Very impressing! Imagine doing your all day work and then suddenly such a thing happens and all hell breaks loose! Must have been hard, dangerous and quite scary times for the people who worked the derricks in the old times.
1978-86 I worked Derricks , It was not scary up top . it was under the Substructure that is where Toxic gas H2S come out and you have no idea till you smell it, Rotten eggs then it can be to late. If its over 10 part per million its deadly . 1 whiff your smell is gone then you stop breathing . I have seen 2 blow outs we shut it in . The sound is so loud a million screams .
this is kinda strange...if you look there seems to be no bop in the sub, and like others stated no blocks or drill line...blow out maybe...rig looks pretty mangled..but why the sudden surge and then it stops....weird shit happening there.
This is not what it seems.. look closely, the rig has no top drive, no blocks, no tool string hanging and no BOPs or equipment under the deck. The film crew is ready to capture it all from the right spot.
@verymodestperson They had the problem under control pretty fast. Any help the camera man would have tried would have been too little too late. That's why they have blow out preventers on the well.
maybe incident is correct word for this.. my dad has been working for total (french oil company) based in Kalimantan, Indonesia for more than 25 years..he said well this is one of the risk that we had to take in order to find oil reservoir.... anything could happen in a drilling rig, rite??
i have a few questions.... is the oil under that much pressure or what... i thought a blow out was an accident type thing...how did you know it was gonna happen... if it was a planned thing what is the point ...
Looks like production companies fault, no drilling blocks, rigging down and ready to come off the well head, maybe the braden head or surface casing lost it, weird one. Definitely came to see them before they had a tree on it.
There was a time when this happened everyone was happy and shouting , " it s a gusher , it s a real gusher. The owner would have dollar signs ringing up in his eyes , ca chang, ca chang. Then realizing all that black stuff gushing out was money being lost so he would shout to the ram rod to get his men to work and cap off the well and stop this oily mess before it gets any worse. The only gusher I ever had was when I nicked the water line with a tiller and it blew out and my wife blew out when her shower ended abruptly. Hey, shit happens.
@RockManAU You totally have no idea whats actually going on here. There is no blocks, string etc. Something's up... probably an Enform Training video or something.
I just want to know what the hell I'm looking at I don't see no blocks I don't see no blp I don't see no no mud pitch or anything like that just that silly trailer sitting off to the side what the hell happened here and where and when was this picture taken
looks like the rig burnt already and that well has been kicking for a while judging by the mangled derick and doghouse as well as the flooded lease.
well i guess thats one way to grease the crown

Amazing. Looks like Spindletop!

Let er BUCK!!! send the lease hand up the derrick on the tugger with a scrub brush!
i have a few questions....

i thought a blow out was an accident type thing...how did you know it was gonna happen...

The driller can see the weight indicators dropping. It gives a warning if he's paying attention.
@rigga40 are those some sort of new type of land dolphins?
I think that the oil is beautiful in its own way, along with the derrick.

Hey, shit happens.
Something seems peculiar, where are the blocks?
@RockManAU You totally have no idea whats actually going on here. There is no blocks, string etc. Something's up... probably an Enform Training video or something.
Hmm, is it really a desaster? Seems more like an ordinary thing, though not wanted, but no desaster.
I don´t know....
Landcruiser, enlight us! :-)
this cant be an active rig is it..its missing parts lol
Why did they wait that long to close the pipe rams??? Why was there someone video taping this?
I would hate to be the worm that has to scrub all that
Why did you wait 60 sec to apply the BOPs?
i dont get it. no drill string.... no blocks....no drill string...the rig looks mangled already..... WHATS GOIN ON HEA!!
