- Here is my Walk-through & Review of the Ambient Weather WS-1000 WiFi Observer Solar Powered Wireless Personal Weather Station. Hope you enjoy this video! Update: After a successful 5 years and 5 months run, the console stopped working and several months prior to that the outdoor humidity readings and wind speed gauge started to show inaccurate data. I now replace this station with WS-2000 and I have a review of it at: • Ambient WS-2000 Smart ... .

Update: After a successful 5 years and 5 months run, the console stopped working (beeping on boot up with black screen) and several months prior to that the outdoor humidity readings and wind speed gauge started to show inaccurate data. I now replace this station with WS-2000 and I have a review of it at: ua-cam.com/video/sScKj8xwQjM/v-deo.html .
Thank you for the video; it sold us on the WS-1000! Our station has been a happy camper for the past 4-5 months we've owned it, aside from a couple of times where the console dropped one of the signals and we had to restart it. It's a great device!
A big thank you! I just bought this station and have not received it yet but did enjoy your walkthrough. Very nicely done.
Looks like a great unit. With its complexity, as a (former) pilot, I was surprised it did not show "calculated cloud base". This is good indicator for near future weather, as my outdated station does, but desperately need an update, getting tired of shovelling coal into it, lol.
By the looks of it, it appears that this setup would be ok for southern hemisphere setups as securing the wind vane to its shaft, the unit could be oriented to face North, as required for us guys down here for max efficiency of the solar cell.
Apart from the cloud base, this looks like quite a good setup and well worth the money.
Thanks for your time, and posting this vid mate. :)
Pilot McBride I bought a weather station from eBay last year, and until now, the unit still works great. I provides accurate, real-time weather data of indoor and outdoor temperature, and humidity in our area. And the best part is it just cost me US $21.60 only. You guys check it. I swear the quality is very reliable.

The "unpacking" segment looked like my children on Christmas morning!
It did feel like Christmas! :) Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video! I'm in the process of purchasing one of these, but wanted to get more info on its functionality, etc. You have solidified my future purchase of this product! Great job. You sounded like a pro with your review. :-)
Thanks for that great instruction video.
I just purchased this unit since my old Oregon Scientific unit is serial connection to the PC and new PC's don't have a serial connection anymore.
I purchased a serial to USB adapter but the software kept losing connection to the console so it was time to upgrade.
I found your video after I already placed the order and was pleased to see it does what I wanted it to do. Can't wait to set it up tomorrow when it arrives.
The only con I have with this station is that it ONLY can upload to Weather Underground. I would have loved to see it also update Weatherbug Backyard Community and PWS but WU is what I use most so it'll suffice. I just find the radar on the Weatherbug app much better than the one on the WU app.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
Triple-T Entertainment Thank you for watching and for your comment! Hope the setup and deployment goes smooth. I am fine with WU only but other sites would be nice too. Since this was their first WiFi release, I bet next/future version may expand on sites that you can broadcast data too.
ColoradoRMN Thanks for your reply. I just set the station up and it is working quite nicely.
The only thing that is not working is the almost immediate update on Weather Underground. It takes a few minutes before I see another update.
I have Rapid Fire turned to on the Weather Underground settings.
As you know they have changed the site to a newer design than the one shown in your video. Does that have to with it?
ColoradoRMN Never mind, it just started working. I guess it took a little while before it started the immediate updates.
Awesome! Glad WU is all working!
Thanks for the review. Don't be hard o yourself, an excellent first effort!
+Maurice Moore Thank you, Maurice!
You are a professional!! Great presentation! I'm sold!
Not painful. Pretty good video man. 👍 Just got my 1st cheap weather station....bought a LaCrosse. Wanna get one like yours eventually. Anyways thanks for the content.
Thanks for taking the time to create this great info!
I Have it..bought it in the Netherlands..its great!!!
this one will suit me fine. All my PC's run 24/7. Accuracy, Durability and affordability or more of an issue for me. Thank you for your review :)
Brilliant review! Thanks so much! I am replacing my old Oregon Scientific station with the Linux box and was wondering if there were something simpler out there. Ordered it today and can't wait to do the swap out. Thanks!
Nice view of your patio stones. Couldn't see much else.
