Stevie, I've been playing for 40 years.... About a year ago, I was jamming with some friends and the subject of 'first song' came up. I thought about it for a minute, and without hesitation I was able to bang out the main riff for a song I wrote in 1991, literally 30 years ago. Funny thing, muscle memory.
Probably since it’s something you made, it’s easier for you to remember it.

That sounded surprisingly good, even lyrically it's not terrible, pretty simplistic but still pretty good overall. Very punky and really fun sounding
The lyrics are good but the execution just wasn't quite there.
@@cruisidefire3557 yeah, that is also true, I will say that vocally it put me in mind of Pennywise but not done as well
Knowing 16 year old Stevie was better than I am at 20 is only further proof of knowing that he in fact just is a guitar god

How prophetic this song and it's innocent lyrics ended up, almost exactly retelling the story of your amazing growth. I also vote that you re-record it, just as a showcase of how far you've come. Rock on, Steve!

The riff is actually sick. I want a 10 hour loop of it.

I can't see why Steve is embarrassed, I'd be proud if i were him. The riff is sick, the lyrics are something lots of teenagers (including me years ago) can relate to. The first song me and my pals wrote was far from being that catchy. Also, cranking out such a solo at 17 after 2 years of playing is pretty much astonishing.
The CD cover also rocks BTW!
yeah i mean, cmon, the first song i wrote [on my own but still] literally only had the muffled lyrics at the start "i cant find a way to get past these cars in the woods" and you guessed it, thats a metaphor for, roadblocks in life!! but seriously, it sucks.
This song may have been inspired by Saint Jimmy by green day because
1: Saint Jimmy was released in 2004 and he recorded this in 2004 when he was 17
2: Steve also says he likes green day especially in the 2000s
3: Jimmy and Saint Jimmy and the Saint Jimmy story arch have a lot in common.
4: This would be 2 years after Steve bought Warning by green day for 12 bucks
Yeah maybe, and Adams song. Especially the end with the positive ending.

Well that was a trip down memory lane. I remember those days oh so well. "Closed for the season" Not sure where you guys came up with that name but you had fun. I was so excited to hear you were doing a Hot Topic sponsership. I love that store and you have always bought your clothes there. Hope they sent you a pair of skinny jean. Oingo Boingo. Especially the song "Only a lad".
This ironically reminds me of "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World!! I have always loved that song cause it was an amazing anthem for those of us who never quite fit in. I think Jimmy was pretty good actually...it was written from the perspective you all had at that time. It's amazing to see where you are now though! You have a God given gift 🤗 If you had advice for yourself at that time what would it be? I know I would love to talk to my younger self! Love you Stevie and this was so cool of you to share!
I've always loved that song too Christina! Quite possibly the anthem for the 2000's. Maybe Jimmy was inspired by that song. Maybe that's why we called it "Jimmy", as in "Jimmy Eat World"!!!? 🤯 I'm thinking too hard.
If I could talk to younger Stevie, I'd say "Stay true to yourself". I'd give that advice to any young person actually. Haha
Second ;)
The band's name came from a crayon drawing made after an incident between Linton's younger brothers, Jim and Ed Linton, who fought frequently. Jim usually won, but Ed sought revenge by drawing a picture of Jim shoving the Earth into his mouth; the picture bore the caption "Jimmy eat world"
Definitely offspring inspired

I am soooo happy my band's demo from high school was on cassette tape and there were only 4 or 5 copies floating around. I can't imagine how horrendous we sounded back then. I had only been playing about a year when we stayed playing parties and local gigs. Fun times for sure though.
I honestly want a tab for the intro riff! It sounds sick!!!
Man, actually for a bunch of 17 years old and an older guy that worked on walmart the song is pure gold, the lyrics are really good and if you interpret them deeper they actually are very mature for some kids that age imo.
to be honest, the song had a great riff and nice solo, the lyrics were not that bad, the only thing that sucked was vocals. Steve should definitely re-record this epic song again with better vocals. It would be better than most modern punk rock.
And the production of the Drums too, as a drummer who has played for more than 4 years i think the sound of the drums were bad, and also sloppy, but hey, they were 16 17 years old (and also me) so i think its a very good song

@Бразилец You've taken what I said out of context. I was referring to any random person from Walmart if he was to re-record the song.

This song sounded pretty much early 2000's to me. While Stevie may think his guitar playing sloppy, the feeling is there, and it is punky as balls. Since I like pure punk which IS sloppy by default, I say this song definitely gets a pass from me, it's cool! :)
When I record a song, I always deliberately put a few mis-hits on the drums and a few bits missing the beat here and there. It actually makes it better than sounding like a metronome.
This song is actually a banger, not only do you gotta upload this song we need outta my life and chorus is the travel time

The fact that Stevie played punk with a warlock guitar, demonstrates he was mental from the beginning.

For a punk-ish song put together by a bunch of hugh-schoolers in early\mid 00's it actually sounds very decent. Nice guitar riffs and good lyrics without unnecessary screams, swearing and excessive edginess.
