Stevie, I've been playing for 40 years.... About a year ago, I was jamming with some friends and the subject of 'first song' came up. @Бразилец And you're being hateful for no reason. Metallica and Slayer lyrics can indeed talk about life/society in a more artsy form. This song's lyrics were relatable and recognizable. However, it doesn't make it more meaningful.
For a punk-ish song put together by a bunch of hugh-schoolers in early\mid 00's it actually sounds very decent. Nice guitar riffs and good lyrics without unnecessary screams, swearing and excessive edginess. I mean, of course it's not mixed, mastered or even gain-staged, but let's be fookin' realistic here, show me a 16-17yo kid from the early 00's who knew what these things even meant, let alone knew how to do them. So yeah, just like the majority of the comment section here, I think it would sound great if re-recorded properly.
I can't see why Steve is embarrassed, I'd be proud if i were him. The riff is sick, the lyrics are something lots of teenagers (including me years ago) can relate to. The first song me and my pals wrote was far from being that catchy. Also, cranking out such a solo at 17 after 2 years of playing is pretty much astonishing. The CD cover also rocks BTW!
yeah i mean, cmon, the first song i wrote [on my own but still] literally only had the muffled lyrics at the start "i cant find a way to get past these cars in the woods" and you guessed it, thats a metaphor for, roadblocks in life!! but seriously, it sucks.
This is the most uplifting and inspiring song I've ever heard giving the fact that it was written by a bunch of 16 year olds (and an older guy that worked at Walmart). I like how Stevie tries to undermine it even though deep down he knows it's a banger 🔥
Duuuuuude. Yes !!!! This early sounding music just slaps so hard. Brought back so many memories of high-school bands. Band practice. And just a forgotten era !! Absolutely loved it.
It always goes this way in beginners bands. That one guy really wants to play metal, but everyone else wants to play something else, so he tries to push at least something "metal" in the band while no one is looking.
I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself - it’s still a badass song. Lot of punk elements. And for only playing for a few years it sounds excellent even today.
Stevie, there’s no need to be insecure about the music you write when you were younger! The music is actually really good, and it has only improved over the years. You’ve grown tremendously when it comes to your guitar skills and music taste. You should honestly be proud of your younger self; it set you up for the success you have achieved currently. I love your music and your humour, keep rockin’!
Honestly, I would barely have noticed the “sloppiness” that you mentioned if I had heard this song somewhere else without knowing the context. I think it’s totally acceptable under the circumstances in which you were, and I would definitely suggest you re-recorded it! Great job!
You got a lot of talent, Steve. Not to mention love for your music. To have started playing with a band since high school shows that this is what you were meant to do. Sounded great!
When I read the video's title I was alredy laughing but at the end I didn't laugh at all! That is good material and I think that you should recorder it again with your actual skills. I'm sure it will be amazing. If you do it, JIMMYYYYYY will go straight to my playlist
Listening to my old songs when I was young is actually really enjoyable. Theres something about it that only you understand because you made the songs. I think it brings back memories of a better time honestly when you listen to music you wrote.
You know what, the lyrics actually really reminds me of The Offspring's "The Kids aren't alright". Couple that with a Metallica-ish solo and you definitely get this. You definitely hear the influences.
I mean for someone like me who has been only playing for a year and a half, this is a big inspiration and motivation, so for what that's worth thank you so much Steve!!
Yeah I just posted that lmao...didn't see your comment, it sounds like their first 2 albums for sure...BEHEADED!!!! WATCH IT SPURT LIKE A GARDEN HOSE!!!
This song may have been inspired by Saint Jimmy by green day because 1: Saint Jimmy was released in 2004 and he recorded this in 2004 when he was 17 2: Steve also says he likes green day especially in the 2000s 3: Jimmy and Saint Jimmy and the Saint Jimmy story arch have a lot in common. 4: This would be 2 years after Steve bought Warning by green day for 12 bucks

Hey Jimmy T, that was an awesome song. Slightly sloppy guitar playing but honestly, not THAT much. From that recording, we could already feel the tremendous talent that flows through you. Thanks for sharing this with us ! [EDIT] The first riff and the solo are great btw !
People in their 30's aren't as angsty as teenagers are, songwriting comes from a specific state of mind at a certain point in life, everything else is just commercial stuff... So that boat you're pointing at may have sailed :D
I am soooo happy my band's demo from high school was on cassette tape and there were only 4 or 5 copies floating around. I can't imagine how horrendous we sounded back then. I had only been playing about a year when we stayed playing parties and local gigs. Fun times for sure though.
This was actually dope man. I like seeing how you've improved. Plus all the nostalgia of listening to old songs like this. I love listening to my highschool bands songs. Just to remember how much fun it used to be
I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. It definitely gives me heavier punk vibes. I gotta tell you, for only having played for a couple years...well lets just say I wish I could play that good after many years!! I would love to see you re-do this...it was a very cool tune, and I see others agree 🥰. This will be stuck in my head all day 🙃
Thanks so much Andrea! Heavier punk vibes for sure!! You can definitely hear the metal inspiration in there! Before I went FULL metal! Haha! I was thinking about re-doing this song.. Thought I'd see what everyone thought of it first! 😃
Can't get it outta my head! It's so catchy. If u released it, as a 16 or 17yr old it've been a hit. But I personally think u shud re-record it. Anyways thank u for sharing this amazing song with us Steve!!!!