Pilbo, this is a friendly reminder that your eye appointment and exam should be scheduled soon. Please come back and let me know if your new prescription has any improvement when watching this 20 minute video. Happy New Year!
Nice table.
This station does not have fan aspirated radiation shield. This means it is not accurate reading temperature.
I'm either getting this or Davis Vantage Vue. I'm torn because both are very good, I've heard Davis is a little better but I think that's subjective. I do have a sense of "customer loyalty" I guess with Ambient Weather since I own their mini anemometer and love them! And Davis' weather system has a really outdated display UI so I think I'm leaning more towards Ambient Weather... still undecided though - as usual! :/
I really enjoyed your video and it answered a lot of my questions. However, I'm curious how the rainfall is handled. I see that the rainfall is measured. But could you share as to what becomes of the water after a rain event? Also, how about snow? Does that have to be handled (melted) the old fashioned way to be measured? Thanks.
Carol Perrin Thank you. The unit self releases / empties the measured water. Every ~0.01 " of rain I hear "click" sound that empties the water and adds to the measurment. I am guessing when there is enough weight to support ~ 0.01" of rain, the unit takes that measure and tips/empties the collected water. For snow, any snow on top would be measured when it melts, however that would not be an accurate way to measure moisture in the sow as 1' of snow on the ground will still have only a few inches of snow on top of the station.
Thanks for the video review. I am in the process of setting up my station. Same model, but re-branded as "Holman" in Australia. Does your console lose its settings when power is disconnected to that unit.? I.E., do you need to re- enter all of your customised settings when power is restored ?
I'm toying with the idea of discarding the AC/DC adapter. I just need to purchase another cable and then .... I will look at us8ing a USB power bank. This device is normally used to charge mobile phones when nothing else is available.
You recharge power bank via the USB outlet on a PC or connect it to a phone charger. You would then keep it with you and use it to power your mobile if its battery goes flat. I'm planning to have the power bank permanently on charge via a wall socket and USB phone charger. At the same time, i connect the output of the power bank to the display console. If the mains drops, the power bank should power the display for about 4 hours (depending on the maH capacity of the model of power bank).
I've tested this with a mobile phone and it works OK. I.E the phone will charge when connected "to the mains" via the power bank and it continues to charge when the mains is dropped. (My power bank has a 2200maH capacity. BEWARE - some power banks require manual intervention to start recharging themselves in the case of a power failure. This means that if you're away from home for say, a week and the power drops for 3 hours on day 2 and the again on day 4, the you may not have enough charge in your power bank to keep the display powered up through the second outage. And, many outages coincide with weather related events and that is when you really want to record your data.
I haven't connected the microSD card into the unit, yet. But, I'd be be bittterly disappointed if the card isn't updated "realtime". So I should still have my data as long as the outage doesn't go on for several hours. If you expect that outage, and you are really keen that you are looking at big $$ for a fully functional UPS.
Hi. Thanks for your walk through and review. I bought this unit the other day. Really nice and enjoying it very much. I only have the one issue. I've noticed that the Wind Chill readout never differs from the outside temperature reading. Maybe I haven't had it long enough, but I notice our weather bureau gives a diffferent reading 'feels like' for my area than what the console is showing. Is there a setting I need to change to achieve the wind chill reading? Many thanks
Matt Watson I am not sure. One thing I'd check is to see if you are running the latest firmware? See ambientweather.wikispaces.com/ws1000-wifi for history/latest firmware. If this is still an issue after the update, give their support number a call to see if they have any ideas.
Matt Watson Hello. My weather station is a week old.
I have the same problem, even after updating to the latest firmware.
I would like to know if you have found a solution to the problem.
great review, thanks for uplaoding this information! very helpful!
Thank you! I appreciate the positive feedback.
Great walk through of the WS-1000 WiFi station. Very informative. Thanks!
Are you going to get this
Zak Taccardi It's presently out of stock. :(
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
What is it?
A WiFi enabled weather station that does not require a PC to transmit data
Excellent Video. I'm a weather newbe near Westcliffe, CO. Very interested in setting up a home station and linking to Underground as well. Considering the Ambient WS 1001 wireless. Do you know anything about that model? I live in a yurt which has bubble-wrap foil sandwich as insulation. The Array would be less than 50 feet away. Do you think the foil would negate the transmission?
