That happens because taxi drivers have a lot of free time, doing nothing, waiting for customers.

As a Greek it is cool to hear this, we are very proud about our heritage but more importantly a true greek is proud of all things sciences, maths, history and arts. We think it is the pinacle of humanity. We are super proud of all the different greek ethno groups that have made us and love to share it with everyone as much as we love to learn about other cultures and people.

For someone who is learning greek i am surprised by how fast some people speak
Us too!
Greek Cypriots speak twice as faster than that, I am Greek and have Cypriot friends and it's a bit difficult for me to catch up with them 😅
@@gkalenaki I don't think so. Cypriot accent is harsher and more intense. That makes it more hard to flow as fast. I think you are having some hard time to catch up because they use some unique shortcuts since Cypriot greek have unique words like that.
@@SIPEROTH one of my cousins is married to a woman from Cyprus, plus I have watched series from Cyprus. Therefore I am well aware of what I am saying
@@SIPEROTH As a Cypriot Greek, I can confirm I often have to consciously slow down for mainland Greeks to understand what I'm saying. And I have a lot less of an accent than most, people usually seem to assume I'm Dodecanese.
My family are immigrants to the US from Iraq, but before my mom and aunt and grandparents came to the states, they were refugees in Greece for a couple years. My nana told me that the kindness and hospitality is unmatched, and she's never seen anything like it. She got in an accident and had to go to the hospital, but she couldn't drive, and she had two infant children with her, and she said people came together to help her get to the hospital and a Greek friend she made took care of her kids while she recovered, that they made sure her kids ate, were bathed, warm, everything. It was amazing to her.
I'm going in just a few weeks, now. I'm so excited to see where my family lived, and I want to try and meet the people that helped my nana. I've already felt a love for Greece because of how they helped my family while they fled, but I can't wait to see the beauty of it for myself.

Living in the UK with an OK job, yes I have money to pay my bills and a little bit left to save (that is if I don't go out for coffee, drinks or food much) but I can't say that I have an enjoyable life. In Greece, things may be difficult for many but every time I am there, I never have the impression that people are miserable or unhappy (and I am not talking about tourist spots). It is possible to have fun and enjoy life in Greece, something that is very difficult up north for many reasons.
I totally agree about life in the UK. I feel the system makes you watch the clock and be ‘on time’ all the time. You finish work and have only an hour or maybe less to get to the shops and have coffee. This is too much stress. There’s a balance between employment rights of service workers and freedom of life that you get in Greece.
We are like that. We are optimistic that doesnt mean that we sont have problems

That hit very hard and I think it's wonderful to hear these words spoken by a young person. Considering how in today's society people are so quick to praise their own culture, play victims, blame others, express opinions that are either xenophobic or racist, all without hardly ever picking up a history book in their lifetime.
So refreshing to hear someone say in the most respectful way possible: "educate yourself first".

Now that the Asian power is rising, the trend is changing , and men are becoming like women...
As a Greek, I won't say that I am proud to be Greek. I'll say that I am grateful to be a Greek. A Greek should feel proud, ONLY IF he lived and worked to maintain the culture, the knowledge, the tradition and customs, music, art, politics and the ethics that represent the Greek civilization. Indeed many of us are corrupted. There's a constant fight between the corrupted and the pure souls. And yes we are undisciplined on a small portion. But we are not lazy. Most of the people, here, work their asses off to maintain the necessary.
I'm greek-italian but live in the north of Europe, nearly all my life. There are a lot of things i love about Greece. But i don't like how animals are treated! We Greek Americans refer to being late as "being on Greek time." As to philoxenia, I would say that I experienced both amazing philoxenia and the exact opposite when I lived in Thessaloniki. I choose to focus on the philoxenia! I have no actual blood relatives in Greece, but I feel like I have real family there, all because of the legendary philoxenia.
Jeez, a bad event can happen to everyone, it's no reason to bring the national average down which is at least 2 levels above anyone else. Next time you visit Thessaloniki, let me know in order to accommodate you. /s
as a greek american living in thessaloniki we should grab a coffee next time you visit
Thessaloniki is a city that's the issue. There is more philoxenia in non-tourist islands or villages
Well to be honest i have been to thessaloniki twice, indeed i found them pretty snob poeple in contrary to athens, espacialy my generation but they are not bad poeple, once you gain their trust they are one of the kindest poeples. It s just hard to meet them or approach them at first.

Well ραντεβού is a loan word and we took it straight from the french rendezvous i'm pretty sure
Haha it's so cute and hilarious you sre excited but actually it's because we borrowed it from french
This is the exact same word, it's a loanword from the French language!
It’s very sad that English people are considered ‘ill-tempered’ or ‘quiet’. This is a common misconception which you can only see if you know both cultures (family on both sides, I mean). The English seem that way because it’s how we perceive we need to act around strangers (politeness) once you know us you’ll find us loud, warm and loving. My Greek family, love how warm my English family are. People everywhere have default stereotypes about other countries and they are largely perpetuated in our societies by people who’ve probably never experienced it for themselves. I blame the media a lot.
They asked this question in Athens, that's why. These people haven't really worked in the tourism industry and don't know British people. I'm from an island and worked in the tourist industry for years, and British people are the ones who make the most noise and are generally the "bad" kind of tourists here because they drink too much and party like animals. For me this isn't bad, I like lively people, however there are many extremes to this like violence and other bad acts. I also enjoy talking to them the most, probably because they can hold a conversation in English unlike other people from countries like France and Germany.
@@MementoMoriGrizzly sadly our tourists are generally awful. The island holidays are disrespectfully marketed and I feel sorry for the islanders. It’s the same with any society. We have our good and bad people. The cheap holidays tend to attract the bad.
@@MementoMoriGrizzly The person who answered that wasn't from Athens, but from somewhere in Macedonia. To be fair, I don't think we can judge people as a whole solely from how they behave when they are drunk. Indeed I have noticed that societies where people keep their distances from one another and have large social bubbles tend to overindulge in alcohol in a way societies like that of Greece generally don't, but I think that the quietness and loudness, depending on the blood alcohol level, of people such as Brits and Danes are both sides of the same coin.
I actually don't think that most Greeks think of the British as being "quiet" , if you've ever been to a Greek island that is touristy in anyway even if you are unfamiliar with British people or culture you would know better.
Lots of Brits are very social , warm and open people. The "cold" stereotypes in Greece are mainly about people from central and nothern europe mostly