Ah, memories. Haha. Seeing you react to this was so much fun. 😄 You’re definitely a lot more brave than I am because I wouldn’t want anyone to see anything I did in high school. 🤣 And it’s so awesome that Hot Topic sponsored this because I feel like that was everyone’s jam back in the day. Going on the weekend to get cool band tees and then wearing them to school the next week was the apex of our high school experience I think. 😂 And, OMG, those pics! You were super cute! 😄
Thanks Sarah!! I was VERY reluctant to do this video! I don't think anyone wants to reveal something they did when they were teenagers! 🤣 OH I used to LOVE getting band shirts at Hot Topic!!! In my early UA-cam videos, I would wear TONS of em! Haha! STILL wear the pants though!
Having a rough day today but this wiped off all the sadness away! Thanks Stevie! I love the song! Don't be ashamed of it! I dont know how to play the guitar at that age. 😅
Sounds like Iron Maiden at beginning…also look at Steve’s face when he’s reminiscing the lyrics: especially 4:24-4:30 the “never had a girlfriend/gonna die a virgin “ his face almost says. Wow it’s 14 years later and I still am the same …Lmao… him looking down after listening, that is a dead giveaway…amazing how our bodies have “tells”…..Steve’s cool,a little neurotic, but a good guy inside…
I'm so glad you shared this with us😊 I think now that you have, the song needs to be recreated so we can all hear the more advanced version of the song 🤘 kinda makes me think of the band Silverchair. I have their garage band version of "tomorrow" from when they were 18, then I have the remade version after they got some more experience in. Be cool to hear how Jimmy would sound now with all your mad playing & singing skills😎
Silverchair was my jam back in middleschool! I agree! I think it'd be really cool to hear an advanced version of Jimmy with Stevie's improved guitar and vocal skills!! 🤘🖤
Oh wow! I remember Silverchair!! If I recall correctly, they kinda had a 'raw' sound to begin with. Our demo was VERY raw. Perhaps an updated recreation with modern technology and skills may have to happen! 🤔
I think you should do a modern day version of it, seeing as you've improved so much over the years. I feel like there's something cool about reviving old material
You were rocking the guitar better than me Stevie. I've been playing for 5 years and I can't even nail a single riff let alone a frickin solo. You still rocked at 16!
Jimmy totally gives me hardcore Silverstein vibes, I can 100% see it being a bonus track from When Broken Is Easily Fixed or Discovering The Waterfront 🤘
Hey, I just wanted to say that I love your videos and I’ve watched them long enough that I’ve been inspired to start learning guitar myself, and I just got one for Christmas. You’ve totally shaped my music taste, and you’re a super cool guy to watch when I’m bored. Merry Christmas, Stevie!!!!

*And an older guy that worked at Wal-Mart
Pos hardcore
@@gorahott8647 nah if you ignore the vocals it's melodic hardcore
Yeah, if they still have the tracks, they should mix and master it
This genuinely made me smile bro. You've made your younger self happy for sure.
My name is Jimmy and this song is basically my life story lol
You should re-record this song now that you are a super skilled musician.
This this this
Yes
Yessir
Yes yes please
Let's make this a trend
This is the most uplifting and inspiring song I've ever heard giving the fact that it was written by a bunch of 16 year olds (and an older guy that worked at Walmart). I like how Stevie tries to undermine it even though deep down he knows it's a banger 🔥
I can't stand it when people do that
Duuuuuude. Yes !!!! This early sounding music just slaps so hard. Brought back so many memories of high-school bands. Band practice. And just a forgotten era !! Absolutely loved it.
he was readdy to cry.He remember his teenager life and those days were golddddddd
That solo was absolutely amazing, I’m obsessed with it
The fact that Stevie played punk with a warlock guitar, demonstrates he was mental from the beginning.
It always goes this way in beginners bands. That one guy really wants to play metal, but everyone else wants to play something else, so he tries to push at least something "metal" in the band while no one is looking.
Stfu i wanted to do the same thing but i ended up with an explorer
I looked like james hetfield with all the downpicking i was doing at the time
Ever see Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein’s guitar? It may have more points on it
I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself - it’s still a badass song. Lot of punk elements. And for only playing for a few years it sounds excellent even today.
This is genuinely so sweet and adorable
Stevie, there’s no need to be insecure about the music you write when you were younger! The music is actually really good, and it has only improved over the years. You’ve grown tremendously when it comes to your guitar skills and music taste. You should honestly be proud of your younger self; it set you up for the success you have achieved currently. I love your music and your humour, keep rockin’!
The lyrics are the most Canadian ever…So positive.
Jimmy deserves unironically a re-make, it’s a good song, IMO.
That lead singer is 100% influenced by Oasis, and the offspring influenced the song a lil too!
I don’t hear the oasis influence but I can clearly hear the blink influence.