+King Dexter Sorry as I have missed your comment until today. Hope you have and are enjoying your weather station by now. The WS 1001 seems to be a slightly improved version of the WS-1000; looks like they added a UV sensor as mine has the solar Rad but not the UV sensor. From the manufacturers website they also list WW-1001 WiFi "adds sunrise, sunset and moon phase to the display, including longitude and latitude." I think the 50 feet distance would be fine.
This is a good starter weather station, given the price. It does have some weaknesses, however. Mainly, the update time.
Every 16 seconds seems very good. What would be the need to have it more often ?
Because wind gusts may be missed...
Are the missed? It is not ignoring the wind gusts, it is just transmitting them every 16 seconds: Wind X, Gusts Y.
That is the manufacturer's claim, however there is some testing which contradicts that. Also, in this price range it would be impossible to imbed a microprocessor in the unit that was capable of such measurement.
The "old" Heathkit ID 5001 system used analog sensors, the outputs of which were converted to digital within the computer/console. As a result, the display was, for all intents and purposes, in "real time". Producing a weather station which displays the results of "current" (analog) conditions shouldn't be THAT hard, but "digital" is the newest buzzword for "better". FFT and other, similar mathematical manipulations should not be necessary to tell how fast a shaft is spinning or which way a vane is pointing.
Sometimes, the "latest and greatest" involves some compromises.
very well done
just ordered the ws 1000 and a web cam to go with it once its out of the box set up and running I will give a review
had a pro weather station for 3 years before base station failed last spring
was waitin on this to be released
live in Ontario north shore of lake Ontario gonna see if it holds up to the punishment
What kind of a Web Cam did you get? Do you need to keep your computer on for it? I am thinking of getting one to post to my PWS Weather Page.

Hello.
Nice review, I have had mine for 5 months and the outdoor sensor has stopped transmitting for the second time after heavy rain. The AC only is a problem, battery backup would be nice for those in rural area's that get frequent power outs.
Cheers.
I never had issues with the outdoor transmitter, since yours is still under warranty I'd contact Ambient to see if they have any tips/info on this. I did plug in my Console into a UPS battery unit that is also providing battery power to my modem & WiFi router in an event of a power outage (thankfully it is not too common of an issue in my area).
i have the same problem with outdoor sensor after heavy rain! did you find the solution?
very nice video; today I going to order one.
Colorado, this quickly became and has remained the benchmark review of this weather system, so wondering... will you be reviewing the newly updated WS-2000 at some point?
thanks
Thanks for watching! I am glad my review helped so many people. Current station still works great. If it dies I can check out WS-2000 (and its related models). They look pretty cool.
@@ColoradoRMN they should be sending one to you for review on the house given this review is directly responsible for so many sales. i cant believe they havent done that already
Hello; Very good video. Thank you. I have a remote location without power and so I was attracted by the "solar power" but I am wondering if the console runs off of the solar too or, would I still need a battery bank with inverter? I'm glad you mentioned the SD card as I was hoping it had one or had bluetooth capability. Seems it is a sturdy station and upload to underground is not my concern, recording site data is.
+Kurtis M The outdoor unit is the only one that is solar powered. The console need to be plugged in to get power from the grid (unless you had your own solar bank for that) and needs to be communicating to the WiFi (which also needs power and internet connection).
Excellent review. Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching!
Hi thanks for the video. I'm over here at Lowell & 38th st area. My Wx station is getting delivered today. Noticed you did this video about 4 years ago, was just wondering how your wx station is holding up. Thanks!
Still doing great! I did replace a screw on it last year as after cleaning it, after all these years, the plastic stripped a bit using the old screw. Other than that, it works well. The white plastic is more yellow now but the indoor and the outdoor unit still work and I watch it everyday and it reports to WU.
Thanks for your reply! I have mine setup & running now. Very pleased with it so far, very dry and windy today and It's keeping up very well.
Great Job. Very Professional. Very useful.
+Bud Swanson Thank you for the positive feedback!
awsome thanks. great video
Thanks for watching.
Hi, I'm writing from Italy where this station is not well known.
I have some questions:
It 'the Italian language option?
