I have done a 200 ML320 ecu swap. Same location for EEPROM. I used Chip Quik to remove chips safely. I cleaned the board with wick. Its very easy that way.

Thank you for revealing this simple fix! It worked just like your described using an identically versioned ECU. I used a W211 as the donor for a W209 failed ECU. Kudos for sharing the tip!
This is practices are not permitted heating with amateur Hot Air. In this way You can incinerated processor Motorola HC11. They can also incinerate peripherals items and PCBs. Damage can occur after a period of time. Items can fall off. Creating danger on the road.
Latent damage of chips or the PWB is always possible when using either a solder iron or hot air. Of course care must be taken and you have to know what you're doing. "Professional" hot air stations can be just as damaging with the heat. Any tool in any idiot's hands is likely to be dangerous. I'm happy to say that I'm a professional.
Very helpful. I'm impressed. Question: I have an old 1996 c220 with 2.2 l engine (w202 chassis). Do you know if the immobilizer chip is on the front of the board or the back of the board? I only see two 8 pin dip ic s on the pcb. Neither one is the number on your more modern example. It probably predates the one in the vid. I'm guessing that it is one of these two chips. The rest are much larger.
Just did it to a spare ECU with same HW but DIFFERENT p/n (from a w211 donor car) and car (which is w219 model) does not start, besides throwing ABS/ESP error. I'm now wondering if some further data needing to be copied are stored somewhere else....

On my e55 i used to get diffent missfire codes po300 , 305to 308 and then (JUST) removed put back the ecu gave me whole diffrent codes and engine working rly bad. I got ripped off by a used car dealer (Ruslan Brovarsky, Austin TX) on a 2003 C230K Apparently?? The key, door-lock, immobilizer, the ignition tumbler/switch along with the ECM Was all swapped from another car. I Don’t have the original ECM. From what I understand the reason nothing works on the car even though it starts and runs? It’s because I don’t have the original build file in the ECM to match the car. When I scanned the present ECM the Vin number is not even where it is supposed to be, it’s just blank. Any ideas what I can do?. My only recourse is to go to the dealer and buy a $2000 OEM ECM along with their labour and the pre-diagnostic review.
Yes if done correctly must need to make sure the chip is installed correctly and taking it off not to break the pins as we had ppl try doing it themself and then shiping it out to us to fix it If you try and break pins won’t be possible to recover info

I'm trying to do an ecu swap with a van with the same engine. i took the key the console and the key decoder behind the console plus ecu from a van with the same engine. Now i'm getting the start error message. Is there an eprom swap or a reprogram i need to do? I thought taking all of the above accessories across from the donor would be enough. Last thing is i have a tachograph on my vehicle which is why i am trying to swap ecu's i wish to remove the tacho. I'm stuck in limp mode after previously trying to remove the tacho. i guess as soon as you cut the permanent positive of the tachograph unit it looses it's handshake with the ecu. I'm now stuck in limp mode and the donor ecu doesn't work. Could you explain to me why you would need to swap the eprom if you have all of the above electronics from the donor vehicle? What is there left that wants to recognise the original eprom? or do you only do this when you don't have the new console and key transponder (IMMO / SKREEM) box The only other difference i can see is that my van has a KITAS speed sensor by the output shaft of the transmission soi need to go back to donor van and see if it has some sort of speed sensor and how it plugs into the ecu etc. the kitas sensor is for the tacho and first plugs into the back of the unit, then the tacho device sends can bus and 2 other signals out to the ecu / cluster. I'm pretty stuck here.
I was able to figure the eprom chip is 95080 on e550 ecu and switched the eprom chips between my original and used ecu i bought. the ECU i bought now has VIN of my original car. (OBD reader read the VIN). But I still can't start the car!

I am from Chile, Temuco region, in the south of Chile, and I have a Mercedes W203 C240 2.6 V6, year 2005. in this region it rains a lot and one day the car did not start anymore I started to check and I realized that the ecu does not work because I scanned it with a launch 431x and it does not recognize the ecu I took it out and sent it to check something that had a little of humidity the man who repaired it for me said that it is good now but it does the same thing as before I put in the key it recognizes the key the car turns 1 lap the usual lights turn on the 2nd lap it would be hard to hear the pump not being heard and the 3rd ignition turn does not do anything nor does the engine turn but the electro fan of the engine is heard at maximum. What can I do or what ecu can help me since I have the car thrown away
Will this fix the problem for a Cl500 ? One day I came out to start it up and nothing worked...the unlock or lock button didn’t work and the ignition wouldn’t budge so I order a new key fob from Benz and it still didn’t work the only thing that comes on are the dash to show the mileage and the temperature...any advice ? I did and I am able to start and drive the car for about a block before it start missing real bad where I cannot go anywhere until I turn the car off and turn it back on and able to drive for another block before it mess up again
I heard that if its a no obd coms ecu and you do direct swap with one of the same but not tampered with you should find (although your car still will not start) but you now have ecu coms.....then it is confirmed that your ecu is stuffed.

2003 Mercedes e320, I swapped eeproms. Car will crank start then die twice and then won’t crank at all. Thoughts ?

In your other video, you used the CARPROG to read and write the eeprom. Could you have used the same tool here to avoid removing the chip?

sometimes it still requires to remove it to read and write Becouse on board it don’t want to read the chip

The message I just sent it was on a 1993 500SEL Mercedes it was on the ECM unit that was bad can you repair

Will this work in a W210 E55 ECU? I have 2 of them and want to swap the ECU to see if there is an issue with one ECU.