When I heard this I thought that it could hit the charts when this type of music was big. I mean it still could. This song is 🔥.
I need this song on my playlist
When I read the video's title I was alredy laughing but at the end I didn't laugh at all! That is good material and I think that you should recorder it again with your actual skills. I'm sure it will be amazing. If you do it, JIMMYYYYYY will go straight to my playlist
Dude, Jimmy is a pretty good song! You should do a remake, an updated version with the technics and skills you have now would sound awesome
Oml this is what has been stuck in my head for this entire year
Listening to my old songs when I was young is actually really enjoyable.
I immediately thought of the Offspring too
Hot Topic was and still is everything. Much love Stevie T! Big fan.
I mean for someone like me who has been only playing for a year and a half, this is a big inspiration and motivation, so for what that's worth thank you so much Steve!!
This honestly sounds a lot like The Offspring in a good way, definitely a song that sounds like an homage to Skate Punk
Exactly.
Yeah I just posted that lmao...didn't see your comment, it sounds like their first 2 albums for sure...BEHEADED!!!! WATCH IT SPURT LIKE A GARDEN HOSE!!!
For sure, ignition or self titled albums
Need more videos like this Stevie. What a great effort for a bunch of kids just enjoying playing. Be proud man
This song may have been inspired by Saint Jimmy by green day because
1: Saint Jimmy was released in 2004 and he recorded this in 2004 when he was 17
2: Steve also says he likes green day especially in the 2000s
3: Jimmy and Saint Jimmy and the Saint Jimmy story arch have a lot in common.
4: This would be 2 years after Steve bought Warning by green day for 12 bucks
Yeah maybe, and Adams song. Especially the end with the positive ending.
Yeah I mean, C'm-
wait...
"Jimmy, they all do not hate you" or whatever
"Get up johnny boy, Get up johnny boy, Get up, cuz the world's been lyin' you on the ground, Get up johnny boy!"
Jimmy Boy twenty one pilots x stevie T??
That would be badass Green Day is what my band is trying to go off of
Sure but it's also partially "Summer of '69"........"I bought my first six string, working at the five and dine."
Just now seeing this. I love it. Reminds me of my youth. I want this cd!
Hey Jimmy T, that was an awesome song. Slightly sloppy guitar playing but honestly, not THAT much. From that recording, we could already feel the tremendous talent that flows through you.
Thanks for sharing this with us !
[EDIT] The first riff and the solo are great btw !
Dude if that was your FIRST song imagine the songs you could produce now. You definitely gonna write another song!
Please download this!! This is amazing for a first song, and probably would've hit number one in it's time.
This was actually dope man. I like seeing how you've improved. Plus all the nostalgia of listening to old songs like this. I love listening to my highschool bands songs. Just to remember how much fun it used to be
I have to say, that was pretty good! I'd love to see a re-recording... or even better, a band reunion! Nice one Stevie
I honestly want a tab for the intro riff! It sounds sick!!!
You should re-record this! It's actually quite cool.
Yes! I agree 😀
It is kinda cool. I guess I have to admit. OK FINE, if I get enough requests, I'll re-record this song!!! 😃
@@SteveTerreberry re-record it 😀
Totally agree.
@@SteveTerreberry Re-record it
7:05 why was this actually really impressive 🔥
Please 🙏 release this I love it so much. I need to listen to this every morning. It's great.
Not gonna lie this is something I would definitely listen to. Great job Stevie and Stevie's friends (and and older guy that worked at Walmart).
We want the full version NOW!!
Having a rough day today but this wiped off all the sadness away! Thanks Stevie!
I love the song! Don't be ashamed of it! I dont know how to play the guitar at that age. 😅
This song is really good. You should to a re-recording of this song.
Sounds like Iron Maiden at beginning…also look at Steve’s face when he’s reminiscing the lyrics: especially 4:24-4:30 the “never had a girlfriend/gonna die a virgin “ his face almost says. Wow it’s 14 years later and I still am the same …Lmao… him looking down after listening, that is a dead giveaway…amazing how our bodies have “tells”…..Steve’s cool,a little neurotic, but a good guy inside…
i love that riff so much
I'm so glad you shared this with us😊 I think now that you have, the song needs to be recreated so we can all hear the more advanced version of the song 🤘 kinda makes me think of the band Silverchair.
Yes, yes! Shredeem Jimmy! 🤘😁
Oh wow! I remember Silverchair!! If I recall correctly, they kinda had a 'raw' sound to begin with. Our demo was VERY raw. Perhaps an updated recreation with modern technology and skills may have to happen! 🤔
@@SteveTerreberry that'd be friggin awesome😁🤘
@@SteveTerreberry it'd be cool if you got everyone back together for the updated version.
I'd actually love a re-recording of this song, sounds awesome
Stevie, you have the knowledge, skill, and equipment to refine this song.
Bro I love this type of music genre, I NEED THAT DEMO DISC RIGHT NOW
I definitely encourage you to write and sing more! Your voice is also great and you KNOW how to sing! Your Halfordesque embodiment was awesome!
You should find the rest of the band and rerecord it. Those lyrics were actually killer. It's cool to see snap shots of your journey through music.