The temperature sensor must necessarily be inserted in the slot or it can be installed separately in a sunscreen passive Davis?
After how many seconds the data updated?
It has good reception Wi-fi? (I should install it on the roof)
The sensors are robust and precise?
Did you have any faults?
you can transmit data only on Wunderground or you can even create a personal website?
you can download the data to the PC?
Thanks!
According to the manual, it does (English, Chinese,. Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish). The outdoor sensor is attached to the weather station and as far as I know cannot be separated. The indoor sensor is separate (wireless) from the console and can be anywhere in the house. The data is updated every 16 seconds. Hope this helps.
Gracias..Buen vídeo.... Pero te quedo mal ubicada la estación... Al estar en la parte de abajo del techo, la parte alta del techo te oculta la velocidad del viento y la humedad... Te recomiendo, instalarla, en la parte mas alta del techo.....
How is the outdoor sensor holding up? Has the plastic deteriorated at all, or the covering of the solar cell?
Thanks for the review, I am looking to purchase a new station to replace my aging Oregon Scientific unit.
Still doing well! Did not have any need to take it down or to do any maintenance on it yet. I did buy spare batteries to replace the exciting ones when they fail. The plastic's white color is more yellow now, obviously due to being in the sun, but it is still working fine. I probably should go and inspect/clean the Solar cell before winter time comes.
what type of batteries did you buy?the factory sent me 1.5V recharchable alkanine and i can't find them..
I just ordered this. And I have to say your video is what sold Me, one question have you had the wind vane freeze up yet?
Hi Paul. Glad you found the video helpful! I did not have it freeze up, yet, but will keep an eye on it in the next snow/cold windy day. On none freezing days, I can say it works well as we had 37 MPH winds yesterday.
Just curious, I have had others get snow covered, as I live in lake effect snow country.
I can see where that may be an issue, as the unit has more surface area. I will keep an eye on it and see if it becomes an issue when we get more snow.
Use lock de-icer on the bearings if it freezes up.
Freezing up isn't really my concern, snow gumming up the anemometer is, w/ the flat surface, however this wouldn't be the first time, as I have had others do it as well including a Davis Weather Monitor II. on a side note I have had this station just over a week and I love it.
Hi Was thinking of purchasing the equivalent model from Maplins in the UK and was wondering if you have had any problems with the unit as yours is just over a year old. Thanks

Thank you for this review. How is it running now? I am just "about" ready to buy one. Thanks.
Still running well, on original batteries.
I found 1 u bolt worked fine. I notice the wind chill and indoor temp never changes, so what's the point of a wind chill if it's not really working?
great review.
I have one question... Does the display have a lot of light bleed at the edges? seems to in certain light but it might be camera effect, im not sure?
Thank you. There is no light bleed from the edges; maybe just a bit during boot-up process. Once it is boot up, it is a great looking display. On camera, it looked a bit different (and not as sharp) due to the refresh rate of the display.
ColoradoRMN thanks for the reply, greatly appreciated mate!
Hello, think to get this device for my home, one question for you, in Internet there are pictures showing the display of this, and on display there is pic of weather forecasting (sun, clouds, rain... etc.) instead of graphic diagram... is it real or made just for marketing?)there are several videos about this device but nobody showed this feature, just only changing of types of diagram, thanks in advance!
The newer units may have that information as they base that on the barometer. My unit does not do "forecast" as that was the first / initial release of this station.
I live in New Zealand. Can this unit be configured to the southern hemisphere?
Thx.
+Chris Lakomy I can't see a reason why it would be an issue. What different configuration would it need for New Zealand ?
+Chris Lakomy Yes it can, categorically. There is a section in the instruction book about S-hemi setups.
Hi and thanks for the review. I am just wondering how you are getting on with the unit. I am considering upgrading my WH3081 but I don't think I am ready to spend a bunch of money on a Davis. I guess you've had this unit for about 6 or so months now so you will be getting a fair idea of reliability. The WH3081 has a known issue with its solar radiation and mine is no exception. After a few months it just went ballistic and died. I would really like to know if you have had any issues with the ws-1000. BTW can we have a link to your Wunderground?