A fact about Greece is that in politics we are very very inhibited "philosophers". Greece from 1830-2022 got mixed with politics so bad. We have many political events that changed Greece so much. Many civil wars and animosity dominated Greece. Greeks are extremists with football teams and political parties. For example there is a bunch of communists and leftists in every city and there are many rightists and nationalists. Extremism really took over Greece more than any other country today.

There is a certain wisdom and liberalism in Greek society because they know their history lasting at least 3 thousand years. Don't be fooled by the religious element. The Greek people are one of the most Liberal-minded, tolerant peoples in Europe. For instance, divorcees can marry in church, unlike say the Anglicans. Married women keep their own surname..
About "Greeks being late", it is not as much as we are always planning to be there exactly on time. For example if we have a date at 17: 30, we will plan to be there exactly at 17: 30. If something happens in the meantime, we will be late *but* with an excuse.

@@EasyGreekVideos I am learning Greek for almost 5 months every single day on Duolingo, it looks fine while I do lessons in the app, but when I play your videos, especially these street polls I don't understand anything :) :) :)
We don't
@@ekspresija101 Duolingo doesn't prepare you for natural language.
It depends. Some people talk faster, others not so much. I usually talk in a normal pace, but I tend to speed up a lot when I am nervous or angry.

Exw gnwrisei ligous ellhnes pou ta kseroun auta, fainesai polutaksidemenos file mou! taksidevontas mathainoume oti den einai ola opws mas ta eipan!
Im in love with that one giggly girl 😅😊
Such a beautiful people
Magnifique!
Here in Australia, there are many Greeks and children of Greeks (and grandchildren). One of my Greek friends who was born here to Greek parents came back from a visit to Greece and told me "sex is always on the mind of all Greeks". I told her "Ok, I'll take you at your word but I don't think that Greeks are the only ones like that" 🤣🤣🤣

Imagine knowing your ancestors once fought in a phalanx formation.
I had friends, Greeks who studied in my town. They were all hairy and they told me Poles trihes, thermos andras.
1:21 thats what we call αλάνι (alani, cool guy who is hunging out in the streets but is not an asshole) in Greece!!!! you make me proud lil fellow!!
Most alania in Greece are assholes and people without manners.

kínara or kinára? Thanks
Greeks do live long they are known to have one of the healthiest cuisines in the world. Lifestyle also plays a crucial role.
Yep. Spending the day eating olives and not working. Seriously, that'll keep you alive forever.
@@pervisgavin1730 Much more than just Olives! And it takes a lot of hard work to collect and process those olivesn
Greece is a country that taught values such as democracy, politics, philosophy to almost all of Europe and the sad thing is that nowadays there is not a single one of them applied in the country.
I’m a Greek from Australia and I have noticed that the way young Greeks pronounce the letter R is different to what it has always been. It usually is a rolled R but now it is changing. Don’t know whether Greeks from Greece have noticed it.
Not aware of any shift myself
@@EasyGreekVideos our parents here in Australia don’t have that R. Films from the 80s and before don’t have it either

The greek bald man is very optimistic guy lol but he tells the truth too greetings from tunisian community in germany to all Greeks
You found the only non-Greek on this video to listen to. Wrong. He says “we are Balkans” while many other Balkaners believe it, when they actually come to Greece, they realize how different here the atmosphere is. The only correct term to describe Greece, Greeks, and the atmosphere here is, we're simply Southern Mediterranean Europeans, only. That's it. Take it however you want, whatever that means. If you actually walk in a Greek, Italian, and a Spanish city, you will essentially find not as many differences. Many more you will find in case you move from Greece to North, in Balkans.

In Greece we have flags in islands we are not like usa
Just look at how many things in your daily life and language has it's roots in Greece.
I think only native Greeks should be interviewed for these type questions.
Exactly
nationality or ethnicity wise?
Stereotypes are a cosy way to reprimand someone when you have nothing tangible against the person. Every language have a panoply of derogative terms ready to serve stereotypes, but, well, those who judge others (unfavorably compared to one's self) are anxious for themselves. By the way, those proud for their nation are ignorant about history and content themselves with political fictions. Open-minded students of history are more reserved, as usually, praised leaders are proved (not so) little monsters and supposedly heroic nations follow suit - but, obviously, only the former get the lion's share of the profit letting bloodshed for the latter.
Wow such a wide range of accents. At least to my ears. I know they were all speaking greek, but I swear I heard some Japanese and some Spanish and some piglatin lol.
Phonetically, Spanish and Greek are similar, but just the way that they sound.
Not only! They have many more similarities that make each of these languages easy to learn for speakers of the other.
