How we feeling out there? How's your drive-time commute? I need a saga! What's the saga? It's Songs For The Deaf...You can't even hear it!
Rory McCrossan god i loved hearing this part.
We were all thinking it
I need a SAGA!
Rory over here saying what we’re thinking 🤟🤟🤟
@@PinetopJackson What's the SAGA?
Love Mikey's screaming
You could actually scream like that if you were in the studio with them. His mic has a lot of effects and distortion on it. Look at their live vids and you'll see he has two mics side by side.
You can kind of hear his voice over his mic though.
Yeah but I still prefer Nick’s vocals :/
Wish there was more of it though lol
@@natemarks4241 if you know wich kinda pedals are used on mikeys vocals your my hero
2:00 damn I love this pause so much
Also, I subconsciously expect No One Knows to start right after this
xdeadmeatx Silences are vital!
I feel like they should have just started the song like that.
This is legit.
@xdeadmeatx "The music is not in the notes, it's in the space between them"
Yea I theorize the keyboardist is clapping to keep time so when the break hits they rejoin on time
Joey “The Machine” Castillo
IRL Animal from the Muppets
The Sexy Mexi
An absolute drum gorilla! Saw him with The Bronx about a year ago. So fucking good to see him do it live
Wasn't he out of the band?
@@EdwinvanKoppen yep. This is from 2002. He still performs with different artists.
As much as I appreciate Jon Theodore's accurate playing of all the songs, Joey just brings another rawness and heaviness to the songs... What a powerful drummer!
Dave is the best thooo
Damn straight. Joey´s the best drummer they ever had. He plays like a flawed drum machine set to 11, which I mean as a compliment of the highest order.
more drive, less groove, more appropriate for the older material. jon is the oposite, more groove, less drive for current material is optimal hence the drummer change
Joey is perfect for what he is playing now, trash talk, the bronx and bloodclot
@@kruzti Yeah, Josh seems to agree with you on that. I just think that Josh´s songs and Joeys drumming were a perfect match.
Theodore is a fantastic drummer, but in my opinion he's a little too streamlined for QOTSA. I believe Joey would have killed on the newer songs as well.
The irony of this band is that when Dean is reduced to playing tambourine, you know there is too much talent around😂
Best guitar tone ever on this record...straight midrange babayyyy
His guitar tone in Kyuss is better...at least for me. Still badass
word.
Kylo Ren knows How to rock a bass
Johannes Adalie 🔊🍻🔊
Professor Snape killing it on guitar too
Man why don't they ever let Mikey on main vocals?
Agreed. Josh on vocals is 'soft to the core' as far as this song is concerned.
I totally agree!
I can't speak for Mike, but some people can only do harsh vocals in a much more limited setting. Maybe he wouldn't be able to lay down the whole verse (let alone an entire song) without fucking up his throat.
Same as Jesse says, I believe Mikey can’t handle singing for that long. Its a very heavy and hard way to sing.
@@coylesy This song isn't nearly as good without Nick Oliveri singing it, but that other dude could totally nail it.
Michael "YEAAUGH" Shuman : 1:35
I love that 😂🤘
Mikey is a killer screamer. Why don't they just have him handle the entire lead vocals? He fits the song way better than Josh does
Pride probably
I was going to write the same comment, it's so obvious...
Yeaj, this version its so weak compared to the og energy, mostly fue to the vocals
Disagree
@@SweatyWalrus u r wrong
Just let Mikey go for it, he clearly has tiger blood coursing through is veins.
Not everyone can scream like that through an entire song but yeah honestly I’d love to hear him try it
Yup...if Nick isn't singing it...let Mikey! Josh sings too pretty for this song.
QOTSA was the soundtrack to my teenage years. This is pure nostalgia to my earballs.
Am I the only one going bananas about Joey playing here? I mean, nothing wrong with Theodore, but Joey, ohhhhhh Jooooey.
I agree 100%
Nope. You shouldn’t be. Joey’s playing has a bite that all the other QOTSA drummers, including Grohl, is lacking.
Joey's just maintaining the required beat! I'm a drummer and yaxley it looked kind of not into it and worn out in that video if you ask me. Yeah he's doing his part I'm not arguing. I mean it's not a jazz song. Watch some of those drummers Man start with Buddy Rich if you want to check out cool drummers Ginger Baker of course even if it's not your style you'll appreciate the amazing ability of those players and the other players that inspired them and so forth
@@mattvesely2194 Thanks! I think I just always liked how QotSA felt with Joey on the beat! I will listen to your recommendations though.
