We are living the same life
😂😂😂
It is easy to play the harp, but hard to play the harp well.
The better you get in playing an instrument - the easier it will feel.
Of course you then want to play music that is more difficult.
That's another topic ^^
Bro I can u can everyone can play every single instrument but not everyone can't match it with tunes or song 😂😂 have u got what I am talking??
From my experience as a piano player learning harp I can tell: it's one of the strangest things I could imagine ^^ At the piano we have to "attack" the keys and then keep them down, if we want the sound to go on (or use the pedal which leads to other problems). Harp is like a piano with the pedal pressed down all the time: you have to leave the strings for getting a sound. On the piano the fingers 4 and 5 are playing the high notes (in most cases the melody), at the harp the 1st finger plays the highest notes. When you have some sort of color blindness like me, it's quite tricky to distinguish the C's and F's. On the other side scales are much easier than on the piano: same fingering in any key!
But besides all these little obstacles: harp is such a wonderful instrument and the sound is so beautiful! It really pays out to overcome these hurdles with continuous practise and some helpful instructions :-)
Well-said!
Learning good finger technique is a bit challenging when you're teaching yourself but I know it will be worth the effort!
It helps to have a music background. I don't think learning the harp is difficult but it does require practice, hand repetition, challenging (for me) finger positioning, and diligence. Loving the harp makes it easier to expand on knowledge and tackling problems to become the best harpist you can be. (Even when I make mistakes my family enjoys the sound of my harp and my dedication.)
I think it depends on your motivation for playing in the first place; if it's something you just really want to do, you don't put yourself under undue pressure, accept it will be a learning journey and commit to that, then it will never feel hard - with practice, of course. If you approach learning any new skill without patience, it will always become frustrating. The harp really lends itself to enjoyment, so just go with it and notice all the small improvements - there will be lots of them!
Coming from a singing and playing recorder background I find it hard to let my two hands do different things at the same time. Having said that, as long as you manage to pluck the right string harp tends to sound good at a very early stage. But there's always scope for improvement. That's what I love about such a devilish 'simple' instrument!
I’m struggling with both hands together if playing different notes with each hand and when trying to play opposite directions.
You have convinced me that I absolutely can do this. I looked at a couple of other teachers but your enthusiasm, energy, and the way you explain and teach is extremely encouraging and engaging. I am an elementary music teacher and am getting ready to retire. You have convinced me that I CAN DO THIS! I am now learning the guitar after several attempts but finally got serious after I had to teach ukulele to my Kg & 1 students. I am excited to take my piano skills and transfer them into strings. I look forward to coming back to your pages once I have purchased my harp and am ready to begin! 😊
Fantastic, I’m excited for you! Get back in touch when you’re looking to buy your harp, because I have some coupon codes that can give you 10% off certain harp brands 😊 All the best with your guitar in the meantime!
When I started learning to play, almost four years ago, I had already studied piano, and played piano badly. However, I had learned that in order to improve, I had to practice. It turned out that I was right in believing that this also applied to the harp. Being a very late beginner, my progress was slow, but enjoyable, and at the beginning of my third year I could see a real difference. I am still taking lessons, still practising, and still loving it.
It's not easy but it's so worth practicing. SO relaxing. You're doing a great job, Christy-Lyn!
I started about 2 months ago with virtually no knowledge or experience, except playing around with a cheap lyre I got late last year.
I'd agree with everything you've said, at least based on my very limited ability. But even in such a short time I have improved simply by applying some of the correct techniques. Not that I do it well but am seeing progress.
Totally agree with everything in this video! You are doing such good work Christy-Lyn!
Thanks Samantha! Well done for your recent album release, exciting stuff hey!! 🤩
I've been studying harp for almost 4 months now and it is satisfying, however, there are times when your hands have to do the most unnatural things...... The feeling is similar to riding a bicycle with the pedals at a 90 degree angle. :) And yet, we persevere, knowing that in time, all things will fall into place ...... Is it frustrating? Yep...... but certainly not worth throwing up your hands and walking away forever. It has become a personal challenge to me to force my hands into submission....
Thank you, Learning the Harp with Christy-Lyn 🌸 already encouraged by your words
It gives so much joy, worth it the hard work.
I've had that childhood dream of wanting to try playing the harp; I have lots of experience actually playing flute though, which is a totally different instrument, but maybe in the future once I'm able to get one, I'll try learning how to play one.
Having played guitar for many years and understanding how chords work, the main thing for me is learning good technique. I don’t read music but learn songs by ear. There are some excellent resources online and every teacher seems to have a real joy about playing their harp. Christy-Lyn is a real ray of sunshine and even if I’m having a ‘bad’’ day I always feel happier and inspired after watching her. So is it easy or hard to learn to play the harp? Depends on your reason for wanting to do it and how much you’re prepared to practice. It is a lovely community to be part of though!
