A year ago, my garage spot was taken up by an AP2 S2000 - now it's taken by a 2020 X5 40i lol These cars are seriously great, especially now that the pre-facelift G05 X5s have depreciated to ~50-60% of their original MSRP. Lots of lease deal returns means a healthy amount of inventory coming back in and loads of sweet deals to be had. Some observations after owning my X5 for 10 months: • Feels like traveling business/first class everywhere you go • 27-28 MPG on the highway if you don't speed like crazy. Pair that with a 22 gallon gas tank -> easy to go 500+ miles between fillups • Launching from a stop the B58 is AGGRESSIVE and will throw you back in your seat. Less insane while already moving at highway speeds, but there's the M50i if you want that. I'll take the efficiency gains and the more than adequate power • BMW really came out swinging with the first few model years of G05. 2019 and 2020 40i "base" models can be had with options like acoustic glass, Bowers & Wilkins, rear steering, soft close doors and even night vision. Many of these options either disappeared completely or became reserved only for the M50i / X5M for 2021 and up; 2022 and 2023 models suffered Covid chip shortages and took away foglights, rear trunk backseat fold down levers and even the infotainment touchscreen in some cases. If you can get an earlier model year for CPO, that's the sweet spot • Driving automation features like adaptive cruise and traffic jam assist are really really good. Under 40 MPH you can fully take your hands off the wheel and the car will drive through stop and go traffic for you. It's so much more relaxing than any other car I've owned • A few minor quibbles: Comfort mode is a bit roly poly in hard corners, wireless Carplay is awkward when switching between drivers, backseat legroom is almost the same as an X3, Harmon Kardon is a so-so sound system for this segment Overall I've been super happy with my X5 in its role as a long haul road tripper and people mover. I got an e-Golf for short city trips and they fit my current life use case perfectly. I had my S2000 as a Covid impulse buy, had my fun with it and was barely driving it once a month by the time I decided to move on. Plus, if I ever decide to get a more dedicated track car, I can just tow it there with the X5 now :)
What's the towing capacity? I heard from forums that these cars really can't tow a track car with a trailer because its too much strain on the transmission
When you factor in the aftermarket support for the B58 and see how easy it is to get these engines to 600whp, the m50 is irrelevant. Unless you really need to have v8 noises, it isn't worth the poor reliability, fuel consumption and lack of mods.
I rented a 2023 X5 40i X-Drive in Hawaii last year and was amazed at how nice it was to drive. That B58 was probably the sweetest engine I have experienced in any car.
I don't know if it's just me. But I think BMW should offer like an off-road package. With real off-road hardware like two speed transfer case, diff locks, and all terrain tires. It already has the towing capacity and height adjustable suspension. And unlike G-Wagons and Range Rovers, people would actually use the off-road capabilities because it would be an optional package that was specified by the person who bought it. That, I think, would have made the X5 so much cooler than a typical crossover.
It's the same B58. The only differences between those are the tunes. Later models got the 6 port exhaust manifolds. The Supra launched with 330hp. The 380hp is the 6 port exhaust manifold one. The F30 340i and F32 m240i from 2017 before the Supra and G series B58 cars came out had the 330hp B58. Paired with a 6 speed stick shift no less
@@Unicornpirate to my knowledge there are other differences with the injection pressure, chain drive, in addition to increased boost. It’s a technical revision but sure still a b58. I’m not an expert though.
We ordered a 2018 m4 competition Individual with the full Opal white merino extended leather. We regret trading that thing in, the all white interior was one of a kind.
Do you get the feeling that BMW (and others) are more focused on making their SUV’s more satisfying than their sedans? It seems people get more enjoyment even with M versions (prob combination of practicality and driving satisfaction).

It’s kinda silly how good of an everyday family hauler this thing is.
If it was a 5 series wagon.. it'd be perfect

If you need to go off road and want BMW hardware get the Ineos Grenadier?
@@avery4528 Oh yes, the Grenadier is so cool. It's probably the one that I'd have.
My wife dailies an m40i x3 - things great
Yea, I'd rather opt for that than the bigger x5.. I don't need/want the extra space/weight..
These are amazing machines for cheap now.

Love the X5 but don’t think you can get rear steer on an X5 40i in the US.
It used to be an option for the 2019 model when I first bought it.
Great family hauler. Still not as good as a wagon though.
Good to note that this is not the b58 found in the Supra or m340i, x3m40i etc. That b58 makes 382ish hp.

@@Unicornpirate my x3 m40 2018 has 355hp. Which motor is that?
They're all the B58 engine. That is literally the engine code!

Find me one with Merino leather, Executive package, M package and most importantly Driver Assist Professional for 40-45k. 🧢 🧢 🧢

BMW just makes all there cars drive good. The design can be debatable but every bmw i tried has all been great. Suv, sedan , M and non m cars
Wow great timing on the video. I am on the fence of trading my M2 Comp for an X5 50e. Got another kid coming, need something bigger to fit car seats 😅
the 45/50e version of these are so cool- you get the b58 and its a phev too
I would get one but these things depreciate like crazy sadly
ROAD NAME????
Its actually under 5000lbs just fyi
