I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Mars in a little bar outside Seattle called "The Place" we hung out for a couple ours and I gave Mars a ride to the hotel. Just the nicest guy you could ever want to meet. So sad he is gone. RIP man, and thank you!
I dunno, I have such strong feelings about Pat Traverse and his contribution to 70s and 80s rock. Seeing them here, I kinda feel sad after seeing them with Pat Thrall and Tommy Aldridge (They opened for Rush at the Cow Palace in S.F. Talk about a mismatch!!). I feel the 'Putting it Straight' album is his finest work. 'Making Magic' is a very close second. Of course, you had to be dead in the late 70s early 80s if you didn't hear the live album and Boom Boom. I know he had drug problems and I heard he was hard to work with but He was incredibly talented and a number of his tunes stand up today as they did when they came out. 'Gettin Better' is a tough song to play and get the groove right, that's just one example. Anyways, He totally deserves to be in the Hall of fame for his work. Hopefully before he's gone
Mars blew my mind when I heard him on the first PT record. I was listening to a lot of JzRck fusion back then. Stanley, Jaco, Bunny, et. al...And out of left field came Mars. Thanks Mars.
I just found out today that Mars Cowling passed away last month (March 20th) -- sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of seeing him with the PT Band live back in 1980 and hearing his great bass playing on several PT albums. RIP, Mars.
Oh , fucking A .Do you know how rare this video is .To see him play with Peter Cowling that many years after he was in the PTB .Has to be almost impossible to come across .This was some kind of memorial event .So likely in Florida where they both lived . Rare opportunity .
Only one person needs to video this performance and share it but all the clueless ones in the front are recording and missing out on an excellent performance. People aren't in the moment anymore. What a tragedy.
