    I'm with Yuri on this. The X5 is a gigantic toy, and I love it. In today's age, even the most simplest infotainment system requires a day or two of just sitting in the car playing around with buttons to learn stuff. I do worry about all of the old people who actually can afford a X5 who would definitely struggle with this.

      @@luiscastro5456 Lol wrong way to look at things. We'll get old too sure, but we grew up with more technological knowledge. Using infotainment in an X5 can be learned in 30 seconds by an average teenager. Sure we don't know how to build a table with our hands, but we can always use an app and pay some 5 dollars to do it for us ;)
      Also, most people buying an X5 now are 30-40 years old. 50-60 year olds are buying Ford Escapes lol.

    I'm with Jakub on this one. Feels like the technology really isn't there yet to have this level of integration. That pause between saying your request and the car responding would drive me crazy. @@TheStraightPipes The Tech in cars (especially when doing something that can be as dangerous as driving) need to be super intuitive.
      My iPhone is easily controlled by my 2-year-old without me showing him how to do anything. That is intuitive. Car tech needs to be on this level. You don't want to be figuring out how to turn off your seat heater while your focus should be on the road.
      Intuitive, otherwise get it out of the f***'n car.

      It’s really not that bad as he made it seem. Issue is people don’t read the manual. Taking a week or 2 to learn the the tech in a vehicle you will have for years is nothing. System is actually very intuitive and most of the features are useful.

    • @RChyshkevych

      Roman Chyshkevych a
      All standard vehicle operations are the same. At the end of the day it all depends on what a person wants to learn, regardless of age. In 10 years this will all look low tech. Technology always moves forward, get use to it.

    • @MathsYknow
      @MathsYknow 5 років тому +1

      @@RATTMAN I haven't taken a week or two to learn the tech in my Mazda6 company car which I'll have for years. All I did was figure out how to turn the most annoying "helpful" features off, but I admit I'm an anomaly because I only own a classic car and tech isn't my thing. However, I bet that a lot of BMW buyers are richer / older / busier than the average person, and accordingly they buy this SUV for the image and sell it in two years without getting to grips with half the tech. :p

    • @RATTMAN

    Compliment Sandwich:
    I love the look and color of the brown leather seats.
    This looks like it has a lot of superfluous technology. I get the point of pushing functions to the screens so they're upgradable; but if your first version is a UX nightmare, you've failed. As a software engineer, I always say that people will forgive you for being late if you get it right, but they'll never give you credit for being on time (or early) if you get it wrong. It reminds me of when Samsung would seemingly throw every feature they could think of into their phones to find out which ones people liked.
    The look of the exhaust really bothers me. Is it impossible to make exhaust tips that integrate into the bumper and are actually connected to the exhaust?
    The exhaust/engine noise sounds good.

    • @joeljeffrey9139
      @joeljeffrey9139 5 років тому

      What you explained is my biggest problem with BMW's introduction of new tech. It's like they don't even quality check it before releasing it and the consumer is forced to figure out how it works. It gets better over time, but I'm definitely on board with releasing a more complete package than an introduction.

    I know I wouldn't like the voice commands at all. I rarely use Siri or voice to text on my phone, it doesn't always work right or it's slow to react so its not worth the frustration to use. I think some of the tech is great though, like the reversing and parking features (awesome use of the 360 cam) and the self-driving aids.

    Great review guys, as always. Happy to see that your approved of the looks. I agree. It's not too outlandish compared to the new 7 series - I think the new X3 grille is too big as well for it's body size.
    As a driver of a 2016 3 series, I felt a little jealous when this new iDrive was revealed but yeah it does feel a little more cumbersome. But I'm always willing to learn new things, especially when it comes to technology.
    Not a fan of the digital gauges though.

    Just use the standard voice command from the steering wheel (is that still available on iDrive 7?). On iDrive 6 you can just push the voice button on the wheel and say the name of any function in iDrive and it will do it. "Sport Displays", "Equalizer", "Tire Pressure", etc. all work fine. No need to navigate the menus or take your eyes off the road.

    I’ve worked on the V8s and the six’s (as well as other Bovarian Motor Work’s engines) I prefer the six’s all around. The 2.0 4 cylinder has also been proved as a reliable engine. The v8 has shown some serious issues around the 120k mile mark. Not to mention labor rates are higher for the v8s as it is a lot tighter in the engine bay. For best maintenance prices and reliability I recommended the 3.0L with rear wheel drive. A pleasure to work on and relatively cheap to maintain. Mercedes plastic used in the engine bay is also surprisingly cheap. Very brittle after a few years. Compared to BMW anyway.

      ft/lbs*1.36=Nm
      100kW = 134HP

      They're Canadian; they're using metric. The only metrics that they don't use metric for are engine power and torque but horsepower and pounds/foot have been the standard units of measurement for those for decades.
