And to Frieren, Fern is always gonna be this little baby, even when she’s old and after she’s gone. It’s almost incredible when we’ve seen anime after anime do relationships between ‘very old being who looks young’ & ‘younger person they love who will age faster than them’ and this manages to make it fresh, funny and real.

So possibly ,heiter told him alot about it , since frieren as a standard is the greatest start of all . Heiter as awesome and op priest as he is ,is still humble letting frieren be the one to teach fern and as example what proper mage would be .
What's there to be confused about? It shows her talent at mana concealment. It foreshadows how she's able to capture the Stille bird in the first class mage exam so easily.
