Blake's a proper roboteer, didn't matter if he won or lost, he won hearts of the people lol. And here's hoping NHRL recognises WCCRL as a brother in robot combat arms.
A 1 pound robot with a titanium chassis is insane. it would be really cool to see vector with a hub motor. hub motors tend to be very reliable as long as your magnets are properly epoxied, since they can't undergo probably the main failure mode of weapon drive that is the belt breaking or slipping of.
Thank you! Yeah Vectors frame is pretty sturdy. It would be interesting to try and see how I could integrate a hub motor into vector. I know @JustCuzRobotics just came out with a new hub motor for antweights recently. I might try something with that, but it would take some time to figure out how to integrate vectors giant weapon to work, but its definitely something Ill look into!
I know right! WCCRL is a great place for the sport going forward, and they say their facility is always changing to fit the needs of the builders which is super awesome!
These videos just keep getting better and better! Vector is also becoming a force to be reckoned with but he wouldn't be able to do it without you driving him!

Either a build video on Vector or How to build a battlebot!
It's awesome to see another video 🔥 I think its really cool how Vector keeps adapting after each event and improves its features dependant on prior aspects that failed in the past
I have an idea that I don’t know about, but seeing that you said you have about 50 grams of weight left, what if you put in a really small weapon about the third of the size and put a nylon support that could fit in the middle? I do worry that if it’s uncentered you may flip over from your gyration, and there could be possibly structural flaws. If you have a lot of weight left over, maybe you can make it metal? I’m not sure, but if this idea sounds good, you could experiment with it. Overall, I think Vector is pretty solid design, there will need to be little refinements here and there, but the bots looks really impressive. I’m excited to see more of it in the future, especially in the form of your entertaining videos!
Yeah I really want to try to see if it would be possible to still have some armor in the front of Vector when fighting. Ideally have a big titanium wedge when fighting against horizontals. But I have had a few people mention the idea so it might be something I wanna look into! Thanks for the recommendation!
Vector is becoming scarier than ever! You had that win if only the power switch didn’t disconnect but congrats on 2nd. Definitely need a steel or titanium weapon axle though.
Thank you! Yeah its ok though, I didn't mind second, I'm just happy I found some things to fix on vector. And I am trying out a solid axle made of aluminum. I wanna see if its more viable then steel or titanium or if it just explodes lol
Thank you! I use nylon for the main electronic compartment of vector, all the electronics are housed in essentially a box in the center of the robot with a lid also made of nylon. This way the electronics are protected from debris and such. Easy nylon is great to use! Just make sure your printer can print it properly at the correct temps and speeds. I learned that the hard way lol
On the 1MM TI wedge: you need some bends/curves so horizontals can’t hit the edges on the sides. Thankfully it was wide enough and you were a good enough driver for it to not be a problem. EDIT: Also consider upping to a 450mah battery. My 350mah battery I use only lasts 2 minutes with me running a weapon that is 1/2 the weight of yours (although I always run it at 100%). Also aluminum shafts that are a part of the machines side rails? That seems like it leads to much larger bearings, have you considered replacing them with steel screws or shoulder bolts? It would also probably save money as you could Laser/Waterjet the side panels then add the structures on after, instead of CNC’ing them.
Yeah I realized that after I got the part but it still works good enough for the setup so far. And I am trying to see if I can use a larger battery, only main problem I'm facing is weight. Trying to solve that with the next version of the rails with vector! And I also have tried to solve the shafts breaking off problem, It goes against every fiber of my being but I'll be running a solid shaft that connects from one rail to the other like a typical eggbeater style bot would. It adds structural strength to the bot and also makes it a lot harder to break the main shaft. Hopefully I can test it out soon once the parts arrive.
awesome bot and awesome run, loving the sportmanship too! question: what size is that arena floor? i will be hosting some 1lb fight and i was wondering how big thje arena should be, this one looks tight but works good in the end so i was curios
Its 4 x 4 x 2 feet large. Though it varies from arena to arena. Personally I like the larger 8 x 8 x 4 arenas that double for 3lb but its up to you on what you would like to build!
Id love too but as of right now costs for flights are difficult to do, I would do a lot more fights in other states if I had the money. But as of right now I'm trying to save for NHRL in the distant future when I make a 3 pound bot. But thanks for letting me know!
@@TeamVector441 you pay the monthly price or is there some free/student version that I’m unaware of (I use fusion 360 as my cad of choice bc of the student version haha)
Surprisingly I've never lost vectors front wheels during a fight, except when going against horizontals. The weapons so wide and has so much reach, if you try to aim for the wheels you end up hitting the weapon which is why its so wide :)
If your ft switch died, you likely don’t need to replace it, you just need to tighten it down more (be careful of it stripping). You also could replace it with a link, but those can sometimes fall out.
Yeah I am going to replace it with a LYNX one as soon as I get it. Had problems with the previous switch in the past so its good to switch it up lol Thanks for the recommendation!
I use a Radiolink RC4GS V3, rc car style radio with a micro receiver. Works well for me cause I came from driving RC drift cars. Hopefully that helps!😀
Would it be advantageous to cut your weapon in half and have a shaft that connects to the main weapon in the middle with the two halves to the weapon on either side for extra support in the center? The arm would connect to the front of the robot and probably touch / slide of the floor to send impact energy downward. And then have a shaft going through the center of the center mount that drives both sides of the weapon halves. This would help improve lateral stability, impact reinforcement and if you built it right, it will help send impact energy away from venerable weak points. If you can't visualize what I mean here's my idea badly written in text form: - is the weapon shaft and each dash is a mount point = is the actual weapon - = = - = = -
Kinda like twin beasts(kinda), its a interesting concept! I wonder if it would be possible on vector? The only thing is weight in this class and overall complexity. I found out that when I over complicated Vector he ended up with a ton of small failure points that ended up causing serious problems down the line. It certainly is possible to do though! I would have to see if it would be viable for the weight class, thanks for you input! :)
