod and reel, and a yard or so of strong nylon or string and a swivel, to a field. Attach your line to an object , gate , fence etc, with the swivel in the mix so that your line can twist, and run the whole thing out and give it a good pull. Then wind it all under a reasonable amount of tension onto your reel. It takes any twists out and gets everything nice and even. Works for me. Great video.

    Great video. Just asking. Should the fly line spool be upside down to when you reel it’s bottom to bottom. Like the way you did the backing was correct, the line goes on the reel underwind … should it come off the spool from the bottom side ??

    Very good, detailed video. I did spool both of my lines on my reel very easily after watching your video. Thank you .

    worked perfect! I used a long piece of plastic instead of the pen. Less risk of having it pop out of each side.

    Please remember, when spooling. You did the backing correct, however the fly line you took it from the top of the fly line and the bottom of the spool. Never do this. Always bottom to bottom. Thanks

      i've been fly fishing for 40 years and everytime i put on a new line onto a reel i always took the line off of the plastic spool! 🤦‍♂️ it never occured to me that this is the way you do it! i always ended up with a birds nest at my feet and would then spend half an hour picking it out 🤣🤦‍♂️

    Good vid but be careful with the wrap around the rod trick. I burned a tiny hole in the epoxy and I was cranking really slowly. I’ll use another method to put tension on the line next time.

    Does it really matter how you tie the backing? If you lose a fish that way, you’ll have one hell of a more exciting story and video! 🤣🤫

    • @fives645
      @fives645 3 роки тому

      The way you tie it determines if the line spins around on the spool. Just like rigging a spinning reel with braided line it can spin freely on the spool and its just a nightmare

    Why not just use the rod to push down on the spool and add tension?

  • @Pikl.
    @Pikl. 2 роки тому +4

    Don't load fly line on the reel that way. Fly line should be loaded counter clockwise to prevent line twist and coiling. You will have loads of problems if you put fly line on the way as seen in the video. Sorry but want to save beginners the waste of time and money associated with putting fly line on the wrong way.

    • @dylanredmond759

      Could you please explain which way to do it please

    • @Pikl.
      @Pikl. 2 роки тому +7

      @@dylanredmond759 yes, do like seen in the video, only difference is when attaching the actual fly line, the line should be coming out of the bottom of the spool onto the bottom on your reel. The video shows line coming out of the top of the spool onto the bottom of the reel which will cause numerous problem.

    Why does the loop of the having have to go over the spool of fly line? I don't understand it.

    • @billyhendricks6150
      @billyhendricks6150 3 роки тому

      Think of it like when you attach a looped leader to the front loop of your fly line. In that case, you have the tag end of the leader (very thin) that you can easily pull through the fly line loop. In this case, your tag end is much much bigger (the fly line cartridge), so you need a big loop in your backing fit the larger tag end (fly line cartridge) through.

    • @mattier3030
      @mattier3030 2 роки тому

      @@billyhendricks6150 couldn’t you take the line off the spool like you did in the beginning and squeeze it through a smaller loop?

      @@mattier3030
      Sure you can. It’s the same concept. However, the length of the backing loop is irrelevant. It could 20 feet if you really wanted it to be. It’s all about convenience. You could even cut the loop on the fly line and attach the backer using a nail knot. Which, would lay flatter and interfere with guides less if the situation arises. And is how it was done before looped fly line was available. Again, it’s all about convenience.