Hi Arjan. No issues so far. Happy to report that I did not have to go up the poll even once to reset or do any maintenance. As long as it will work as it has been so far, I will be a happy camper! Will have to see how it will handle the full winter season (since I got it at the end of January we did not get too much snow since). In a few rare very hot morning days when there is no wind and the sun is just at the right angle with the solar radiation shield, I noticed that it may read a slightly higher temp than some of the surrounding stations (I only observed it a few times). Weather Station ID is KCOAUROR47 . If anyone wants to see it in person, please make an appointment first. :)
Ha thanks. Considering I live on the other side of the world I am not likely to visit in person. Thanks for the update though my station id is

Great Review! I belong to a club that is looking into setting up a weather station at one of the nearby state parks. Due to lack of power we'd need a totally solar powered installation and a hotspot to access the Internet via a cell phone data plan. While I think this device would be just the ticket, I've been unable to assess the total amount of data this device would send over the period of a month. I'm guessing less than a GB, but that is just a guess. Do you have any feel for this?
Thanks,
Larry
Larry Fagan I honestly don't know but would imagine it would be very minimal. Would be just a few kilobytes per "call" to the API. Wind, temperature, humidity, Solar Rad. is all small text data. I'd guess less than 100MB / month total but I have no data to back that up. I would recommend to contact the ambient team to have them provide that info.
ColoradoRMN +Larry Fagan

I'm thinking about buying one of these. In your opinion, is it reliable ? Are the sensors relatively accurate ? The fact that the outdoor temperature sensor doesn't have a fan gives inaccurate readings or not so much ?
Mine is still doing well and I only had to take it down once, voluntarily, to clean it just in case there was any dirt/debris. I bought spare rechargeable replacement batteries but did not have to replace them yet. It is fairly accurate as far as I can tell; but I am not using it for scientific research.
Do you find you get lockups and freezes? have so far had the console lock up twice and had to unplug it and restart it twice.
Mine rakes a lot longer to update on weather underground than yours. takes around 30 secs to update on underground weather and puzzles me as yours updates quick.
Mine is the later model the ws1001 model.
+Dennis Rogers In WeatherU, go to your "Member Settings" and in the "Page Preferences" make sure that you check box is checked for "Enable Rapid Fire" . If it is checked and you are not seeing it, you may want to contact WU to see if they have additional info. Hope this helps!
The Old WeatherStation you had the only difference is you have to keep your computer on 24 hours a day is that it because I have to have my computer on all the time and what would the price be for that or the model do you got the model thanks
+MD DEMAR (MD007) This unit is WiFi and has WiFi upload to the weather underground as well. As for prices, not sure. Check our their site and compare.
Should it be mounted in direct sunlight in order to provide power to the solar panel?
Yes, the solar panel on the unit is south facing. You also want it to be in the open area in order to have the rain gauge collect & measure the water when it rains.
When the Display was booting up I saw a Mouse Pointer, I wonder if it runs on Linux?
but sure, but that is possible.
Hi,
Was thinking of buying the UK model of this weather station and was wondering if you have had any reliability problems as your station is now 1 year old?
Hi ***** . Mine is still doing well and is at its 1 year and 1 month mark. Last week after several days of snow, clouds, and little to-no sun I did have the station not report data for a several hours (over night). Not sure the exact cause as I was not home. When the sun came back it was back-up and running (and still is). I am guessing that the rechargeable batteries may be wearing out so I have new ones ordered and on the way to have just in case.
ColoradoRMN Thanks for the feed back.
It is now February 2016. Has your unit held up over time? Do you find it to give accurate readings. I'm researching weather stations and this unit looks interesting, but I am wondering if the unit is accurate. Thank you.
+Steven Stiffler Still doing great! No issues with accuracy and it is within range of other stations in the area. In a weird freeze/thaw cycle a couple of times the wind gauge did freeze but that was just a couple of times. Still doing well and it is on original batteries.
the weather station you can choose the italian language? thanks
Thank you for the video. So how frequently does the wind speed update? From your video it appears it updates every 10 seconds.
HI Curt. The manual states the update period is 16 seconds.
And indoor updates every (16x4) 64 seconds (temp/humidity/pressure).
Thanks for the review, but I did have a question for you. It looks like the video is a year and a half old, how has the weather station held up over time and are you still using it? I'm considering getting the identical model for myself.