@@mattvesely2194 JO JO Mayer described 'technique' as the ability to play what you intend and get it right every time. For this reason guys like Charlie Watts and Joey have perfect technique. I know what you are saying, but no one here is calling Joey the greatest player in history. They are saying he fit the style of this band perfectly. Let's not forget, he has been in the business decades. He knows exactly what he is doing and that is more than can be said for legions of practice room players who will never earn a dime. I'm not having a go at you, perish the thought, I am just saying respect where it's due.
the backing vocals are just fucking amazing and hit that spot
how can you make that hellish voice D:
@@joseimarambio he uses a lot of effects, like distortion, but learn to scream properly though as if you don’t you’ll hurt your voice badly
@@joseimarambio his is using the fry screaming technique I believe which is one of the easier ones to use but you don't get the clarity of other screams.
They should just let Mikey sing the whole song
Nice , i love you from the basement
We love you too
@@FromTheBasementOfficial I love you more
I really like Joey's playing in these Basement videos because he's on point with tempo. Most of the time it seems like he rushes the songs live, which is fine because they're still good. But these Basement tapes are a whole nother level.
I loved that he sometimes rushed, it was like an angry best chasing them with the beat. It made it much more raw.
pure energy
@@dillonchamberlain Absolutely.
Click track
@@dildonicplague Absolutely, I think that's why he's playing so well in this.
This band is consistently tight and locked in all the time even through the years with different line ups! Amazing
I hope this means that we are building up the anticipation for the release of the full show!
That was the last song of the session. They only played 5 songs
@@joellomusic Probably some good fella out there will put it together in a whole edit. Maybe I will?
Or a new album???? Probably too much to ask for…
Let Mikey sing and song is as good as when Nick was performing it. This song needs that screaming.
He probably can't do it consistently, that's why they rather got him on backing vocals instead of risking fucking up his voice.
@@Filip6754 Good point.
That screaming is lit
Chvocht - you know it’s a distortion filter added to the mic right he can yell clean without any distortion but it’ll sound like a scream cuz of the distortion effect added
@@dmccarroll5938 oh, is it? Why doesn't Homme use it, then?
This song and album are the crunchiest thing to come out of that decade. Rock N Roll
I don't know about that. Maybe in mainstream rock but I'm sure there was a crunchier/crustier band. Like Mastodon for instance
@@dalenixon4887 yep
A full re-upload of all these amazing performances is just what 2020 needs.
pandemic silver-linings
For the love of god, please let Mikey sings the whole song!
I love both versions of this song. The screamy dude and josh. Completely different
Nick Oliveri if I remember correctly.
I'm sorry but this band is some type of special. You can't just change damn near everyone on a band and STILL be successful.
Josh Homme is a special class of genius.
King Crimson
Troy
I was going to reply the same. Troy has been a constant as well as Josh. I think they are both geniuses. :shrugs:
Why you sorry?
It's because Josh treats his bands like dictatorships.
Mikey: screaming his lungs out
Dean: shaking that shakey thing
let's go boys
This was the entrance music for my very first amateur MMA fight (and several kickboxing fights). I wil always love the song but I start to sweat whenever I hear it now. 😬
Did you win
@@andwhale06 Nope. I lost it pretty badly actually! Ref stoppage. But I learned some lessons from it and went on a tear. Wound up quitting those competitions with a 10-1 record.
@@shaboythetomNice one king, proud of you
cool
Why mikey doesn’t sing this song I’ll never know
I'd imagine it's hard on his voice so he can't do it at every show
his mic has a lot of effects on it, would sound very crappy if he sung the whole song
It's actually easy once you get it down. Some proper vocal training it's really fun.
No one knows.
@@samclemmons5373 beat me to it : /
Dean rocking the shit out of that Tambourine 🤘🏻
Joey Castillo is my favorite QOTSA drummer ever, he is an animal 🔥
The bassists vocals bring me joy

Thanks a lot for uploading the whole session. This is one of QOTSA's best sets, thank you all again for recording it back in the day!
They were in such great shape here. What a performance.
Great singer. Great all round.
Joey feels right, man. I've loved all their drummers, but he just feels right.
Those guitar tones!

Such a good riff.
