  • **Apologies for the random noise peaking throughout the video, I think my camera's audio port is dying :/ **
    Following my last video tutorial, I decided to further explore the possibilities of what can be done at home with Unreal Engine, a TV and an iPhone.
    As an experiment, I tried to shoot a little "product reveal" style video using Unreal. In this video I'll share some tips and lessons learned.
    Enjoy!

    Amazing vid man. Got a couple tips that will hopefully help you in the future.
    1- Instead of hiding gizmos. Press G on the keyboard to enter Game mode. It hides all those messy Hud icons. You can also press F11 after that for full screen.
    2-Add a post processing volume to your scene. Search unbound and make sure it is ticked. It now applies to your whole scene. This will help solve two problems. Adjusting exposure can bring the scene down uniformly to make it easier to match your lights exposure. You can also adjust the colour temperature in the post processing to make the footage less blue. Tv’s are closer to daylight and might be what was tripping you up.
    3-Last tip. Ndisplay chugs a computer more so than a standard scene. When you do a setup, maybe aim for a 720 canvas instead of a 1080 for testing. Good-luck and looking forward to your next adventure!

    Omg this is the most interesting video on the internet right now for home cooked virtual production. EXACTLY what I want to start doing. I'll be glued to your videos from here on. Thank you for sharing this. If I may share one advice from a creator who really made it thanks to youtube, it would be to GO FOR IT. Buy the freakin short throw projector and whatever else you need. You'll soon find yourself as the go-to resource for virtual production for creators and a very healthy business where sponsors will be dying to get in. Anyway.

      The fun thing is, I made that original video in like 2 hours expecting it to get 50 views 🫠
      But yeah, I will definitely be diving further into this rabbit hole in the future
      Thanks for the support! 🙌🏻

      Sounds exactly like my story haha. Then suddenly you find yourself with 100,000s of views and a huge business. Virtual production isn't easy to figure out, without going for star tracker or something for $300k for just the track plus an entire graphics team - not exactly great for youtubers. @@MaxRovensky

    The Mac Studio M2 should make this workflow easier

      I'm about to test it with M3 Max MacBook Pro, which is apparently comparable in performance to M2 Ultra, will report back 🫡

    Yo Like the tutorial, this is something I've been wanting to get into, I even bought a UST Projector with a 150in screen. And thanks for your last video with how to set it up with a iPhone. I actually started and recorded my first video.

    I loved the insight on the challenges!
    Two questions though:
    1) Regarding point 4, decreasing TVs brightness 🔆 wouldn’t work? And then lowering the exposure in camera?)
    2) what kind of 2year old laptop was lagging after 10 minutes? What are the specs?

    • @MaxRovensky
      @MaxRovensky  6 місяців тому +1

      1. It probably would 🤔
      But also then you're reducing the highlights, which may not be what you want for the particular shot, and cranking the exposure will start introducing noise. Hence why my idea is to have the TV at full and use brighter lights to compensate, it's what you'd normally do with a backlit background
      2. M1 Pro 16 inch MacBook Pro with 16 gigs of RAM
      16 gigs shared with the system is not super great for Unreal, even if it is fancy Apple magic unified memory. I don't think it would be an issue on >M2 and would probably fly on M3 Max.
      Though I'd probably still prefer a 4090 for intense graphics workloads

    It’s also frustrating to have the scope of the shot limited to the relatively small surface of the TV

    • @MaxRovensky
      @MaxRovensky  6 місяців тому

      Longer lenses help mitigate it
      On my 77”, a 35mm lens makes the effective visual range of motion about double
      But say, a 50mm, due to its increased parallaxing will make it seem like there’s a lot more stuff behind the subject cause it moves faster and further

    Hey Max, new subscriber here , this might sound stupid for some ppl but ill ask anyway, would this work for a music video, or can you make a music video using this method ?
    Thanks!

    • @MaxRovensky
      @MaxRovensky  2 місяці тому +1

      It would, but your limitation will be the screen size
      People actually do music videos with Unreal on big proper LED wall displays
      Depends on what you’re trying to do, but you’ll likely need a bigger surface, like a projector at least