+Scott R Hi Scott, it is still doing well! Did not need to do any
maintenance on it yet. A few times the wind gauge did freeze when we had crazy freeze/thaw weather so I had to get a broom to "kick and release" it from frozen state. I got some new batteries for it as I thought the old ones may be going out soon, but did not replace them yet as the unit keeps working fine.
+ColoradoRMN Great! Thank you so much for getting back to me. :)
+ColoradoRMN THANK you for the follow up/update. Losing my mind deciding on which to buy for my first "serious" station:-)
+Mike Cartwright Decisions, decisions! :) Good luck !
+Hassan mohiudin +Hassan mohiudin How close is your station to the NW station? Temperatures can even range/vary even within a neighborhood. Check your station against other stations in your area. If you are constantly +/- 2 then adjust. While I never had to do it, In settings there is a calibration screen when you can make the need adjustment.
Hi, I have a problem, my external temp sensor gains excessive temperature when it rains????
That's strange. Is the unit still under warranty? If so, reach out to the manufacturer. Hopefully they can address or fix this issue.
Hi I have this weather station and I've noticed that the wind speed and direction seems a bit erratic and will jump around quite often. I was wondering, is there any setting where you can get it to average the wind data over say the last 5 mins to give a more stable reading? I have looked at all the settings and cannot see anything myself. Other than that it's a great unit.
I do not believe so. I do know it does averages the Temps. I guess that is the reality of weather, sometimes it is volatile. :) .
lee wakefield
I do agree with you - wind data should be avaraged. And I have no idea why they make an avarage of the outside temperature - terrible feature
aqu32 In a product manual and in a UA-cam video from Jaycar (they sell a the non-Wifi 39MB model in Australia- as there are 4 variants of this station), they both show the screen display of the temp reading graph with temp spikes of 0.7C-0.9C. However, on Wunderground, your station readings are very smooth, which is great. Do they average out the temps to cover any spikes before sending out the data? How do you know it averages the temps? It takes outdoor readings every 16 seconds and transmits that data every 16 seconds correct?
Hi I just bought this station. It worked for 5 hours then the external sensor has not worked and does not transmit the data to the console. I did not understand how to reset everything and try to run it, can you explain it to me?
Thank you
I did not have to do it on mine but according it to the Ambient Weather manual, here is the reset info:
In the event the sensor array is not transmitting, reset the sensor array. With an open ended paperclip, press and hold the RESET BUTTON for three seconds to completely discharge the voltage. Take out the batteries and wait one minute, while covering the solar panel to drain the voltage. Put batteries back in and resynchronize with console by powering down and up the console with the sensor array about 10 feet away. www.ambientweather.com/manuals.html
Does it retrieve weather info from internet? Download current weather and forecast from internet?
It will s how you your data from your weather station on the scree and transmit that information TO Weather Underground. It does not download weather forecast.
About how many times have you had to clean out the rain gauge so far?
Just one time few weeks ago and not because it needed it but simply because I wanted to make sure it was all good, clean, and ready for winter.
Just purchased the Jaycar version, the XC 0369. Setup was fairly easy since no instruction book was supplied. Thanks for the info in the video re the round sticker on the remote unit. Nothing about it in the on line instructions. Does anyone know what the mini usb port is for on the XC 0369 and what software if any applies?
ockerview4007 Wow. I did not know about Jaycar. Are they a re-branded distributor of Ambient Weather? The WS-1000 has the Power port and the MicroSD card slot. No Micro USB. Mine is WiFi but XC0369 does not appear to be. Perhaps your micro USB port is for the ability to be linked to computer running weather software for viewing and/or broadcast? Something like EasyWeather ?
ColoradoRMN The XC0369 seems to be just that, a rebranded Ambient Weather except no WiFi. Thanks for the tip re EasyWeather, I will check it out later.
ockerview4007 There is also another program called cumulus (by sandaysoft) perhaps give it a try as well.
ockerview4007 I bought a weather station from eBay last year, and until now, the unit still works great. I provides accurate, real-time weather data of indoor and outdoor temperature, and humidity in our area. And the best part is it just cost me US $21.60 only. You guys check it. zola54 According to the manual, it says that it supports: "English, Chinese,. Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish" .