Very good . Christy thanks for sharing
Man I'd be thrilled if I could just play the first five seconds of this video
I'm getting my harp next Monday and I'm so so thrilled!! Thank you so much for your videos
Eeeeee!!! 😃😃😃🎉🎉
As a long-time guitar and ukulele player, I am just now starting to play the harp, starting out on a levered 15-stringer...thanks for your tutorials, and the demo you gave a 4:05 was 😂 hilarious!
Anything is easy if you place your heart into it ☺️
I’m going to save up my money for a harpsicle for my first one (I’m really poor) but start out with a lap harp that’s literally flat. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the harp
Beautiful 💜
I started playing just 3 weeks ago (as a total instrument beginner) and I am already able to play some simple songs with my right hand and sometimes involve the left one for one or two notes.
But now I am trying to learn a piece were the left and right hand do different things at the same time and it´s really challenging. But I am also excited to try and master this!
Keep it up! A tip: try to work on super easy pieces when learning hands together, and take just one or two measures at a time to get really familiar with a small chunk (with both hands) before you move onto the next. It’ll get easier! 💕
@@LearningtheHarp I will definitely keep that in my mind! Thank you for the great support you giving everyone on this channel (and the fb-group too!), it´s very reassuring to have a place to ask questions :)
Thank you

Hi Christy! I've been playing the lever harp for 4 years. I am grateful to have an amazing teacher and take 1 lesson every week. I perform whenever I can. Learning to coordinate hands is quite a curve, but you become more accustomed with more practice. Playing the harp is truly addictive. I love it so much .XOXO to you Christy-Lyn!
Your videos are always so timely and helpful. I was having a bad day yesterday with my harp playing and this just motivated me to keep pushing on. Thanks for always inspiring me. Today is already starting out better!
Hey been thinking about getting a harp for the low any idea what brand I can get ?
I have no prior knowledge of playing but I love the harp. I did get some 1 to 1 lessons at first and they were so valuable. I learn so much from Christy_Lyn, I love her style of teaching and that she teaches music that appeals to adults. Is it easy to learn? Not for me but with Christy_Lyns help it is doable😃. My harp is my most cherished possession.
Will be formation of a chord on the piano be represented in the same way on the harp strings??? Following the same notes to form the chords??? 🙄/🇧🇷
I play the flute...it was easy. Always loved the Harp. Jumping in... Not afraid.
Getting your fingers on one hand to do opposite of what fingers on other hand is doing required lots of coordination.
Someone donated a small harp to my daughter's high school orchestra. The director told my daughter, "See if you can figure out how to play this thing." And she did a simple solo a couple months later at the Christmas music performance.
Hi, I'm Kelly. Could you tell me which harp is best for beginners?
Hi Kelly. How exciting that you’re thinking of getting your first harp! 🤩 There isn’t one best harp for beginners, there are a lot of things to consider and it will depend on how much you want to spend, what you like, where you live etc. I suggest you watch my video titled “What harp to buy - everything you need to know”. All the best! 😃
What harp is that? I really want to get a small harp that i can carry around sort of like someone can with a guitar. I think thats the exact size i've been searching for, but i dont know what to search up to find it.
This is from Harpsicle Harps 😊👍🏻
In the first months of flute, you don't have any sound not that you have any.
I've been playing the Lyre for a year or so and I kinda wanna transition to the harp, is this a good idea?
Sounds like a great idea to me! 😄🥳
best good quality harp for a begginner ? Where can one buy it?
That depends on your budget and what you’re looking for. You can watch my video “Buying a harp: everything you need to know”.
My harp's in the mail!!!
My harp's in the mail!!!
My harp's in the mail!!!
Anyone here have hypermobile fingers? Were you able to do it?
now i need one :(
Why dont you learn the note first by downloading the harp app? I think its goodfull bcz i also download the app... Its also quite for not interupting your neighbour day lol😂
SOMEONE BUY ME Harp I want to learn.
Do harpist ever use picks?
Finger picks that is.
Some harpists use them as a special effect, but it’s more experimental and not a regular harp technique - at least for my kind of harp. There are wire strung harps which are played with the fingernails, so I wonder whether they might use fake nails or something similar if they don’t have long fingernails. But I have no experience with that kind of harp technique so I couldn’t say!
is that a Zimbabwean accent??
Naked piano
I dont understand you? Can you repeat that 🤣
is harp only for girls ?? i'm boy and i love harp sound but i see only girls play it 😑😑
Hey, harps, and any instrument or activities are for any gender. If you want to learn harp, go out and learn harp, and if anyone makes fun of you then they suck
Gender is not a limit in music
In bible david plays harp can play any gender
No, of course not! There are many male harpists in the scene . I'm an old man and "harpsick" since over 30 years and decided that it is really time bis to start playing the harp myself. I am 73 years old and have fun!
@@berndkayser8726 Unfortunately boys/men may have to buy more expansive BIGGER harps even from the start to get strings spacings wide enough for their bigger hands and fingers.
