Having the test as a single-unit hypo is a good idea for gameplay. The glass "breaking" whenever the blood reacts violenly, thus proving the tested are also "things", is a good touch to the axiety- inducement necessary for this genre. John carpenter once mentioned during an interview that he'd actually be on board with another body-horror mind-f### game series known as "Dead Space", a personal favorite of mine.
It's technically meant to be a reference to the OG film since the "chemical" in question is likely meant to be something that has heat applied to the sample and in the movie, the blood of a thing reacts violently to heat.
Well, back then I wasn't ready to understand deeper, but this game did something extremely serious that none of The movies ever did: Opened a communication Channel with The creature! For the Very First time in history The creature talked as being really itself and not disguised! (Final Boss). If this is Canon, Which I believe It is, then It's indeed an amazing deed!
I agree, it demonstrates that the Thing has actual intelligence and is not just a mindless parasitic monster, and that sequence finally reveals its motives(only if it’s canon, of course).
@@FireXConorin original movie this thing actually tried to built spaceship to back to their homeland Probably to escape from earth or tried to called their species
@@ryananggoro493 I remember that bit in the movie, I’m just saying that this game further explains the Things intelligence, lets us know that it has a true agenda.
15:06 okay maybe there's something else in the game that explains this away, but i'm pretty sure the alien should still very much be feeling IMMENSE PAIN from being ON FIRE. it certainly never liked being on fire in the film! so uh, it just suddenly having zero reaction to being set ablaze here (and then _monologueing_ ) is... kinda weird.
Kinda shocked that, out of all the 80s horror titles out there, the Thing hasn't had any other games besides this one. You'd think, with there being a bunch of multiplayer social deduction games, that we'd get whoever owns the IP to this movie franchise in on the craze. Like would ideally love a singleplayer experience, but with multiplayer games being the big thing, I could see a TTT/Among Us-like coming out for the Thing; most of the players're researchers in the artic, trying to do their roles & one player's the thing, assimilating those that're around.
I don’t think could bear the body horror 😭 The movie scared the crap out of me as a kid! Gave me nightmare for weeks! Still, would be kinda interesting to see how it would turn out.
The trust system this game had was beyond anythimg ive eber seen, as a kid i didny understand why my uncle and my dad seperated everyone, and when i finally played it 20 years later i realised why, sometimes teammates who got 0 trust started to shoot you and even turn on the spot. I got so good st keeping people alive I had like 6 guys all the way through
I want to know as well, but I guess something to do with his immune system or the dumb theory I've read is that he is already infected. A few people have done like a theory on the 1982 The Thing alien cell. An example is Roanoke Gaming. But he covers the movie and not the game.
@@rodo9813 only logical conclusion i can come to is maybe his genes are weird and they make it so the thing cells cant assimilate his like everyone else
@@rodo9813 if he was infected then the test would have shown it. heck you can test yourself several times during the game to prove to your allies you are a human to boost their confidence in you.
If they ever do an alien isolation like game of the thing this would be the most terrifying game of all time. I would play it over and over 💯. But well if you are touched or cut one time by it, you are contaminated so .. it wouldnt be an easy game to do
Always reminded me of Extermination (2001) even though that's the spinoff. Similarly imaginative grotesque horror, but it actually tried to deal with contamination as a timer and health bar, inventive but also difficult, not to mention a few plotholes lol.
YOOOOO I LOVE EXTERMINATION! i _never_ hear/see anybody else talk about that game! the monster designs in that game are just *chef kiss* beautiful. and yeah the whole bit of having to manage your health plus infection level was a neat idea. and i loved the detail of like, going back to areas from earlier in the game to see just how much the fleshy infection has spread, really put into perspective how out of control the whole H0213 thing was getting
@@attackfrogs I know right? Forgot I had it for years because I thought it was a resident evil ripoff lol. Loved how they shown the progression of it spreading through the plant, differentiating it from just another zombie apocalypse or the Thing by having it actively interact with the environment; while I liked the idea of the infection being a mechanic it always seemed a bit too difficult, but then again I never was good at 3rd person tank controls. But the only thing that bugged me was the ending, because it created one hell of a plot hole from seeming to be rushed.
From what I heard, apparently the game system of testing crewmates is entirely scripted. Some crewmates will always become monsters, even if you just tested them as not being so in a previous level. But, they did originally have plans to make it so it was entirely random, thus making every run unique, but this was cut due to either budget and/or time. Still, a modern take on a Thing game would be HUGE. The horror of dead space mixed with total paranoia of not knowing who is friend or foe would be incredible.
The positive thing about this Alien is they just tried to make spaceship to come back to their planet not to conquer earth(I mean the movie not this game )
