- "Saving Ferris" is a documentary about the Chicago experience of the classic film, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." For the documentary, Noah Graff visited almost every Chicagoland location in the film to find out where and what the places actually are and how they have changed in 30 years since the film was shot. Some of the scenes in the documentary include going to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, driving a Ferrari out of Cameron Frye's garage, and singing "Twist and Shout" on a float in the Von Steuben Day Parade.
In Part 7 Noah Graff visits the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He explains Cameron's comical Arb (arbitrage) hand signals in the movie.
2:21 --- "What Cameron is doing in this scene is known as 'Arb'."
Actually, what Cameron is doing in the scene is known as 'Three Stooges Hand Gestures', but I'll let it go.
Ferris Bueller has a great scene where Cameron is mimicking the hand signals while watching the pit in Chicago.
I was at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on a field trip back in high school! And right after that trip when I was watching this movie with my family, during this part, I pointed out that I was at that place on the trip!
i love your work
Thanks so much Melissa! That means a lot!
When they are at the mervhant exchange is the funniest part this movie.
00:44 That's my friend Mike Walsh in the red jacket. RIP. Limit up!
I started renting an office in the Chicago Board of Trade and the trading floor is completely abandoned, as is 90% of the rest of the building.
So how is it proven that someone brought stocks or is it all written down and its your word against theres?
Everyone carries little cards that both the buyer and the seller fill out. Then, the guys standing on the outside of the pit aka the clerks are passed the slips and they enter the orders into a database.