Thks ColoradoRMN :)
The rain gauge is very unreliable. My previous weather station was the same due
to tiny spiders nesting inside.
Does anyone know how to fix it without pulling it apart?
Could you take it offline and run so water though it to clean it?
That's what I did and its working now.
Having a thermo sensor inside the console would not be a great thing - data would be falsified by the internal heating
aqu32 I bought a weather station from eBay last year, and until now, the unit still works great. I provides accurate, real-time weather data of indoor and outdoor temperature, and humidity in our area. And the best part is it just cost me US $21.60 only. You guys check it. I swear the quality is very reliable.

Can you change the URL in weather server screen in setup?
You cannot, it is set to WeatherUnderground. I am not sure if the updated 1001 version is any different.
Hi +ColoradoRMN, does the charger support 220 volts because I want to buy it and bring it back to my country!
Shane Ruangdet Shane, you may want to check with Ambient Weather. I do see that the unit runs on 5V, 1.5A but you will need a different transformer/adapter for the 220v that can convert to 5V, 1.5A.
Thank you! I asked them and they said the weather station adapter supports 220 volts.
ColoradoRMN How big is the box?
Shane Ruangdet Shane, my box is: 17.25" x 14.25" x 7.25" (.25" = 1/4").
ColoradoRMN Thanks again! :) I bought one from Amazon and they will deliver it to my hotel before 8 PM
Is it possible to convert mm instead of an inch ?
+Storm Riyadh Yes, in the Setup screen. See the video around minute 12:00 and there is "Rainfall Units" category It can be set to mm or inches.
+ColoradoRMN Thank you
It has a Windows in it? 😐
Jonathan Kurniawan wot
this video is very useful
Glad you found this helpful! Thank you for feedback.
This uses WiFi?
Yes, it is WiFi, hence the name 'Ambient Weather WS-1000 WiFi Solar Powered Wireless Weather Station' ;)
ColoradoRMN
lol duhhhhhhh
Its not WiFi. It uses 433 Mhz.
The WiFi part is when it connects to the internet and sends data to Weather Underground ... without wires.... I.e. WiFi. :)
Елы! Такой экран, такие возможности и херню какую-то унылую сделали...
The more I look into these weather stations, the more unimpressed I am. They must hire the worst software engineers around. Why can't you set this up with a web page? Adding an embedded linux system with a web server isn't going to cost that much, especially considering how much the unit costs already. The Davis system is really pathetic, with ridiculous pricing like $300 for software that does very little. They all look like some kind of crap from the 90's or even the 80's.
Obviously, you're a bit confused and have your priority's mixed up. Sure bells, and whistles and eye candy like a Web interface would be nice.
But to be honest the software in the Vantage series is perfectly functional, it's simple and fast and doesn't need to be rebooted every other day or have firmware upgrades 4 times a year to correct software and security issues. It may be simple but it works flawlessly 24-7-365 a year for decades. You see in science everything is a trade off so you must prioritize. Sure eye candy is nice but reliability and efficiency are much more important. Sure they could add a web server interface for setup but that would require a much more powerful processor and a more powerful processor means more heat more power consumption and less reliability.
As for reliability, My vantage pro2 will run 6 to 9 months on 3 C cells. I even have an original Vantage Pro that's been running for at least 25 years, yeah It was expensive but after 25 years of flawless service, I feel I got my money's worth.
Nice bit of rationalizing there [choice support bias]. Adding a web server is trivial and doesn't require all that much of a processor, it's not running a web site. A large percentage of the web is run on free software. As to 'eye candy', some of what you call eye candy is can be extremely functional. I could understand if most of the expense was in the sensor arrays, but it's not. The software is utterly basic, the development of the majority of it done years ago, spread across many product lines, their pricing is just unjustified. Look at what they charge for one of their 'digital display units', $295. You can get a good sized, HD smart TV for that, and it will work flawlessly for years too. If the thing was ruggedized for a boat, something like that, maybe I could understand, but you can look at it and tell there just ain't enough there to come anywhere near that price.
I've already ordered the stuff I need to build my own, after I have it going for a while, I might look into the buying some of the Davis sensors, I don't doubt they got that part down very well. Whatever you paid 25 years ago may have been justified, but now, their pricing structure/business model needs some updating
